OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Religion Name: Church of the Force- Outer Rim Sects
  • Religion Type: Force-Oriented
  • Influence: Interplanetary (This particular branch)
  • Influence Area: Primarily the southern reaches of the Outer Rim where the Outer Planets Alliance held influence
  • Symbol: N/A, but the emblem of the Jedi Order is closely affiliated, as is the image of kyber crystals
  • Description: A communal focused, humanitarian driven religion focused primarily on personal spiritual growth towards enlightenment via contemplative practices and serving the Force by serving Life that developed in the Outer Rim to both make up for the lack of Jedi and to aid the Jedi who live and work primarily in the Outer RIm outside of the established, government-supported Orders.
SOCIAL INFORMATION
  • Founder: Addar's Mother, originally for the religion as a whole, no known individual for the current nature of the Outer Rim sects.
  • Membership: It is a choice that can only be made freely by those who wish to be members. Methods of joining are as diverse as the galaxy, but commonly involve speaking with members in a local chapter house or community, being involved, and swearing to uphold the basic tenets of promoting harmony within the Force by promoting harmony within their communities and their world.
  • Sacred: The Force, Life Itself, Living things
  • Dogma: Based on the Jedi Code, the Outer Rim sects have adapted its key components to the use of non-Force sensitive individuals, believing they are fully capable of encouraging the harmony between the Force and their physical reality through their actions, even if they cannot influence the Force itself. As a result, the Church of the Force is pacifistic, altruistic, and mystic in its attitude, with volunteerism being a core tenet of its practical application, as well as reconciliation and restorative when it comes to resolving problems. They believe that the Force is the guiding energy of the universe and that when in balance, harmony between all living things and the Force can exist, but the Jedi are necessary to maintain and protect that balance. For them, balance in the Force is when there is harmony between living things, the Living Force, and the Cosmic Force, without people using the Force or violence to elevate themselves in power and exploit others or the natural world. Furthermore, they believe in tending to one's own spiritual development and growth through a wide variety of individual and communal contemplative practices, with many practicing meditations, either in the traditional sense, or through some other active method that leads to the same mindset of emptying to the self and becoming one with the Force.
  • Reputation: It has a generally positive reputation amongst those friendly, or at least neutral, to the Jedi, both in concept and in reality, based if not for their reverence of the Force and Life, but for their humanitarian and charity work across the Outer Rim. Those of a more cynical bent are likely to view them as naive, or suckers, or having some ulterior agenda. But overall, they are and are viewed as a peaceable organization committed to their beliefs and their practice for the betterment of all living things.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
The Chruch of the Force is ancient compared to the current time-frame, dating back to the rise of the first Galactic Empire, and surviving the Imperial purges, the war with the First Order, and eventually, the Gulag Plague to begin reawakening and making a comeback with the return of the galactic community following the Gulag Plague. Compared to other religions in the galaxy, however, it is quite young, being not more than a thousand years old. In that time, it lacks much of the storied legends, history, and lore of many other religions, even that of the Jedi Order, which it holds in high reverence.

Following the resumption of the galactic community, the Church of the Force was quite small until it became more active through the actions and integration of Jedi Masters Veiere Arenais and Tiland Kortun, with that being enough to begin a bit of a resurgence. However, their Jedi duties took them away from the Church and its responsibilities and the tragic loss of Master Arenais was a blow to fledgling resurgence, especially on worlds like Commenor and around the Core.

The Church in the Outer Rim took on a different role in the Outer Rim. It evolved as a grassroots, community-based organization, loosely based around chapter-houses established by local members of the Church as a gathering place, a community center, and a place of contemplation for believers, as well as serving as a hostel for travelers, regardless of their affiliated with the Church. With the dissolution of the Outer Planets Alliance, the Church realized its role had expanded significantly with the loss of the Alliance government and its supporting organizations. They shifted their focus to enshrine that of the ancient Jedi Master Fay, for despite not being Jedi, they saw no reason why they could not fulfill the role when necessary, cultivating connections and supportive relationships with other organizations and groups in the Outer Rim and offered their assistance in negotiation between planets and groups, as well as caring for refugees, the wounded, and the hurt, all things they deem vital to be of service to the Force. With the establishment of the Rimward Trade League, the Church of the Force in the League territories offered to form a partnership. While not making it an official religion or officially endorsing it, the League council agreed that the Church of the Force was an excellent organization capable of fulfilling some of the roles performed by the Jedi of the Outer Planets Alliance. The Church works closely with not only the League and the Jedi Pilgrims, but also the Jedi Coalition based on Svivren to bring together Jedi from across the galaxy.

Initially, the Church grew like a wildfire after the dissolution of the Alliance, establishing chapter houses across the stretches of the Outer Rim, from ecumenopolises to remote frontier colonies, but has slowed now that it has reached something of a plateau in its various regions. However, this only refers to a small segment of the Church of the Force and there are undoubtedly other, different branches of the Church, both in other parts of the galaxy and even within the Outer Rim.
