Civil lawsuit procedure

Ugohr Poof

The Traveling Gungan Salesman
Suppose that a player wanted to file a civil lawsuit ICly against an Alliance player, an Alliance-based corporation or the Alliance itself, or regarding any of these entities.
  1. What are the steps for one to do so?
  2. Are civil trials conducted before a judge and jury or judge alone?
  3. Can a civil case be appealed? If so, what channels are there for appeals?

I haven't been clear as to what I meant by "procedure". Does it require a PC judge when one threads about civil lawsuits where one party (or both) is an Alliance-affiliated entity? (If a PC judge was required however, said PC must not be the played by the same writer as either party)

One would assume that courts in Alliance territory would tend to prioritize hearing of criminal cases over civil cases ICly, and hence it would be reasonable to expect the civil lawsuit docket to be a lot longer (time-wise). Yet we know civil lawsuits exist in canon.

Perhaps, at a later point (assuredly post-Omega though, but when exactly will depend on the sentence for Ugohr's IC crimes) I would have Ugohr effect an attempt to regain ownership of IGR because the Malastare government filed a lawsuit against its current owner (another of my alts) to block the transaction.

You would get in contact with the owner of the company IGR, (or the offending player,) and request a roleplay with them. There is no other ooc 'procedure'. We just roleplay to roleplay.

Now. If your questions are whole'y an ic concern? Then my answer to all three of your questions is: "Meh. Nobody cares. Just wing it." :p

The criminal procedure would require, in the military case, a command-level officer and, if the defendant is a Jedi, a Jedi Marshall. Judge alone. No jury. (Ugohr is undergoing it)

The trick is that IGR Brokerage (I refer to that corporation as IGR most of the time when I write about it) remained within my fold as a writer. [member="Cathul Thuku"] is my Mando and is the current owner; it used to be Ugohr's property before the crimes on Chandrila happened. I guess, when Ugohr's sentence has been served or some point where parole can be effected, his blind trust could enable him to buy back IGR, in whole or in part, and start another solo thread where the transaction can be made back to Ugohr.

IGR is one of the major Alliance-based corporations that isn't a defense contractor, despite no longer owned by an Alliance-based entity, headquartered on Malastare. You could imagine how angry the Malastarian Council is ICly. For once that they had a major corporation on their ground...

Preaching to the choir darlin'.

That said. If you are hellbent on suing yourself. Just throw up a thread in the LFG and see who wants to participate/spectate. Easy as pie.
