The Viziter gauntlet is a specialized piece of technology developed by the Chiss Ascendancy solely for use by Viziter members. Utilizing the existing knowledge of Light-Shields, Chiss techs worked at incorporating their own version of a lightsaber blade into the functionality of the gauntlet; the aim was to provide a practical military application for defense and offense, without the reliance on Jedi or Sith 'hocus pocus' when building a traditional lightsaber with the Force - as the Chiss Ascendancy view the Force as a tool, not an ideology or mythical entity. Instead, the Chiss used science, and the Viziter Gauntlet was created.
The function of the gauntlet is simple enough. Techs replaced the radius expanding activator of the shield, and instead realigned it to activate as a focus point beyond the hand; this resulted in a blade that, when emitted, tapered into a point that was a little shorter of a traditional blade in length. Unfortunately, the components required for the shield-to-blade activation meant the shield lost the capacity to increase size, instead remaining as a buckler. Additionally, the blade was narrower than a normal lightsaber, as well as shorter, which meant a loss in defense coverage and reach - but ultimately the design was considered a success, as Viziter's were able to utilize both a shield and weapon, without taking up a hand.
Specialist training was required for the Viziter Gauntlet, as having a shield with the properties of a lightsaber strapped to a forearm had some dangers associated with it; so Viziters have become proficient in avoiding personal injury and know how to block without having their shield or blade knocked back onto their person by standard means (saber to saber contact, deflecting bolts, etc). This also meant developing a fighting style that could utilize this design, which involves a blade locked in a front facing position, without the capability to twist or pivot on the arm; and while not ideal when against more intricate lightsaber forms, such as Form II, each Viziter still remains a capable practitioner with this gauntlet and blade combination, and retains a similar - if a little unorthodox - fighting style comparable to other Force Users' forms.
