OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION[/FONT]
This oddly terrifying visage covers the Ciruk's face and offers a healthy amount of protection, the bone protrusions growing into elongated canine teeth that are used to rend flesh and break bone. A Ciruk grows it's bone covering throughout it's entire life, the older it gets the more bold it's bone covering becomes. This means Alpha males of the species are usually easily recognized.
These creatures are absolutely terrifying to encounter in the wild, that is, if you can ever see one.
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
Though most often the growths are simply there to aid the Ciruk in chewing and hunting, it is also there to aid in mating. When a female Ciruk is in heat it's bone protrusion will naturally change and shift in color, going from white to yellow and then to a dark red. When this occurs the female is extremely aggressive, sometimes even towards males of it's species. Researchers suggest it is best to avoid Ciruk in this state.
This bone 'mask' is really the only great distinction that the Ciruk carry of themselves, apart from that they look oddly similar to a furless Vornskr or certain species of Tuk'ata. This has lead many scientists to believe Ciruk are in fact just another off shoot of a more common canine already found in the galaxy. Whether or not this is true however is impossible to determine as multiple expeditions to capture one of the creatures has failed.
Bite Force: Ciruk have an extremely powerful bite force due to their bone protrusions. The bite of a Ciruk is powerful enough to tear limbs off of a human being without much of a problem. It is said that once a Ciruk has you in it's jaws, there's no escaping.
Spines: The spines upon the back of a Ciruk are extremely fragile. Perhaps an odd quirk of their strong facial protection, the spines that extend from a Ciruk's bone mask can be broken almost as easily as a branch. When this is done the Ciruk is immediately placed into a state of extreme pain, panic, and rage.
Partially Blind: The Ciruk suffer from very limited vision. Due to their bone masks they do not have any peripheral vision at all. The standard field of vision a Ciruk has is about sixty to seventy degrees. Compared to the average human who has nearly 120, this is rather small.
CULTURE
The Hounds, as some researchers have simply called them, live on the steppes of the Nir Mountains. They roam both sides of the range and likely traverse through the mountains utilizing tunnels or burrows that have been dug by other greater creatures.
Ciruk do not hunt larger prey, nor are they one of Thra's 'apex predators', instead they sit low on the rungs of the food chain. Ciruk will most often hide and wait for the perfect target, either observing their prey for days on end to see if it is weak enough or targeting a creature that they know will not fight all that hard. The Hounds are only dangerous when they are together, their movement always flawless and complementing one another quickly.
Unlike many other species on Thral the Ciruk breed quickly, their young often learning to hunt at a young age. This trait is of great benefit, since for many creatures on Thral Ciruk are a great source of food and sustenance.
When a Ciruk is split from it's pack the creature becomes somehow lesser. Though it is doubtful they carry any sort of collective intelligence it is known that they most certainly rely upon smarter members of the pack in order to make decisions. When one of the young or 'dumber' members of the pack is caught out alone it becomes vulnerable, making stupid decisions and doing things that it should not be doing.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Due to Thral not being studied long, not much is known about the history of this species.
Though various researchers have dabbled and glanced at the history of Thral and attempted to get a better timeline of when certain creatures appeared it has been found to be all but impossible to actually pin-point anything.
As far as researchers are able to tell Ciruk are one of the longest lasting, and most common creatures on the surface of Thral itself. Though The Hounds generally do not stray too far from their normal habitation zone, it has been observed that most, if not all predators on Thral prey upon them. Due to this it is thought by researchers that Ciruk were one of the first species that were truly established upon the planet itself.
This, of course, may all be incorrect.
The very nature of Thral makes it very difficult to actually study any species individually, and many researchers flat out refuse to do so.
It is known that the last man who attempted to actually get close and find one of these creatures met a very unfortunate end. Though he used specialized scanning equipment and imaging software he was only able to locate three or four of these creatures. While observing the four Ciruk within the clearing the researcher was set upon by the remaining members of the pack, their natural cloaks allowing them to fall upon him with a bloody embrace.
