Character Power Restrictions

What are the thoughts on having it mandatory ( or at least a section in the character creation template) to list a character's force powers in their character profile creation and updating it through training? That way there is some sort of list of a character's powers to hold the writer accountable so they don't whip out a new force power every other post.

Personally, that's a bit too indepth. So long as they aren't whipping out super rare abilities all in a row like, say, Force Light then Force Storm and then Force Cloak, who really cares? If we required people to learn abilities IC, post them in their bio, and THEN be able to use them, well, then we'd have to start approving bios, which is something we want to avoid.

It'd be kinda difficult and tedious to put each Force power known to the galaxy on a simple character creation sheet. Even more so, this will push away newer members who are unfamiliar with the SW universe and will most likely spend 3 days looking up and researching each and every power that they don't recognize. I'm all for this being optional, which would be amazing with a nice template, but I wouldn't make it mandatory.

@[member="Dranok Lussk"], they don't need to put in every force power though; merely the ones that they've learned. Bios wouldn't have to be approved, either -- we run on the honor system now, and there's no reason to change that. But in PvP situations, people might want a little clarity as to how the person they're facing is able to do what they're doing. No, you wouldn't know IC, but OOC you'd know that Darth Evil or Jedi Master Good can't use alchemy or electric judgement because the evidence is in their bio.

It isn't hard to do, listing force abilities. I've done it for all my characters. And there really aren't that many force powers. A great number of them are just variations of telekinesis. Others can be 'rounded down' into one central ability. Some are the same skills with different names.

I would say no. Because there might be people as me (only not as knowing) that use force lighting a lot. And actually one time I did something that I had to go back and change because I did something that was out of my skill range.

What you've said, @[member="Vendir"], is the issue @[member="Mikhail Shorn"] is trying to avoid. As a padawan, there's no way you should be able to wield Force lightning, especially without considerable training in the art. If what Mikhail is proposing was implemented, you would have to put evidence in your bio highlighting that you've learned the skill, and that you can legally use it. Using a power you don't know or can't know violates the honor system this forum operates on, and damages the integrity of the site. Mikhail's idea won't eliminate such occurrences, but it will make them easier to identify and rectify.

Blessed are the peacemakers
I find the best judge of character powers comes from the RPJ and the other roleplayers themselves. Or just don't roleplay with a select few that you don't feel play fairly.

Shabangarang, power restrictions solved.

I think it should be mandatory to list them and optionally explain where they came from, not so much being forced to actually have to play out learning them - and I only say that because of the nature of this site in particular, where there is entrusted a ton of leeway for things like this.

I tend to do this anyway, of my own accord - purely because it helps me keep tabs on what my character knows - and since every power they know are their innate/thread-learnt there's no confusion for me with it. Easier to do it from the beginning - not easy when you've had a character for <10> years

I list all of my character's known force powers and their level for my characters. I wouldn't require others to do the same, but I'll agree that it does make it easier if you know what you're going up against.

Character Profiles are your happy Sandbox as a Writer. A personal dominion. Your character's castle. Four walls of finally-fantastic formatting. A, safe and sacred place of consistency amidst all the wonky threads out there.

The less micro-management, the better. :D

Force push, mind trick, and force jump.

You don't need any other force abilities.
It's all a way to over complicate things when people use crazy lightingmissileattackofflyingpigs...
