DESCRIPTION
Cloud City Sentinels (CCS) is a private sector interpretation of the Jedi. While CCS isn't particularly avaricious, it tries to take a sensible financial approach that won't reduce its employees' future options to 'vow of poverty.' Do the job, do it well, avoid the Dark Side, get paid. Recruiting, vetting, and training are standardized, and those standards are high. CCS is not a place for whimsical mystics, grandiose Jedi Lords, solemn spiritual leaders, ardent pacifists, flighty apprentices, or hot tubs. It's a place for professionals.

Nevertheless, CCS happily serves any and all of the above by providing them with rigorous training courses and reliable backup in the field. The governments and charitable funds that support various large Jedi temples tend to have money to burn. CCS also makes the rounds of local independent governments whose troubles may not have attracted Jedi attention.

As a matter of insurance policy, CCS does not hire former Sith, no matter how squeaky-clean they are and who their friends and patrons might be. CCS understands that everyone has their moments of weakness. However, CCS takes a dim view of the Dark Side, and outright falling to the Dark Side is grounds for dismissal. CCS does not ignore criminal actions taken by its employees.

Most CCS employees consider themselves members of the broader Jedi Order. In fact, several serve as Jedi (typically Sentinels) full-time, and accept mission requests from CCS on the side. CCS also employs non-pacifist, Light-oriented members of other Force traditions, such as OPA Judges, Matukai, Gand Findsmen, and Kilian Rangers. CCS employees might wear generic light armor, but generally travel and operate on a low-profile plainclothes basis.

Any Force-sensitive who works for CCS has access to, and is expected to take full advantage of, standardized training. CCS training focuses on the Jedi fundamentals. CCS employees are expected to be able to focus longer, run faster, jump higher, push harder, heal more cuts, trick more minds, and lift more and heavier weights. CCS lightsaber training doesn't emphasize the classical forms or elaborate techniques. Instead, it centres on the Fast, Medium, and Strong styles of the ancient New Jedi Order, provides a solid foundation in the lightstaff and dual-blade fighting, and encourages the simultaneous use of a lightsaber and a pistol. CCS trainers approve of, and teach, Trakata.

CCS will happily provide any or all of this training to anyone except current Darksiders. Many visiting students-slash-clients go on to become full- or part-time employees if they can meet CCS' standards.

CCS doesn't attempt to be a one-stop shop. It maintains excellent agreements with marksmanship, piloting, and technical schools all throughout the Greater Javin, so its employees and clients can find professional training to compliment their Force skills.

CCS operates fairly closely with OPA commanders and with the Trade Spine League.

RATIONALE
Shira Varanin is a Jedi Knight but also a military veteran from a private sector background. She is far from alone. CCS was founded by Shira and other like-minded people on the theory that the galaxy had plenty of heroes but not quite enough professionals.
