The “false kyber” of Pamarthe, Cloudburst Stone was a material used in various traditional Pamarthen applications for over a thousand years. Originally thought to only be derived from Mhara horn, the crystal was found to be growing above ground as well in geodes. Mineral deposits that for centuries had been known roosting grounds for legendary creatures like the Pamarthen Drake and Greater Pamarthen Skyeel were found to have these deposits in abundance, spurring the development of new applications such as the Cloudburst Rifle and the Pamrathen Cloudburst Drive. Blue in color, the cloudburst stone had an extremely similar structure to that of the various kyber crystals used by Jedi in their lightsabers and was considered rarer than the kyber if only because it could only be found on Pamarthe. They could not be used in the construction of lightsabers without extreme modification as the power magnification of the crystal would cause them to explode, causing extreme burns, cuts, and occasionally amputations and death. As a result huge housings had to be made for them as well as special energy output vents, not unlike ancient lightsaber designs of the High Republic era. Even then the lightsaber’s blade would be unstable and prone to cortosis shortouts even when coming in contact with refined cortosis. Strangely, these downsides of the crystal didn’t affect it while it was in the water. It always produced a blue blade and because it was not a true kyber crystal could not be “bled” by a Sith. It was in essence a fake lightsaber crystal.
When used in other applications however such as shield generators or weapons it produced an energy field that lightsabers couldn’t cut through. In the case of its use in starships, it was considered widely to be the poor man's coaxium, causing a chain reaction with most sublight and repulsorlift engines that created a ludicrous speed boost for a short time. In weapons it created a powerful and unstable energy blast which the local Pamarthens used effectively in their Cloudburst Rifles, making them extremely deadly, if not cumbersome and unwieldy. The stone was still very fickle even outside of a lightsaber though and could cause catastrophic explosions and accidents which was one of the reasons why after the threat of the Pamarthen Drake was put to rest most Pamarthens hung up the rifle or treated it like an heirloom.
