City Ships

There are a few mentions in the Star Wars lore about City Ships. The most notable being those that orbit (or had orbited) Duros, and the most well known, the Ithorian Herdships.
With the Raulynate being a Semi-Nomadic Magocratical Autocracy, I was looking towards creating a City Ship (though nothing in the size of the 1km range like the Ithorian Herships).
My question is, would this be possible? Or even with its smaller size, would a development thread be required?

Worst case scenario, you make a Space Station as per the Starship Template with 4 writers and 40 posts of development and those are allowed to be enormous compared to what you are looking for.

Yes it's entirely possible to make a city ship. As for a dev thread? It depends on the size and what features you're planning on adding to it. If the ship is below 1km, then no you likely won't need one. If it's above? Yeah probably.

Also this is a really good answer.

Mesa gonna say... When in doubt, yousa do Dev thread.

Even if you don't think it should, a Dev thread shows the FJ how much effort and work you've put towards the idea and shows that you've raised the bar yourself. An impressed FJ is more likely to go "das nahhhce" than "where's mah hammah" on a sub.

Thank you for your answers.
A quick note about the Space Station. I had not considered it because I personally did not feel that it would fit well with the idea of a Semi-Nomadic Faction. The idea of a city ship is so that the primary leadership structure could always be moving when it needs to be as the faction is modeled after the Mongolian Empire. I felt that a stationary Space Station did not make sense to the over all idea.
Thank you for the mention though. I may take it into consideration in the future.

Hey [member="Sasha Santhe"], remember that city ship we made years ago? How big was that sucker again?

EDIT: Nvm, remembered what we called it. Thirty-five kilometres of interstellar empire capital built in and around a nickel-iron asteroid. Good times.

Probably in the range of 700m - 900m. Enough to hold a few thousand people which would make up much of the "court" of the Raulynate.

So after taking a look at the space station template, I feel a bit foolish now. Seeing that it has placement for a Maneuverability Rating, Speed Rating and Hyperdrive rating, I'm think that it would be the best choice for the faction rather than a smaller vessel.

The question would be how big can a Minor Faction make a space station, cause of this. (I missed it earlier). I don't personally know how this would pertain to space stations since they require so much more Development than a 2,400 meter war ship though.

General Rules
5. Space Stations at or above 1,000 meters will always require a development thread. Minimum: 40 posts, 3-4 writers

Minor Faction Rules
1. Minor factions are permitted unique, PC-captained ships up to a length of 1,000 meters

Yes, that would be a good bit of knowledge to know. How large a space station could a minor faction build. Would it be considered a vessel the moment we slipped a hyperdrive in?

So long as it is a space station it should be fine. Not all ships/stations have hyperdrives, either. That being said, you could produce a limited production line of 'city ships' that travel together, perhaps each being around 1km in length and varying height/width.

If ya go the limited production path, you should considering thinking up of a way to have those stations be able to link up together in a super structure when they are stationary and not moving. Of course that brings up a whole new ballpark of advantages and disadvantages.
