"Family is something more than a shared surname,
and runs much deeper than blood;
family is the bone deep sense that even in a galaxy of uncertainties,

your soul has an anchor to keep you on course."
- Jaggen Ee'everwest to a young Teyla

She saw Blaire's struggle. Always a step behind her older siblings, fighting with all the strength of her heart to try and keep up with their gifts. Often she failed to recognize the brilliance of her own shine.

Perhaps it was in part, her own fault. Despite her best efforts to connect with Blaire, Teyla always felt a step removed. Baros seemed to understand her mind much better than she ever could, and because of that connection between father and daughter, she'd glossed over trying to solve the mysteries of her youngest. Forcing herself to ignore the worries that surfaced out of the fear that she might say the wrong thing and create yet another stumbling block, some hinderance in the way of her daughters personal growth.

But, Baros Sal-Soren Baros Sal-Soren was not here to offer his support, and having spent more time with Blaire, Teyla increasingly worried her daughter was so lost in herself and in the shelter of nobility, that she lacked the necessary strength for the dangers of the journey that lie ahead of them.

No longer was she a child that could be soothed by the simplicity of being rocked in her parents arms, protected from the perils of a rough road and scraped knees. The Hapan court was rife with betrayal, bloodshed, and ruthless despots. It was nothing like the peaceful lives they'd lead on Naboo, where even the lowest amongst them was afforded the same level of respect as royalty, because of the simple belief that all life held value.

While her sister Eline Djo had promised them safety, it would be foolish to lower their guard.

That was why she'd called Blaire to the dojo in the early hours of the latest sleep cycle, to cultivate courage and sow the seeds of strength, stamping out the roots of self-doubt.

From beyond the sliding door, she felt the presence of her daughter and a slight smile tugged at her clever lips.

"Good morning," she said with a musical lilt to her voice, back turned and opening one of the cabinets inside the makeshift dojo, pulling out a spool of white bandages and wrapping her hands in preparation, head dipped in concentration. "I know your father has seen to your being trained in the art of Teras Kasi and Echani martial arts." turning, she tossed the wrappings to Blaire with a nod. "Wrap your hands and remove your shoes before you come onto the mat. I want you to show me what you've learned from these lessons."

Good morning? Teyla was planning on punching her in the fact first thing in the morning, and somehow, she had still related it to a good one. That was fine, she guessed. Blaire walked into the dojo and glanced around briefly as if she had never been there before. Though she had. Simply recalling all the places, she had bled or lost consciousness in this room. To be fair, she did a lot better against people that couldn't literally increase their strength or speed on a whim. That said, she wasn't going to shy away from them. Reality was one thing, but Blaire had always felt an inner fire to outdo her siblings, and even her own Mother.

"Morning. Yeah, you know it. A little more Teras Kasi than Echani, but the one tutor we had, remember he ended up being a fugitive? Errr, that was a weird time..."

Blaire said, striking up some small talk, while catching the bandages and doing as her mother had directed. It would take about three and a half minutes before Blaire was on her feet, and sliding out of her sneakers. With that, she inhaled heavily, and stepped onto the mat; eyes faltering but ultimately looking up at her mother. Blaire had no hope of winning a 'fair' fight against the woman. Afterall she had seen this woman crush matter with nothing but her mind. Deflect actual plasma with her lightsaber; where the heck was it anyway? Blaire glanced around the room, wondering if it was here.

"Maybe we can keep the face out of it this time? I was going to go to Nick's later, with Toosa and Daniel. They're having like a photo op or something"

Blaire said, telling a bold-faced lie to lower the intensity of the training her mother intended for her. Though immediately she realized that she really, really hated lying... And liars to boot.

"Okay, that's a lie, but the point is..."

She casually fell into a base Teras Kasi fighting stance, and inched towards her mother, telegraphing the jab that she was thinking of striking with first... Oddly, very comfortable with talking while fighting.

"I was hoping to not get my nose bloodied this early in the morning, if that's cool"

Blaire giggled, half serious, half joking; all weary of her mother's rated a for asskicking worthy hands.
