"All Warriors understand the need to face and defeat the enemy. Both aspects of the tasks can be challenging.
Both can require thought, insight, and planning.
But a warrior may forget that even the task of identifying the enemy can be difficult.
And the cost of that failure can lead to catastrophe."
-Grand Admiral Thrawn
OUT-OF-CHARACTER INFORMATION
GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Army Name: Warrior Corps
  • Classification: Component military force to the Chiss Expansionary Defense Fleet
  • Affiliation: Chiss Expansionary Defense Fleet [OR ANY CHISS FACTION]

  • Army Symbol: Though they maintained the use of the Chiss Defense Force symbol, many within the CEDF took to using the Chiss Reformationists symbol as a sign of solidarity. It would eventually become the de facto symbol despite Alliance and Imperial ire.
  • Description: Not to be confused with the common Chiss enlisted military designation of "Warrior", the Warrior Corps was considered an elite marine unit attached to the Chiss Expansionary Defense Fleet and their operations. Donning an updated design of the iconic fractal-pattern armor worn by Chiss commandos during the Yuuzhan Vong wars, they are the Chiss Ascendancy's equivalent to Galactic Alliance Marines or The Empire's Stormtrooper, though drastically fewer in number. Warriors are typically chosen from the standard Chiss military and invited to join the CEDF for their bravery in battle, their recorded desire to explore the Chaos and Uncivilized Space, or their more militaristic views. Typically, a member of the Warrior Corps will be more sympathetic to the ideals of the CEDF, willing to push the boundaries of what is considered a "Pre-emptive strike" regardless of the consequences back home in the Chaos. The Warrior Corps are deployed to defend warships from boarding actions, deployed as planetary scouts alongside battle droids and scout droids, and as the main force multiplier of a ship's commander for planetside missions or their own boarding actions.

SOCIAL INFORMATION
  • Headquarters: Naporar
  • Goals: To defend the Chiss Ascendancy and the CEDF from any and all external threats
  • Reputation: Members of the Warrior Corps are generally seen as respectable soldiers by the general galaxy. Despite their small number, after the destruction of Csilla they were instrumental in keeping the peace within their borders, a domain usually restricted to them, and were an exceptional asset to Jedi and Alliance intelligence as they worked with Jedi Shadows and SIA operatives as escorts on dangerous missions behind enemy lines. To the Chiss however, they were seen as the worst of what the CEDF, a historically controversial branch of the Chiss military. They were considered excessively violent, risk takers, and hell raisers by Chiss Defense Force brass, and civilians even resorted to calling them Devil Eyed, a derogatory term from Uncivilized Space for the Chiss. That being said, without their blood, sweat, and tears, the Chiss Ascendancy would have fallen apart, and that at least is understood by their people.
COMPOSITION INFORMATION
  • Army Size: Medium
  • Composition: The ranks of the Warrior Corps included Junior Warrior, Mid Warrior, Senior Warrior, and Sentinel before attuning back to the Chiss standard ranks of the navy.
    • Warrior Commandos: Special Forces Chiss Warriors. Their armor was usually black rather than the blue of the standard Warrior Corps and they all donned the winged helmets of officers. They had access to special and experimental weapons from the Universal Analysis Group.
    • Warrior Precursors: CEDF Warriors trained in scouting and exploration. They utilized their skills to track enemies, explore potentially hazardous worlds, and scout ahead of the main military body when on planetside operations.
    • Warrior Marines: The general body of the Warrior Corps.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Established centuries ago before the Nikardun Conquests, the CEDF Warrior Corps has always been a part of the Expansionary Defense Fleet providing support to the external arm of the Chiss Defense Force. Tasked to "watch over Chiss interests in the parts of the Chaos extending beyond the Ascendancy's borders, to learn who was out there and assess their level of threat." the CEDF Warrior Corps had long been ridiculed for their violence and been the object of controversy for the Chiss Syndicure and Ruling Council. The branch was almost disbanded when thousands of men and women defected to the growing Hand of Thrawn prior to the Yuuzhan Vong War. However, their actions resulted in the protection of the Chiss as a species despite terrible losses during the conflict. Moving to the modern age, the Warrior Corps was again in a compromising position with a growing sentiment towards isolation after the Gulag Plague. Funding to the CEDF was cut, bringing their numbers down to a minuscule handful of small fleets and outposts in the Chaos. Ironically, this turn inwards saw a large boom in military technology as the Chiss sought to enhance their internal defense fleet and forces. When Csilla was destroyed, however, much of the Chiss Defense Fleet's leadership was killed and the government was left in shambles. Despite warnings from the CEDF the Chiss kept to their non-aggressive, no-first-strike policy leaving the CEDF nearly untouched in the initial attack.

Experienced members of the CEDF and Warrior Corps swooped in to pick up the pieces, taking the advanced warships and technology from the Chiss Defense Fleet in a near coup that would see a meteoric rise in the CEDF's influence and power within the Ascendancy Remnant. Warrior Corps marines marched through Chiss streets fighting off Brotherhood raiders and CEDF Commanders pushed back against the tide of Brotherhood Path warships. Many from the Defense Fleet would transfer to the CEDF, bolstering their numbers. Throughout the Second Great Hyperspace War, the CEDF and Warrior Corps would fight against the Brotherhood in what would become known as the Chiss Theatre alongside Imperials and Alliance Defense Forces alike. However, their loss of control of Chiss Space would irk some members of the Warrior Corps and CEDF, pushing them to aid in a rebellion in Imperial Space. Many Chiss Warriors would be sent undercover as "advisors" to aid in the military build-up, eventually aiding them in the taking of the Redoubt. The rebellion would fail however and many of the Reformationists and the leaders that survived would return to Chiss Space and the Chiss Warrior Corps.

After the war, the Chiss Warrior Corps remains an important arm of the Chiss Expansionary Defense Fleet and their power base in the still tumultuous political situation within the Ascendancy. With many factions to serve they are pulled in every direction as the new Syndicure begins to take shape.
