Intent: To create an elite, non melee, unit for the Legion Yun'Do. And to put those filthy Chazrach slaves to good use.
Development Thread: If needed
Manufacturer: Legion Yun'Do shapers of Selvaris
Model: Mern Kane (MK) - 1, Chazrach Sentinel
Affiliation: Legion Yun'Do, One Sith
Modularity: No
Production: Minor production
Material: Chazrach slave (willing or unwilling, it matters not), Blast Bugs, Blast Bug Launcher, Yorik Coral, Mqaaq'it
Classification: Class four battle bio-droid
Weight: 100 Kg
Height: 2.5 meters
Movement: Bipedal
Armaments: Thud bug launcher modified to propel blast bugs (relatively similar in performance at this point). The launcher restores ammo slowly, but holds roughly 250 blast buts within it at one time and continually propagates. The rate of fire maxes out around 35 bugs per minute.
Misc. Equipment: Blast bug hive on the shoulder, Mqaaq'it
Description: Chazrach slaves are dirty and useless and unmotivated. The Shapers of the Legion Yun'Do want to change that so they sat down and did some brain storming. Put armor on them, they said. Nah, we can't give them vonduun, they are too worthless for such things! Yes yes, but what other armor do we have? What about the Yorik Coral?
So began the first large scale production, by Yuuzhan Vong on Selvaris, to create the first known biological variant of a droid. They began with the cowardice and overall lack of loyalty in the Chazrach, shaving away such messy nuisance for the finer and more respectable characteristics. Bravery, loyalty to the Legion, loyalty to the Yun'O, hatred towards the enemies of the One Sith and the Legion Yun'Do. Once the indoctrination is complete, so begins the massing of Yorik Coral upon the body. It is a painful and cumbersome thing, decreasing maneuverability, but producing a substantially more hardy specimen of warfare. This armor, so to speak, came with several pieces of armament that allowed for more capable utilization.
First and foremost, a thud bug launcher, modified to fire blast bugs, was grafted to the suit via biological tubs coated in pliable chitin. The weapon can be used as a projectile or through rotation, the item can be used for bludgeoning. The weapon is linked to a hive, stored beneath the coral in the shoulder, composed out of hardened wax expelled by the Blast Bugs. In these specific circumstances, the blast bugs propagate within the armor, refilling ammo slowly over the course of several days. A hive, however, comes with stratified layers of life stages, meaning that the hive is consistently renewing armor, even while it's not used. Once carrying capacity is met, the staggering production diminishes and as such, the Chazrach has been trained to be more than giving with his ammunition as stores are filled. A hive can carry roughly 250 blast bugs at any given time and the rate of fire is dependent on activity within the hive. I.e. the more buzzing, the more rapid the fire.
Because of their elevated position, the Sentinel is gifted with a set of Mqaaq'it, allowing them to perceive across multiple spectrums. However, because they don't understand most emotions and remain calm, even in the face of attacks, they typically remain blue eyed and serene. They are often stationed with other beasts of war or lead, methodically, in front of the Legion. You will rarely find one by itself.
Strengths:
[+] Highly resistant: The yorik-coral affords a high level of resistance, similar to vonduun crab armor. Lightsaber resistance, blasters, and slugs.
[+] Nearly automated: Point and click, the Chazrach Sentinel is low maintenance and given only the indoctrination to know who is friendly. Everyone else best look out.
[+] Highly damaging: The blast bug by itself is the vong variant of a guided missile. This is something that trounces that efficacy, equivalent to a missile or grenade launcher.
Weaknesses:
[-] Low Intellect: Despite being a droid, the shapers couldn't reconcile the lower intellect of the Chazrach. While they can follow orders and are loyal, they aren't exactly the brightest lambent in the field.
[-] Maneuverability: The format of the yorik coral and weight does not make for good movement, especially considering the positioning required to successfully fire the blast bug launcher.
[-] Gift that keeps on giving: Despite how awesome it is to have a self-propagating hive, it's also a serious weakness should the yorik-coral be pierced by blaster or slug fire. Despite the reinforcement of the coral in this select spot, it was a weakness that couldn't be entirely over come. And really, who cares, it's just a chazrach!
