SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Ionized quarrels, created specifically for EMP damage to mechanical systems and objects
  • Concentrated quarrel bolt capable of creating EMP splash damage, potentially affecting other objects in close proximity (several meters)
  • Requires fewer shots to disable droids or land vehicles, due to quarrel releasing ion charge on impact
Strengths:
  • Incredible stopping power against mechanical systems and objects and shields.
  • Bolts release additional ion charge on impact, improving effect on target object.
  • Long range.
Weaknesses:
  • Requires energy charge before each shot, slowing fire rate.
  • Slow to reload.
  • Limited ammunition capacity.
DESCRIPTION
The Chiss Ion Rifle is a long range weapon adapted to utilize specially crafted ionized quarrels. Using a similar method of the Bowcaster ammunition type, the Chiss have altered the bolt envelope to carry an ionized charge, rather than thermal. And rather than an explosive payload per quarrel, the techs instead had it contain a more stable electronic configuration, which kept the ionization in place until violently released with impact. Additionally, due to the physical mass involved in firing each quarrel, the range has been significantly increased.

Due to the nature of the quarrel ion release, there is a splash damage effect, which tapers off after several meters. And while this area damage can affect systems and electronics, to fully utilize the power of each bolt requires a solid impact; for example, nearby droid units may receive a discharge that shocks their outer shells, causing temporary paralysis, while the main target will receive the full brunt of ionization impact and cease functioning.

Impact with a shield will result in the ion charge being used, potentially disabling that shield, and also may result in the quarrel continuing to impact against the target - without the ion release. However, once a shield is down, ion damage can impact as per normal against non-organic objects and systems.

Due to the charge time of each quarrel before firing, there is a delay to firing speed of around 3-5 seconds per shot. Additionally, reload takes time due to the solid nature of the magazine, compared to power packs.

Around 3-5 seconds? I figured vague would be better, so long as its used like intended, namely ranged fire.
