CHAOS Acronyms
Ya know, for the guy who once wrote a guide named "RP is not an MMO"? I sure use a lot of acronyms these days. PvP, FvF, META, RPJ, GM, etc. And maybe it's time I mentioned something about their accuracy. Umm. ...It's not always good.
PvP
PvP was an acronym for Player Versus Player I began using a long time ago. It seemed more accurate back then too. Two characters come together to smash each other's face in. You dance, smash, shoot, stab, and then call it day. It was contentious by nature. Though supposedly only in an IC sort of way. OOC, you didn't actually have a conflict. But it was always phrased that way. Especially when you call it Player Versus Player, rather than Character Versus Character.
So, moving forward. I actually still like the term PvP. Now? Is it completely accurate to the way duels and conflicts are handled on this website today? No. Not really. The amount of cooperation needed for a modern duel is pretty amazing actually. I should probably call it Player With Player instead. But PwP sounds dumb and would take forever to acclimate to the gamer genre and the millions of people who already understand the term PvP.
Meh. I have no easy replacement for it yet.
FvF
This was one that I started using when the site was young and conflicts were yet to grasp a rhythm or build a historical precedence. Dominions and Invasions were in their infancy and I still believe that more ideas for the Map Game were underway. The word Skirmish had yet to be invented but I always imagined there would be many more expressions for getting your Faction PewPewPew on. As such, FvF was sort of a bridge built under the HUB of PvP. Something I now like to call 'The Map Game'. Factions fighting Factions. Influence, Territory, Dominions, and Invasions, are some of it's most common expressions. With Raids, Rebellions, and Skirmishes coming in close second.
I actually still like this term despite it's infrequent use. It gives me hope that the way we play the Map will continue to change and shift according to the needs of the community. And I don't mean just moderation's to the already existing rules. I mean new ideas and new interpretations that will eventually arise too.
I should probably use this more.
RPJ
I really love this one actually. Mostly because of the last word, Judge. It's more stern than say Referee but still less pompous than Officer or Magistrate. Lol. Can you hear that now? RPM. Roleplay Magistrate? ...Oh gosh. That's horrible. Talk about going straight to your head. Just try getting an impartial decision from somebody named Magistrate. Haha. It's almost as bad as Roleplay Moff. Go Empire!
I enjoy using RPJ. It's not to hard for the newbies to pick up either.
___
There are certainly more I could talk about but I think that's enough musing for now. How has your experience been on the website using acronyms? Still wondering was to call an Imperial Remnant's Imperial Knight? (IRIK) Or thinking about submitting another Low Altitude Assault Transport? (LAAT) Or maybe you've never actually given yourself to figuring out the words behind an AT-AT before. (All Terrian Armored Transport)
What are some of your favorite, and least favorite, acronyms?
