Public Character of the Month Nominations - December Edition

Hey!

How the year has flown by! Already December and already time for Character of the Month nominations!

The rules are as following:

  • Nominate a character that is not of your writing that has impressed you in the last month.
  • Give the reasons why.
    • Please include thread links for others to see why you love the character so much.
  • You may nominate someone that has already been nominated, they will be listed once in the voting stage and the reasons combined into one.
  • This is for In Character stuff.
  • During the nomination step, you must ask the winner a question for your nomination to count. Yes, that means in this thread, along with the nomination also put a question for the eventual winner, ya scamp.
  • During the voting, please limit yourselves to one vote.
  • Character must have been active in the last month to qualify, would be great if you would keep it to the last months exploits too.
  • Characters can only win once.
  • Please do not nominate Staff.
  • One week to nominate. Approximately.

* Character may not reign as Character of the Month for an exact month. You will live.

Let's see who will join the ranks of Lodd Grimmin Lodd Grimmin , Marlon Sularen Marlon Sularen , Darth Malum of House Marr Darth Malum of House Marr , Corazona von Ascania Corazona von Ascania , Jenn Kryze Jenn Kryze , Darth Caedes Darth Caedes , Roman Vossari Roman Vossari and Naamino Zuukamano Naamino Zuukamano for the final time this year!

It's so hard to just pick one character when there are so many that I have enjoyed writing with.

But, I am once again going to nominate Lossa Aureus Lossa Aureus

Briana wouldn't be who she is without her pink menace of a cousin and she's been so much fun to read and interact with.

Threads/Blog: New Beginnings, Calling All Daredevils, Bright Tide Rising, A Spark is A Little Thing

Question: What goes into your posting/writing method and what do you do to re-ignite the muse?

Agreed with what's stated above. Lots of fantastic options.

For this past month though, I'd like to nominate: Lysander von Ascania Lysander von Ascania

This angsty teen character has been so much fun to read, most threads lead to actual laugh out loud moments. While the fun angsty stuff is great, he provides a nice genuine feel to the character in lighter moments. When browsing the board, I actively seek out Lysander posts to read, they are fantastic. Excited to see how this character grows further as a Jedi and teenager.

Threads: New Beginnings | Bright Tide Rising | The River's Gift | Broken Gate

Question: Do you draw inspiration from any characters outside of the Chaos universe for your own OC's?

Liin Terallo Liin Terallo is a great character. A different take on a corpo and one bound by duty and love for her planet yet also trying to grow as a person. OOC wise the writer is a fellow NFU as a main which is a rarity - I hope she sticks with it.

Threads : X , X , X , X

Question : Do you have any big story arcs planned in 2025?

Also nominating Liin Terallo Liin Terallo

This writer is really a powerhouse presence who not only dives in and helps people with their stories, but drives a lot of stories and ideas that invite different and new writers to join in. And they highlight the role that NFUs can have in stories, something that tends to get drowned out by how Jedi/Sith heavy the board demographics are.

In addition to the threads listed by Judah Dashiell Judah Dashiell (above) I would add Business Edge and more recently Solstice of Mirage Fields to the receipts for December.

Question: What's your favorite Star Wars movie (and why is it the Holiday Special?)

I am once again... Oh damn someone took that meme already.

But truly, just like my hard headed zabrak I cannot rest until Micah tol Powl Micah tol Powl receives the accolades he deserves.
This badawan kitty cat hit the scene more than a few months ago at this point (time is weird, don't @ me) and has breathed so much life into not only the Sith Academy story line but The Sith Order in general. Not only is their writing top notch quality but they are always kind, helpful, and supportive about the creative endeavors of others.

Threads/ Examples:
  • Even something as simple as his bio is loaded with wit and so many linked examples which immediately help you get to know his character.
  • Micah's characterization in general is just such a treat- excellent exploration of non-human species body language/psyche, very believable tone for a character of his age, and despite their near constant witticism in writing him, Micah also has a range of emotions that have already made him come alive so fully in my minds eye. See this for cathar cuteness, more cathar body language, and an incredible intro post that I think sums up most of the praises I've been singing here. "Cat in the Library" also belongs here among examples of writing a young non-human character so believably.
  • Micah showed up in style at the school dance with an opening post that was both heartfelt and charmingly hilarious.
  • Last example but certainly not least WOWzers just take a gander at this cat in action.
Thank you for reading this elaborate and rambling love letter to such a wonderful character. I'll also just add for your consideration that Micah's writer almost always links music with their posts which I highly recommend listening to. They also make images and such on occasion and are constantly encouraging others to make cool stuff as well. Just take a look at this nifty graphic they whipped up for our Sithy students

Question for the winner: What role, if any, does music play in your writing process? Example: are you the type to create character playlists, can you write with music on that has lyrics or do you need instrumental, etc? That kinda thing.

I’m nominating Judah Dashiell Judah Dashiell .

NFU are kind of rare. I like reading their posts with him, their storyline and threads is really chill which makes for an enjoyable and refreshing read. Also it’s nice to see the neutral stance between sith and jedi as he conducts his business. Also like seeing the family they’ve made and its dynamics like in this thread.

They’re also a very reliable writer and fun to talk to.

If you’re character was in a different major faction, which would it be and why?

I nominate Kaila Irons Kaila Irons

Her character is ever evolving and growing, willing to make mistakes and have missteps learn from them to continue to grow. She isn't afraid to try something, often it works out well for her in the end. She is always open to meeting new people and having different experiences. OOC the writer knows who her character is, and her writing style is up there with some of the best on the board. She knows how to right strong emotion that makes you feel for her character even when she makes a mistake or is doing something evil.

You read her stuff and you just want to read more and push the story on to see where it leads. I don't know if she knows it but she plays a sith really well, ambitious and gaining power sometimes with out knowing her actions will lead to that conclusion. She has risen so far in the ranks of SO and I put her as one of their top writers. The best part is I get to come along for the ride and have my fun as well. To me she is a great example of how to write a sith rising in power through the ranks.

Question: What is your characters ideal retirement plan, what I mean is where do you see them at the end of their run?

Throwing my nomination towards Briana Sal-Soren Briana Sal-Soren whose come back with a vengeance in terms of great storytelling and moving the character forward! Also, super excited to do more with Lily and Bri in the near future!

Threads to check out:

From War to Forever - Absolutely heart wrenching!
Balancing the Scales - Heart warming to see Briana and Brandyn reconnecting!
Honorable Purpose - Discussion on taking up the role of leading the Order of Shiraya which is an exciting new direction!
It was great running into you - Interesting to see someone you were close with but having totally different ideologies!

I of course would love to vote for all those involved in the stories but Briana is a standout character in my mind! And not even mentioning the amazing work with the faction threads either!

Question: If you were in a martial arts movie what would your fighting style be?

I would like to nominate Ala Quin Ala Quin .

Our characters fittingly met in the zinder event last month which i initially signed up for as a joke and I am so glad I did! Ala is everything that a Jedi should be, but in my experience, tends to forget. The character is selfless and caring almost to a fault, she has shown great trust even against her instincts in order to give even sith a second chance, and always seems to know when to do the right thing, even when that doesn't involve swinging a lightsaber at evil, instead putting in the time and effort like the OG jedi will all knew and loved as kids. However like any good Jedi story, Ala's includes entertaining temptation and brushes with the dark side that one must resist or fall into. And as recent threads have shown me, I am so happy to have been exactly that and play a part this character's return to the board <3

Question for the winner: Has your character ever betrayed their ideals or considered doing so?
