Description: Choruk Ku'yayr is a region of territory held by the Betna Clan of Mandalore comprising its primary, or capital, holding as a clan. The area is filled with rugged hills, rivers, and ravines along with thick forests spread throughout. Bordered by mountains on one side and plains to the other, the region has been occupied by the Betna Clan since the clan's founding making it their ancestral home.
Betna Homestead - The main habitation area and most populated site of the holding, the main clan homestead is a large collection of homes, workshops, and other buildings forming what essentially amounts to a Mandalorian town. The homestead features a large landing pad with hangar and a large central structure that functions as both a town hall and as the home of Arrbi and Anija Betna. Most, if not all, of the structures follow traditional Mandalorian construction meaning the structures are both utilitarian and easily defendable.
Vorpan Ahbucatr - Known in Basic as Green Falls, the site is a natural waterfall higher up in the hills west of the Betna Homestead. The river it connects to is fed by lakes higher up in the mountains and a number of Mandalorian families have erected small family homesteads in the area to take advantage of fresh water and fish from the river.
A'yihbe choruk - Literally translated as Ancient Stones, the location refers to the lower foothills east and south of the main homestead. The location earns its name from the large amount of rock, debris, and shattered stone that tends to blanket much of the area. A small amount of basic mining is done here and many families have settled nearby.
Nari Aliit - Nari Aliit, or Moving Families, is less a specific location and more a blanket term used to reference the more nomadic families within the region and the various locations they tend to call home at various points of the year. These groups migrate from place to place following the animals they hunt, relocating to better lumber harvesting areas, or simply to fulfill a basic wanderlust among other reasons.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Originally settled by the founding members of the Betna clan, Choruk Ku'yayr was selected as a homestead for two main reasons. First and foremost, it was defendable with relative ease with the natural terrain providing a deterrence against attack and easily occupied defensive positions along with the ability to maneuver through the area while hiding said maneuvers with relative ease. Secondly, the land provided clean water and ample sustenance, the soil fertile for agriculture and the local game bountiful. The first homes were constructed where the Betna homestead currently stands today and over time, the settlement grew in size.
Eventually, formal boundaries were set and declared for the surrounding area and held by the clan itself. The settlement established and the land formally owned, the clan began to grow in leaps and bounds. Eventually, the clan outgrew its primary holding and expanded outwards into different areas, though ultimately Choruk Ku'yayr remained the clan’s capital, so to speak.
When the Plague hit, the clan lost contact with its holdings outside of Mandalore, reducing the primary clan to its sole holdings among the hills. During that time, the clan consolidated and worked towards survival. Originally hit hard by the plague, the Betna clan regained its footing after some time and began to thrive once more. The homestead strengthened and served as a local trade hub of sorts. Local hunters and frontier folk would trade wares in town which in turn found their way to nearby cities such as Keldabe. The population soared by relative terms and when the Darkness ended and the clan was able to reconnect with their lost holdings, the Stone Hills once again became the clan’s primary “capital” holding, a status that it has held until current times.
