Suhara Villow
The Crimson Flower
OUT-OF-CHARACTER INFORMATION
Birthed from the wider collapse of Alum Intergalactic Systems following the Economic Crash of 600 ABY, Chantemer Astral Horizons has enjoyed 300 years of nearly unparalleled quality building some of the finest ships. Its focus has always been on economies of scale despite being largely limited to the Chantemer system, producing affordable but practical ships though often trying their hand at high-performance and luxury vessels. When it came to the acquisition of smaller firms, Astral Horizons avoided the common tactic of layoffs and sales of acquired assets instead keeping skilled staff and trying to integrate them into the wider corporation. This provided constant generational knowledge which laid the foundation for their explosive and exponential growth in the early 700s until they became practically a monopoly. As a result of this and their subsuming the large share of the Void Fleet's defense contracts, in 750 ABY they were nationalized under the crown. Business was at an all-time high as the mining industry was booming and offices in Coruscant opened to accept orders from both private and public individuals in the Galactic Alliance.
However, following the death of the Montverre Dynasty's matriarch and the following coup by General Olan Poutine, a dark specter was cast over the company's future. Its nationalization was reversed in parts being sold off for privatization, depriving the people of Chantemer a sovereign wealth fund and fracturing the worker base. Astral Horizons and the many worker unions that operated under its umbrella throughout its lifetime had a love-hate relationship but in recent years unions have seen an uptick in negotiating power. However, under Olan Poutine, the Unions were seen as a potential vector of opposition and were purged. Much of the original corporate leadership that refused to align with the new Fascist was either forced to resign or encountered "accidents," gutting the inter-generational skillmanship Astral Horizons had been famed for. In their place were replaced with cronies loyal to Poutine who would often give the dictator a slice of the pie.
It took until 832 ABY with the development of the revolutionary Azur-Class that Astral Horizons' reputation returned, even if a shadow of its former glory. Workers no longer have the rights they used to be, forced to work increasingly longer hours for a decreasingly low amount of pay. Any strikes or discussion of wages are cracked down hard.
In the wake of Suhara Villow's fiery speech calling for rebellion and the defection of the Crimson Flower Task Force, many engineers and test pilots did the same to join Suhara's fleet in exile. Their expertise provides valuable maintenance and upgrade capabilities for the ships evicted from their home dockyards.
