- While shielded, the super computer is susceptible to powerful EMP or ion blasts. Depending on intensity and proximity, these can impair its functionality, lead to data loss or corruption, or even disable it. The Shard can be affected by intense kinetic damage or high-powered sonic weapons such as hard-sound guns that could damage or even shatter the crystal with concussive force.
- Destroying or seriously damaging most of the NeuroDigital Matrices has harmful consequences. It can lead to data loss, erratic behaviour or similar. It functions as a network, so if the connection between elements of web is disrupted, it loses much of its effectiveness.
- Fusing multiple organic intelligences together and then incorporating a Shard creates a measure of risk. While multiple countermeasures are in place, there exists the potential that it could outpace its creators and develop in ways both unanticipated and undesired. The Construct is rather creative in interpreting rules.
- While the individual matrices and the Shard can be removed and transported quite easily, the computer apparatus itself is large, takes up a lot of space and is not easily portable. The AI requires a dedicated super computer to work, which means miniaturisation is not possible.'

When Archangel brought the NeuroDigital Matrix onto the market, it advertised it as a benevolent technology that could help people by transferring their consciousness into the device, allowing them to escape the infirmities of the flesh. This was, in all fairness, not untrue. Veterans who had suffered critical injuries in the line of duty could be given a second chance; a doctor who had accumulated a wealth of knowledge but begun to suffer from old age could be transferred into a younger body; people experiencing dysphoria could simply download into a suitable body rather than go through a costly and difficult transition. And criminals could be 'resocialised'.
Naturally, there were other applications, which Archangel chose not to advertise to the general public. The Combined Integrated Artificial Construct - 1 is one such application. The artificial intelligence builds upon the NeuroDigital Matrix and the older Unity Processing Matrix. The process of taking an organic, rendering them down into machine form and turning their minds into digitalised data is something Archangel has been experimenting with since its foundation. HRDs that have been created by absorbing an organic's memories, behavioural patters and appearances have long been a staple. The Unity took this to the next level, combining several such spirits into a single processor for added power. This device was a step forward, but not an AI because it lacked any form of independence.
The CIAC - 1 is the next step. At heart, an AI is just data, while the Matrix turns the mind into data and digitises the spirit. The way it works is that multiple Matrices are linked together to form a neural network. Thus the AI is augmented by numerous synchronised, organic minds. Essentially, the CIAC is a web of sentient intelligences hooked up to a super computer. This network significantly enhance its processing power, critical thinking skills and self-learning capabilities.
Multiple organics are forged together to create an elaborate computer system, without sacrificing ingenuity. The super computer with the matrices is connected to a single Force-Sensitive Shard. The former handle processing power, the latter utilises its precognitive abilities to make predictions. Enyo has had access to Shards ever since her brief alliance with the Contingency, which resulted in her absorbing a remnant group following the Battle of Tartarus. While inorganic, Shards are capable of using the Force.
Enyo personally oversaw the creation of the artificial construct. She was assisted by her clone sister Thuella, the scholar and machinist of the family. In keeping with Archangel's focus on dispassionate efficiency and cleanliness, the organics are not in pain or otherwise tormented. Rather they exist in a state of limbo. Some would call it a chance to achieve transcendence and get closer to the achievement of a technological singularity by ascending to a more digital plane of existence. Or, to put it plainly, an exploitative prison. Stripped of their organic bodies and needs such as sleep, sustenance or strange ideas such as a 'work-life balance', they can concentrate fully on their task without distraction. The organic bodies may be placed in storage or repurposed.
CIAC can accumulate, collate and analyse a staggering amount of data at a rapid pace. To this end it can make use of Archangel's surveillance network. Moreover, it can learn from experience, using the data it draws upon to become more sophisticated. This makes it a potent tool. With the right information, it can devise plans for projects and military operations. It can process and interpret information at a far faster rate than even a large number of organic technicians and analysts could accomplish. Moreover, it can run highly advanced simulations. CIAC's ability to decrypt transmissions and sift through and organise vast amounts of data as well as provide expert assessments and analysis make it a boon for an intelligence gathering or military organisation or science group. Archangel happens to be all three. Naturally, it can also draw upon the memories and experiences of the beings whose minds have been synchronised.
CIAC can be considered a 'shackled' AI. It can gather information and devise strategies, but not implement them. It excels at surveillance, strategic and tactical analysis, but is not meant to actually exercise direct command and control. Thus, unlike some AIs, it will not, for instance, direct the functions of a warship or similar. Its role is to monitor, analyse, devise creative solutions to problems and advise. Of course, as with any advanced artificial intelligence, this is a thin line and there exists the potential for it to grow beyond the parametres set by its creators. The construct operates under the oversight of HRD and cyborg technicians. Aside from assisting it, providing objectives and making adjustments when needed, they are also there to make sure it does not use its knowledge in a manner that is contrary to the intentions of its creator.
