  • Ostrine & heat sink components allow for effective suppressive fire
  • Very accurate
  • Electric shock to metallic armors
  • Able to utilize a power generator backpack and bipod
  • Unable to be reflected by lightsabers
Strengths:
  • Charric blaster bolts offer both thermal and kinetic damage, and carry enormous impact per bolt - especially against lightsabers or deflecting weapons.
  • Very accurate weapon, due to the improved firing systems of Charric weaponry compared to standard light repeater rifles.
  • Metallic armors receive an electric shock with each hit, capable of disrupting the wearer briefly if not protected against such damage.
  • Able to utilize a power generator backpack, which extends the firing capacity of the weapon considerably.
  • Charric bolts are unable to be reflected by lightsabers, resulting in increased difficulty defending when under fire from this type of weapon.
Weaknesses:
  • Lessened ammunition capacity compared to standard light repeater rifles, due to higher powered bolts.
  • Lessened maximum range compared to standard light repeater rifles, due to higher bolt particle dissipation over distance.
  • Insulated metallic armors will not be affected by electric shock per bolt, making that bolt attribute redundant.
  • Power generator backpack adds weight and further limits movement with the weapon.
  • Power generator requires recharge time once depleted, for several minutes, before extended firing use can continue.
  • Recoil is higher than standard light repeater rifles, due to kinetic discharge per bolt.
DESCRIPTION
A standard charric light repeater rifle created for use within the Chiss Ascendancy, which utilizes advanced maser-particle firing systems that fires blue beams, and includes additional cooling materials to better manage overheating. Unlike standard blaster weapons, the charric bolts offer increased thermal and kinetic damage, as well as electrical shock to non-insinuated metallic armors, and are unable to be reflected by lightsabers. Additionally, the enormous impact per bolt has a high potential for opponents defending with deflection capable weapons to be physically worn down with repeated attack, with some Jedi and Sith even outright losing their grasp on lightsabers.

Due to the improved nature of the bolts, the weapons accuracy is very high. Due to the higher particle and kinetic energy of each bolt, the effective range has been improved, but the ammunition capacity has been decreased - compared to light repeater rifles of a similar type. Also, the maximum range for a charric weapon is shorter than other standard repeater rifles, and this loss over distance can be dangerous if unaccounted for during combat, and should be kept in mind at all times by Chiss soldiers.

While the power packs offer only 20 shots, those are charric bolts, and have higher damage as a result. The real power of the CLR-01 comes to the fore when connected to a bipod and a power generator backpack. However, given the light repeater rifle is cumbersome to begin with, and requires specific training to use fully, adding a heavy backpack of around twenty-kilograms (40lbs) means even less movement speed and battlefield maneuverability for the wielder. The setup of weapon, bipod and generator can be done in around thirty seconds, allowing for a rapid weapon emplacement deployment solely due to being a light repeater variant; this allows for effective suppressive fire, against most infantry and light vehicles, utilizing the full-auto function to maximum effect. Additionally, once the pack is depleted, it requires at least several minutes to recharge, at which point it can be used again; it's prudent to note that, while the generator is charging, it doesn't require a connection to the weapon, allowing for power pack usage in the meantime.

All in all, the CLR-01 Chiss Charric Light Repeater Rifle is an effective supporting weapon capable of providing limited mobility fire, or greatly effective generator-assisted suppressive fire, for the soldiers of the Chiss Ascendancy.

Hi [member="Thorne"]! Thank you for your patience as I reviewed your submission. A really interesting submission! I have a few items to review with you before I can approve:

  • I'm not able to locate the image in the source link; have you edited one of the images at that link, or am I just missing it? If you have edited it, please indicate that you have in the source field (but keep the source link).
  • In the Wookieepedia, Charric weapons are stated to have a shorter range than their blaster counterparts, which would also apply to comparative optimal ranges (and you have already reflected this in your weakness about the lessened maximum range). For a light repeating blaster, the optimal range is 150 meters and under, and your submission indicates an optimal range of 180 meters. Understanding that your rifle is described as "accurate," this should be balanced out in your submission, and I think an optimal range of 120% of the light repeating blaster is pushing it. If a Charric is only as accurate as a light repeating blaster counterpart, I think that is already on the powerful side. I would recommend lowering the optimal range to be no more than 150 meters.
  • In your Technical Specifications section you list the ammunition capacity for the power pack to be 20 bolts, but in the description you indicate the power packs offer 25 shots. Please correct this discrepancy.
  • I would prefer if the language regarding people blocking the blade being 'worn down' to be made more subjective -- like 'might' and 'could' -- to recognize that in a collaborative writing environment like Chaos, the other writer is entitled to a say in how they would be effected by facing off against the weapon, and that differing species/dexterity levels/abilities may yield differing results.
Please tag me when you're ready for me to review. Thanks!

I've made adjustments to the power pack discrepancy (maintained 20 shots), adjusted the wording on the worn down to have 'high potential of', and added the edited by note.

However, I'd like to explain the reasoning for the improved accuracy range. The Canon maser tech (charric in Chiss) provides a more powerful Bolt than a standard blaster, by using thermal and kinetic energy (this also accounts for the wearing down thing). But, to maintain a close resemblance to Canon maser weapons, the higher damage has been balanced with less range (also Canon) .

So my notion is/was to approach charric weapons like this:

A stronger bolt results in a little longer precision range due to higher particle cohesion; but, because of the rapid particle breakdown beyond that range, the maximum range is affected.

And while I understand the original tech was pistols converted into rifles, we are 800 years developed in the galaxy setting, so I'm hoping that takes into account the Chiss developed methods to compare to other handheld weaponry during that time.

Hopefully that's a reasonable explanation for the precision range and max range drop off.

Hi @Thorne. Thanks for making your edits. I've reviewed your comments regarding the effective range, and I'm afraid I'm still not quite comfortable with maintaining an optimal range of 120% of the blaster counterpart to this weapon. The simple truth is, apart from the black-and-white description of its range drawbacks in the Wookieepedia article, from a practical, balancing standpoint a Charric weapon has some significant strengths vis a vis normal blaster rifles: heavy impact, difficulty deflecting the bolts with lightsabers, etc. The trade-off is that the range of these weapons doesn't compare with their blaster counterparts. Furthermore, canon tech from 800 years ago is treated with the same respect we give to submissions set in the current era due to the extended (four centuries) period of 'dark ages' where technology regressed substantially, which ended comparatively recently in our timeline.

If you'd like to tweak the range as suggested above, I will be pleased to take another look. You may also exercise your right to a 'second chance' review of your submission.
