This is NOT an open thread. Only those tagged are to post.

Faith and Ater, I have not yet tagged Genevieve. We will do so when it is time for testimony.

Location: Private Conference Room
Purpose: The closed hearing of Prime Minister Genevieve Lasedri

Mark Crassis settled into his chair to the right of the long conference room table at the head of the room, leaving the center and left chair empty. Crassis was not taking the lead in this hearing, that duty was reserved for Senator [member="Ater Notechis"]. [member="Faith Balor"], the third member of the Intelligence Committee would be joining them as well.

Following the exposure of several pieces of evidence indicating a connection between the Prime Minister and the Rebel Alliance, it was deemed necessary that a hearing be held to determine if any wrongdoing was done and what course of action was needed. There was even some talk of a vote of no confidence and this hearing would likely settle whether or not such a measure was warranted.

Crassis hadn't had much interaction with the Prime Minister since he came into politics, but she was currently he boss and that made this hearing the more unusual. But given the information gathering capabilities of the Intelligence Committee, it was deemed they were the best to handle this internal matter.

Only time would tell whether or not they would be finding in favor of the Prime Minister or against.

Ater was on time. She was never early and never late. Both showed a weakness in time management and she never showed any chinks in her armour.

She nodded to Senator Crassis as she entered. She saw where this appointment – to head up the hearing was going the moment she’d been invited. It was a step in a given direction that she hadn’t fought. She hadn’t asked for it, but she understood the need – both the Republic’s and hers.

So she took the middle seat and awaited the third and final member of the group to arrive. Their task was simple – at least in her eyes. Cut away the theory, gossip, conjecture and hyperbole and deal with the facts.

It was actually a very simple process – only emotions made it challenging – and fortunately she didn’t have any time for those when at work. They distracted and caused mistakes.

So she sat and poured herself a glass of water from the flask provided and then took a sip. She resisted the urge to check the time and simply waited.

Faith was late she came in nodded and murmured her apologies. The next case before them was about the Prime Minister. She had been part of the Senate for a time she had little interaction with the Prime Minister and on each bill it seemed they were always on the opposite side.

But was the Prime Minister capable of going against the Republic this she didn't know and that is what they would look at.

She looked at those with her and could tell they were as deeply contemplative about this as she .

Ater nodded an acknowledgement to Senator Balor. They were all here. In terms of evidence, there was plenty of hearsay but they needed to hear specific evidence and one Senator was more vocal than all of the others.

"Thanks for attending," she offered her companions. "We seem to be making a habit of this." There was no humour in her voice - at least none discernable.

"Given the recent allegations made at the Senate, I have made arrangements for a key witness to present evidence before we introduce the Prime Minister to the proceedings."

"And rather than list what I think are the charges to answer, I'll call the first witness who I believe will inform us precisely of what we should be challenging the Prime Minister on."

All the while she sat bolt upright, her voice low and even, little intonation present.

She reached forward and pressed the intercom. "Please send in Alyesa Organa, thank-you."

"We should allow her to make a statement and then we can ask questions. It seems a very simple process, there's no need to complicate it."

[member="Alyesa Organa"] | [member="Faith Balor"] | [member="Mark Crassis"]

Complications were always involved in politics - especially when you dug up dirt - you just ended up getting muddy. In the case of Alyesa Organa, she was stuck deep in a mud so thick, it suffocated her purpose within the Galactic Republic Senate and only increased the distaste for the current situation. She'd be allowed entrance by the guards before her - unbound and untouched by the shackles that once had befallen her, courtesy of the Republic which she loyally served. A Senatorial aide followed closely behind, with several datapads in hand that contained closely guarded secrets and confidential information.

She'd approach the table and gesture for the aide to drop the datapads before her, to which the younger woman did so and Alyesa would quietly thank her before dismissing her. Once the aide had left the room - she'd turn her attention to all who were present. [member="Ater Notechis"] - A Senator from Taanab who no doubt had some intelligence and experience in this sort've field. Alyesa would keep a close eye on what this woman did and how relative the information she revealed would be noted. [member="Faith Balor"] - her sister and closest confidant within the Senate Chambers, yet had little to no power beyond the walls of the Senate floor. She was here, perhaps as a reminder, of what Alyesa was working for. [member="Mark Crassis"] - a grump man of sorts, or so his reputation had spoken - but a very good politician. Like Ater, she knew very little about them - but this meeting would tell her enough.

"What I am about to reveal, are closely guarded secrets and revelations that are not to leave this room. These are Corporation procedures and protective measures to ensure product integrity - and aren't used for any other purpose as such." She gestured towards the datapads before her. "Infact, we ceased all the functions and data collection units on all models when we released the XJ-9 and opted for regular maintenance, which is why we have Incom technicians on every Republic installation." She'd bring the first datapad to the connection plate and insert it firmly.

A holo before them would shimmer to life, revealing various statistical information to include locations, altitude, output and various other critical information on twelve XA-5 models purchased by the accused Prime Minister.

"Each has a unique identifier - matching the corresponding contract to the Prime Minister." She gestured to the screen before her. "Each can be traced back to the original contract - as well as their locations to which my company was not responsible for locating and determining mis-use...if there was any." She'd change the holo over to the contract. "As it clearly states, Incom Corporation must identify the government or affiliated entity which is purchasing products for Military use - as you can see it's clearly identified that the Rebel Alliance is the purchaser, and you've already seen Lasedri's signature at the bottom." She'd flip screens, the holo adjusting accordingly.

"This shows their build date, shipment date and where they were to be shipped to." She'd hand each one of them a datapad. "This information, as I stated before - is confidential in nature and I will ask that it be destroyed when you are finished determining whatever facts are nessecary - I would hate for any misuse of this information by it falling into the wrong hands."

Ater listened patiently and attentively. Finally she spoke. “I shall give my colleagues here a chance to ask questions but I’ll start with a couple if I may.”

“Firstly, it is my understanding that you withdrew all Incom ships. I am unsure why there would be Incom technicians on every Republic installation. But that’s possibly an aside.”

“So to my main question. I’ll not challenge the validity of the signature and if said ships were delivered or not, it is an intention to purchase that is relevant here. My point is this…why would it be an issue if they were purchased for the Rebel Alliance? Are you saying the Prime Minister used Republic funds? I ask as our relations to the Alliance is cordial. Friendly I believe is the technical term.”

“And rest assured, the information will not leave the room unless it is pertinent to the investigation we’re having with the person you are referring to.”

[member="Alyesa Organa"] | [member="Faith Balor"] | [member="Mark Crassis"]

Alyesa waved a hand before her. "Funding did not come from any accounts that were associated to the Republic - but the connections to the Rebel Alliance persisted up to the point where the Prime Minister posted for election to that post and could furthermore be pointed beyond that if pressed hard enough. That is the point here, her connections existed through a terrorist organization that committed genocide and other atrocities against peaceful citizenry across various territories and we allowed her to be elected to a seat where she can puppeteer the Republic like it's her own Alliance - or one could even say the Rebel Alliance is now a militant extension of the Republic." She gestured. "How does that look for the image of the Republic? When we're trying to remain peaceful with a vast majority of factions that would turn on us in a drop of a hat?"

After looked at her companions. "At the risk of taking over the hearing, please let me ask a follow-up question and then I'll take a step back."

"What you have described is a serious allegation against the Rebel Alliance. But is it they or the Prime Minister that is under discussion here? I can understand an argument that says there is some guilt by association - but I fear a decision to decide a Government we are effectively allies with is now a terrorist organisation is way above our pay grade."

"And even if we were able to come to that conclusion, there would have to be proof beyond reasonable doubt that the Prime Minister was aware this Government was committing genocide when the purchase order was placed. Is this something you can demonstrate?"

[member="Alyesa Organa"] | [member="Faith Balor"] | [member="Mark Crassis"]

Crassis listened to Ater's questions and nodded along in agreement as he. He listened patiently as Alyesa answered the initial questions and then tapped his cane after Ater asked another series, drawing attention toward him.

"I'd also like the put everything on the record." Crassis said, turning to indicate the droid stenographer, "When you accuse the Rebel Alliance, and through them the Prime Minister, of association with genocides and terrorist activities, what specifically are you referencing?" Crassis asked.

"I want you to assume we know nothing...." Crassis said smiling, "We are Senators after all....its not a far leap to make."

[member="Ater Notechis"] - [member="Alyesa Organa"] - [member="Faith Balor"]

Faith looked at the information and then looked to [member="Alyesa Organa"] this document to her showed that the Prime Minister did buy these ships, and that they were for the Alliance, but the question that had to be answered was, what was the status of the Alliance.

She had to agree with [member="Mark Crassis"] what was the evidence that said the Aliance was a group of terrorists. And then there was that if the Alliance was such an organization did the Prime Minister know as pointed out by [member="Ater Notechis"] . If there was proof that the Alliance was a terrorist organization and that the Prime Minister bought ships for them the appearance of impropriety would be involved, proving she had knowledge that was the burden of proof.

She did not ask a question at the moment, as always she was listening and doing her best to remain neutral.

Alyesa gestured towards the three before her. "It is not the duty of Incom Corporation to dig into the secrets of others, that is for the Intelligence division - I have given you the tools and information - you need to connect the dots." She'd wave her hands away. "If the Galactic Republic doesn't consider their actions on Geonosis a crime, then we're condoning taking thousands of years of culture, and destroying it. Regicide, I believe is their most recent atrocity." She'd sigh briefly. "Additionally, Military Alliances or even that of a formal basis should be ratified before the Senate - not approved by the Military unless I'm missing where we went from a democracy to a dictatorship, maybe again, we did become an Empire if we're allowing the Prime Minister and the Military Supreme Commander to run around and do what they wish without any oversight and the Senate has absolutely no authority."

She'd raise an eyebrow. "Was there something I missed? Did democracy die?"

ooc: this was all I could find, if it isn't the correct link, please provide one in your next post so that we can review the evidence

"I'm not asking Incom, Senator Organa, I'm asking you as the individual leveling an accusation." Crassis said, adjusting his glasses and pulling up his datapad. The intelligence division had begun some digging prior to the hearing, and Crassis had to assume, given the mention of Geonosis, that the event she was referring to was an uprising of workers that was supported by the Rebel Alliance.

"I assume you are referencing the uprising on Geonosis." Crassis said sitting the datapad down and glancing back at Alyesa Organa. "From what I've gathered in my review of the dossier, the Rebel Alliance supported the workers of Geonosis in an uprising that saw the overthrowing of the monarchy, is that correct? Is it your opinion, Senator Organa, that citizens do not have the right to overthrow what they perceive to be a tyrannical government?"

"As for your comments with regards to the office of the Supreme Commander of the Military, I fail to see how they have any bearing on this hearing." Crassis said dryly and glanced to [member="Ater Notechis"] and [member="Faith Balor"] to see if they had any questions regarding the latest statements by Senator Organa.

[member="Alyesa Organa"]

"Allow me to be short and blunt - if it is in the view of this Committee that disrupting a system that has been around for thousands of years is acceptable - then you are in league with the Prime Minister and are not representing the interests of the Republic." She'd gesture. "In-fact, it is my opinion now that the Republic is nothing more than a name of it's former self and will continue to become an example as the Old once did and eventually turn into the Empire, ran by a tyrannical leader in it's own right." She gestured towards Crassis. "Paranoia has increased your seclusion and segregation of elements within the Republic - why is that?" She waved a hand. "I don't care to hear your answer Senator, you don't choose the represenative, nor does the Prime Minister - the planet does."

She gestured to [member="Faith Balor"]. "As Princess of Alderaan, I implore you to invoke our right to sovereignty and neutrality and take Alderaan out of this farce government - this failure of a democracy before it is too late." She'd look back to @Mark Crasis and [member="Ater Notechis"]. "The Galactic Republic is no longer recognized as the central government for the planet of Ranklinge - heanceforth. You allowed democracy to die in such a theatrical, and deplorable manner. You can continue to follow the lead of this terrorist until the day comes when troops are kicking your door in to make you answer for an invisible crime you did not commit." She shook her head. "I will not and as of this moment I have nothing further to say as it's been apparent from the start - neither of you had an interest in ensuring that Lasedri paid for her crimes, instead you wanted to bury the truth."

She'd toss down her datapad. "So be it - the information will be availible for 24 hours more, you have until then before it's leaked across the Galactic News Network - along with your false imprisonment of a Senator based on the accusations of a terrorist." She'd bow. "Good day, Senators."

Nothing more would be said - and nothing could be said. Alyesa would leave and be gone. Just like that.

Crassis watched with a bemused smile on his face as Organa let out her tirade. He wasn't impressed by it. The committee was here because of Organa, and yet with each question asked, rhetoric and no answers were given. Crassis waived aside the guards who moved to block Organa's exit and leaned forward for his comments to be recorded for the record.

"Allow the record to show that Alyesa Organa has left the committee meeting." Crassis said. "It is my recommendation that Alyesa Organa be stripped of her office, effective immediately. In this latest maneuver it is clear that she cares little for the welfare or wishes of her people." Crassis said.

"Recordings of this meeting are to be sent to Ranklinge and it is requested that they select a more suitable representative at their earliest convenience." Crassis said shaking his head. "The motion put forward by Alyesa Ogana to sever Ranklinge's ties with the Galactic Republic does not have the force of law and is null and void." Crassis said, wondering how it was the Senator thought she had the right to remove her planet from the Galactic Republic and he couldn't help but wonder if she had even bothered to ask her people if it was what they wanted.

Leaning back, Crassis turned to [member="Faith Balor"] and [member="Ater Notechis"]. "Any objections? Or anything to add?"
