His time before his service in the Galactic Alliance Defense Force was of little consequence, he managed a commission in the GADF's Army out of the academy on Corellia as an Infantry Lieutenant in 859, being assigned to a group tagged 'Raider Squadron' at the onset of Third Imperial Civil War, serving as a staff officer to the Jedi General Maynard Treicolt. He saw combat in the First Battle of Harnaidan, the Battle of Felucia, and the grueling joint Imperial/GADF campaign in the capital of Ziost on New Adasta. Colter played a critical role in the Wolfpack's combat operations and siege sustainment, allowing them to weather the offensive and defensive phases of the attack until a final Sith Imperial counter-offensive drove the Alliance forces to defeat at which then General Maynard Treicolt refused to call for the retreat of the Wolf Pack, the action costed the lives of most of the marines, totalling in a 90% casualty rate among those who remained at New Adasta and the eventually decommissioning of Maynard Treicolt and the Wolf Pack for their insubordination to the Commander-in-chief.
Darik was not spared. For his role in the refusal of orders at New Adasta, Colter Darik pleaded guilty to insubordination and gross negligence of command and with the command staff of the Galactic Alliance Navy citing 'loss in trust and judgment to continue to lead Marines', he was stripped of his commission as Captain, bumped back down to his equivalent enlisted service time rank of Corporal and sentenced to two years in military prison. When he was let free, Colter was given the option to null the remaining years of his contract or be promoted to Sergeant and transferred to Galactic Alliance Special Operations Command as a Pathfinder due to strategic needs of the Second Hyperspace War.
He re-enlisted, holding little other skill sets other than soldiering he decided his skillset was best kept to the current line of work. Participating mostly in counter-terrorism operations following the warbands of Mawites that polluted the Alliance borderlands, he was eventually assigned to an unconventional warfare unit that would 'officially' not operate under the Golden Starbird, but instead on behalf of the 'Rebel Alliance', a proxy insurgent group that would slip past political alignments in order to combat Sith and Imperial influence outside of Alliance space.
