jA7ajEH.jpg

OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To submit an advanced, environmentally reactive fractal-pattern for use by Chiss Commandos of the Chiss Ascendancy.
  • Image Source: iStyles.com; ABU Camo
  • Restricted Missions: N/A
  • Primary Source: Fractal-Pattern Armor
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
  • Name: Fractal-Pattern Coating
  • Manufacturer: Chiss Ascendancy
  • Homeworld (optional): N/A

  • Production: Limited
  • Affiliation: Chiss Ascendancy; Chiss Commando units
  • Modularity: Yes; as a camouflage sheet, can be draped over armor for concealment or applied as coating on armor directly.
  • Material: Elastex, reflec micro-polymers, photosensitive microscopic crystals, static circuitry inlays, belt pouch compartment & retracting components (camo sheet specific)
PHYSICAL SPECIFICATIONS
  • Classification: Crystal-based coating
  • Weight: Very Light
  • Resistances:
    Blasters: None

  • Kinetic: Very Low

  • Lightsabers: None

  • Environment: Very Low

[*]
Color: Black; otherwise the same color as the immediate environment

SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Reflects ambient colors around it, to appear almost invisible, including in multiple visible spectrum.
  • Reflec polymers allow for light-warping and sensor blocking.
  • Able to be utilized in two forms; as a camouflage sheet that drapes over armor, or as a coating for armor directly.
  • Static charge from control pad on wearer can temporarily disable reflective effect, allowing normal visual appearance.
Strengths:
  • Utilizes an advanced form of microscopic crystals to reflect ambient light around the user, rendering them nearly invisible.
  • Utilizes an advanced form of micro-inlay reflect, to assist in light-warping and sensor blocking.
  • Able to be used as flexible camouflage sheet over a humanoid form, or as coating for armor directly.
Weaknesses:
  • Little-to-no resistances, as a coating.
  • Damage to the coating will disrupt the effect; both sheet and armor.
  • Excessive movement will confuse the reflective properties of the crystals, disrupting the effect.
  • Rapidly changing light sources may result in crystal reflection delay, disrupting the effect.
  • Has no effect in environments darker than standard artificial lighting, making it primarily useful in lit environments.
  • Electrical charges can disrupt reflective properties, potentially damaging crystals, disrupting the effect.
  • Very expensive to make, limiting use to Chiss Commandos.
DESCRIPTION
The Chiss Ascendancy wanted to ensure their fractal-pattern armor was updated, so they utilized several newer materials available in microscopic form, in order to improve on the existing technology. By combining reflective crystals and reflec polymers, Chiss techs were able to attain a higher level of light reflection than previous fractal-pattern coating was capable. Additionally, the coating process became a lot simpler, as far as applying microscopic coating was concerned, which allowed for the creation of the camouflage sheet - whereas previously, only direct coating to armor was possible.

As a result, the newer camouflage sheet served as an alternative to direct coating, which could preserve the coating for a longer period of time; this was done by having the sheet retract rapidly into a compartment on the back of the Commando's belt, where it automatically reeled in neatly. This meant that, should the Commando be seen, removing the camo sheet meant no damage was done to it directly. This also meant the Commando no longer had reflective effects in place, so the offset between options was personal choice - both good and bad.

The direct coating was effective, but even small amounts of damage - such as knocking a gauntlet on duracrete - could result in the coating being disrupted in that location. So long as the Commando was considerate, the coating to the armor would be maintained; however, combat often saw a lot of the fractal-pattern worn off and the effect lost as a result. As far as command were concerned, the more cost effective method of utilizing a camo sheet was preferred; but they also allowed Commandos to determine how they wanted their gear set up.

In either instance, the maximum effect was gained by standing still. Slow walking speeds also provided ample reflective effect, however speeds of anything close or faster to a normal walk would result in lessened effectiveness and higher risk of discovery.

All in all, the Chiss Ascendancy were content with the efforts of the techs, and the Chiss Commandos now had multiple options to pick from for their armor and fractal-pattern application.
