[SIZE=9pt]Not everything is about war, about having the biggest guns or the most dangerous navy. Someone needs to earn the money to pay for that navy, to bring them supplies so they don’t starve. It’s that that the Clifford-class Freighter is designed to do. The Clifford’s are large empty ships designed, through automation, to function with a bare minimum of crew. All that space that might be used for crew and weapons on a warship is instead turned into storage space for the cargo the [/SIZE][SIZE=9pt]Clifford is designed to transport. That isn’t to say the ship is entirely defenceless[/SIZE][SIZE=9pt], it does pack a small suite of primarily automated weapons, primarily to hold off any pirate ships that might decide to prey on the freighter until it can turn and run for cover.[/SIZE]
[SIZE=9pt]The benefit of having such a heavily automated ship is that although the majority of the space might be taken up by cargo space, the accommodations available to the crew are downright luxurious compared to most ships. Each crewmember has a room of their own, with a small attached refresher. This private space is needed since the Clifford class is designed with continuous movement in mind, with crews spending vast amounts of time aboard the freighter a semblance of personal space is needed. The rooms are separated by rank, with officers having larger spaces and additional rooms and the captain and owner both possessing full suites about the ship. [/SIZE]
Given their larger size the Clifford-class Freighters have a significant carrying capacity, shifting significant amounts of goods and products. However, the capacity comes at a cost, the vast open hangars have compromised the structural strength of the ship, meaning there is no chance that they can ever land on a planet. This is why the ship comes equipped with a hangar capable of supporting a few transport craft able to transfer goods to the surface of a planet or space station without the ship having to dock or land itself. However, for the purpose they were built for, the Clifford-class Freighter is a very capable workhorse.
