Common Empire

Kay sat in her quarters in The Free Lady enroute to Kamino. She sipped her tea, reading one of her mystery holonovels to distract her. It kept her from worrying. The last time that she was in the presence of [member="Tanomas Graf"] and members of the Galactic Empire was during failed peace talks that took place on Monastery. The man was attacked by a Mandalorian, one of the many that were also present. Much to the dismay of the hosts and some of the others present, the talks ended soon after. Some of the parties had already left and nothing was ever finalized. There was too much posturing going on while Kay and [member="Veiere Arenais"] just sat there as spectators. It was decided between them that they would continue to gain alliances in the same way that they've always done. Individually and personally.

And that's what led her on this journey to Kamino. She wanted to speak with the Galactic Empire herself. To dress for the ocassion, she chose a style that better fit meeting those of a more Imperial nature. She carried a small blaster that was holstered within the sleeve of her left arm. Her wedding rings both let others know that she was 'off the market', but also they let her keep in contact with her husband. Should there be trouble, she'd be able to reach him easier. The only other protection that she had was her bodyguards, [member="Rex Cruger"] and [member="Harvey"] , the latter of which was also her advisor.

Kay set down her holonovel and finished her tea as she felt The Free Lady exit hyperspace. They should be almost there. It all was dependent upon how extensive the security was. Already her pilot was announcing their arrival and waiting for verification.

She got up from her chair and stretched before pressing down the jacket of her dress. "Almost showtime. Let's just hope that this meeting turns out as positive as all the others." The number of allies that Commenor had was vast. She had hoped to add more today.

Harvey

It's What's Inside That Counts
Harvey stood to the side of Lady Kay, hands clasped in front of him. He wasn't in his usual business attire; instead, the android opted for a grey uniform that was pressed and smoothed to perfection. Elsa wasn't with him on this venture. The companion had chosen to stay in Commenor for the moment in order to rest.

For a brief second, Harvey thought. Kamino, the home of the Galactic Empire. The android wasn't sure what to think of them. He certainly admired their military force, but their diplomacy and peacekeeping missions left a lot to be desired. No matter. His personal opinions and analyses, unless asked for, were his own. The advisor would do his job and do it well.

"I do hope the Empire is willing to entertain diplomacy. They aren't the friendliest of the lot."

Not long after the Free Lady reverted from hyperspace and subsequently send a transmission did they garner a response. A feminine voice with a thick Imperial accent would come over the comms; "Commenori vessel 'Free Lady', you are authorized for arrival at the Imperial citadel on Tipoca City, executive landing platforms. Please make your way through the shield gate and you will be directed from there." She alerted them, before closing the channel.

Once the ship would have arrived at the shield gate, a massive, wheel-like space station surrounded by several groups of Imperator and Victory-class Star Destroyers that sailed gracefully through the void of space on predetermined patrol paths. The space station served literally as a gatekeeper, creating a large gap in the planet-wide deflector shield, which further exemplified the blue orb that was Kamino. A TIE escort would accompany them the rest of the way to the monolithic citadel.

The Imperial Grand Moff rubbed his temple, attempting to sooth a headache that had been persisting for hours. He set down the datapad that was currently displaying army garrisons in Oversector Tempest and prepared to pour himself a glass of whiskey until the blast door into his grandiose office, an upgrade compared to his old one, opened and revealed the novatrooper commander. "Sir, the delegation from Commenor has arrived out of hyperspace and are being directed to the citadel." The commander stated, his rifle slinged over his shoulder.

Tanomas nodded "Very well, I want two squads of novatroopers on the landing pad, inform Emperor Kardal, and summon Warlord Morcus and Commander Kayrce." He acknowledged, grabbing his trench coat and fur cap to protect himself from the rain, leaving the office and heading for the pad.

Kay looked over to [member="Harvey"] , noting his apparent disbelief in what she was doing. "If I can convince the First Order to have good relations with us, then there's a chance that I can do the same here. It's better to try than to think of 'what ifs'. And hopefully arriving in a diplomatic vessel as opposed to the Queensguard will show that we aren't a threat."

The pilot sent his acknowledgement and brought The Free Lady towards the shield gate. He used the ships comms to signal Kay, [member="Rex Cruger"] and Harvey. ~M'Lady, we've been granted clearance. You may want to come and look at this.~

Kay looked to the two and then made her way over to the cockpit. She sat down in the co-pilot's chair, her eyes on what lay ahead of them. The Star Destroyers patrolling the capital planet were intimidating enough, reminding her of First Order space. Yet what caught her attention more was the shield station. It was far more advanced than what they had surrounding Commenor. "Amazing...I can only hazard a guess as to how much of an assault it could take before it ruptures." She watched as her pilot brought them nearer to it and flew through the center as instructed. TIE fighters quickly appeared on either side of them, providing both an escort and to ensure that they didn't deviate from their path. The rain hit almost the instant that they broke into the clouds, it's drops thicker than any rain that fell on Commenor. "Well if this doesn't dampen anyone's spirits, nothing will."

When the executive platform came into view, the lines of troops in formation could be seen. Kay waited until the Free Lady touched down before she got up from the chair. She looked to her pilot. "Power her down and wait for us. I don't expect that we'll be here long, but it'd be bad form to keep her running. And if inspectors come, let them snoop around. There shouldn't be anything on board that they'd have a problem with." The pilot nodded and did as he was instructed. Kay was glad that she didn't have Terrac for this trip. His grouchy attitude and witty remarks would more than likely get them into trouble.

As the ramp was lowered, Kay headed to her quarters first, picking up a midsized wooden box that was dark in colour, engraved and polished. She also grabbed her umbrella, something that she would've forgotten had Elsa not reminded her. Appearances were everything in situations like this, so she handed the box to Rex, while handing the umbrella to Harvey. "Hope you don't mind. I'd normally carry it all myself, but..." Kay let the sentence hang there, hoping that they understood her meaning.

After taking a breath and ensuring that her Force signature was shrunken down to that of a small tree nut, she stepped out of the Free Lady and into view of the squadrons there to greet them.

Morcus himself quickly received word that his presence would be require at the landing pad, quickly sliding on a long, hooded black cloak to protect himself and his attire from being soaked by the rain. As he proceeded out of his chambers through the corridors of the Citadel towards the landing pad, he was tailed by his personal escort, a pair of Imperial Shadow Guardsman, each wearing a long black cloak over their armour and wielding long lightsaber pikes.

Eventually exiting the facility, he strolled through the rainy exterior platforms of Tipoca City until he finally arrived at the landing pad, moving to stand beside Graf and the delegation of Kaminoan and Imperial officials who'd arrived aswell. "I trust you had good reason to bring me out here in the rain, old friend?", he said with a smirk, peering up at Lady Kay's ship as it arrived. Upon realizing whom their guest was, he quickly bowed his head. "My lady, I bid thee welcome to Kamino.", the Grand Inquisitor said politely.

Walking out of the bathroom he looked at [member="Lady Kay"] and [member="Harvey"], he glanced between the two of them. "What I washed my hands, where are we going?" He asked before he took a second and remembered, "Oh yeah that place, well.... this'll be fun." He said drying off his hands and putting the towel back before walking up to them.

As they finally began to make their way to the planet he heard the pilot say they had received clearance and they began to descend down to the watery planet below, he wanted to go swimming.

He began to check his suit looking it over with his eyes and then having a system diagnostics of it through his HUD. After everything checked out he grabbed his lightsaber and turned it on listening to the woosh as it opened and just stared at the form as it hummed softly in the ears of everyone on the ship. The ship shook a little as they descended to the planet below, but his eyes were focused on his quick practice routine, keeping his feet steady and his form solid as he went through the motions slowly, stage to stage flowing flawlessly as he practiced. He had mastered the form of training quickly before any mission. As they began the landing sequence he turned off his blade and hung it on his belt and made his way to prepare for their exit.

Hearing Kay's warning to the pilot he took a quick note of that in his head. He also could see the lines of troop waiting on the platform, someone was compensating for something. he hung on to the archway as they touched down on the platform and waited for Kay to make her way towards them so they could begin their procession down towards the men and the man they were meeting here today, some [member="Tanomas Graf"], he hadn't ever heard of him before then, but he wasn't up on galactic politics.

Before she came to them she took a stop in her room, when she came out she had a umbrella which she handed to Harvey then she walked to him and handed him the wooden box, he took it and nodded to her as he made sure that he held it in a presentable manor. As she apologized he put a hand out quickly and gave her a sideways glance, she did not have to apologize to him. Today he would be the silent protector, unlike his normal role of keeping her spirits up.

He remembered before they stepped out to shrink his force signature into the size of a small diamond and stood behind Kay as they made their way off the Free Lady and into the view of the squadrons on the platform.

Harvey took the umbrella and glanced at it, then opened it.

"Of course. I don't mind at all."

The android did mind a bit. But appearances were appearances. What would it say about Commenor if the queen had to hold her own umbrella?

Holding the umbrella under Kay, Harvey stepped out with her, but not before giving a slight nod as a greeting to Rex.

The rain pattered harshly against the old man's face, the droplets running down his wrinkles and dampening his beard. He walked forward with the detachment of Imperial novatroopers, the howling wind causing his trench coat to whip in all directions.

Tanomas stopped before the delegation, his honor guard going on to secure the rest of the pad, as you never knew who had their eyes pointed up there with a pair of electrobinoculars, or worse, a sniper rifle. Returning the smirk to his old friend and colleague, the Grand Moff opened his lips to speak, his mustache ruffling the usual way.

"Your Highness; Welcome to the Imperial Capital of Kamino. I trust you had no trouble along the way?" He queried loudly, having to talk over the storm, giving a deep bow to the woman. "But before we begin our talks, I must insist we move inside, the planet and the people may be nice but the weather is absolutely dreadful." He stated amusingly.

Grabbing his hat so that it stayed on his head, he beckoned for the queen and her cohorts to follow him into the bright-white halls of the building. "Emperor Kardal requested that I give you a brief tour of the facilities, as well as present an offer along the way that will affect you and your people for the best, I can assure you. Afterwards we will meet His Majesty for a spot of tea." Graf informed, giving a small smile to the her.

Kay approached, her hands holding the skirt of her dress to keep the wind from betraying her modesty. The gusts were stronger than what she was expecting, so she didn't dress for it. And despite the umbrella being held by [member="Harvey"] , she was still getting wet. Not his fault of course and she ignored it, bowing her head as [member="Baron Morcus"] greeted her first.

[member="Tanomas Graf"] approached next, his honourguard passing by [member="Rex Cruger"], Harvey and herself. Kay didn't look back, but she expected that they were doing their job to be sure that her ship and pilot weren't a threat. After the failed peace talks earlier, she didn't blame him for being cautious.

She smiled and bowed her head in greeting to the man. "Thank you for receiving me. Our trip here was a good one." Kay heartily agreed to move inside, so she followed the two into the building, keeping pace with Graf. Once the drier, warmer air enveloped them, she let go of her skirt and clasped her hands in front of her. The harsh white light blinded her at first, in comparision to the storm outside. But within moment she could see more clearly, all the while listening to Grand Mof as he hinted at an offer. "A tour would be lovely, thank you. It will give us a chance to dry off a bit before we see your Emperor. Tea also sounds lovely." Graf certainly did his homework. Not only was tea her little addiction, but it would also take the chill out of her bones.

As they walked out of the ship they began to be hit by rain from the sides and he held back a laughter as [member="Lady Kay"] was drenched before she could even ask for a scene change. [member="Harvey"] was doing his job but it was no use of course to the planet of Kamino. Rex just walked casually as his suit of armor made it so he didn't have to worry about getting wet, something that he did hate.

As [member="Tanomas Graf"] made his way over to them Rex did a quick scan of the man, he didn't seem very intimidating physically by any means but he had a gut feeling that his mind was the most dangerous part about him.

As the two began to talk he continued to keep his head on a swivel constantly looking from one person to the next making sure nothing funny was happening as he kept an ear on the conversation happening before him. As they made their way inside he kept in stride right behind Kay and when they made their way into the building his visor made the transition effortless and easy for him so he wouldn't be caught by surprise at anything. He listened to their conversation and almost swore, she was getting more of her addiction, did all these diplomats want to start wars for tea? The saddest part about his thought is that he could believe it.

Tanomas commenced the tour by beginning to walk at a leisure pace through the bright halls of the facility.

"Kamino has always been of great importance to us and our ancestors. Data that we collected from Hypori ascertains the fact that the millions of cloning vats on this planet were used to create the elite force that made up the Grand Army of the Old Republic some eight centuries ago." He retailed

"Those clones were each individual fighting machines that were unmatched, although the countless battle droids employed by the Separatist Alliance gave them a run for their credits. Divulged from the genetic makeup of Jango Fett, a notorious bounty hunter, they were the perfect soldiers, it was just a shame of how short their lifespan was; as they aged at double the rate of a human." At this point, they entered a corridor with clear windows that gave them a view of a massive complex, with several hundred clones below in the process of being grown in circular vats.

"Now, in the infancy of the Empire. After we acquired Void Station from then-Count Morcus, we set our eyes on the blue orb of Kamino, because we knew that we could not bolster our army fast enough to counter the Rebellion or worse, the Galactic Alliance." Graf informed, looking over his shoulder with a minor grin on his features. "During the negotiations, we discovered that the cloners here were in possession of an intact sample of Fett's DNA. We were...ecstatic..."

They came up to a wide doorway that opened into a small balcony. "The Republic had their clone troopers, the Empire had their stormtroopers, but we, we have both." The Grand Moff spoke softly, stopping just short of the edge of the railing. Thousands of Imperial Stormtroopers marched in tight formations, having acquired their gear after coming fresh out of months of grueling training, every soldier stopped and faced in the group's direction, throwing up their arms in an patriotic Imperial salute.

"Magnificent...aren't they..."

Kay followed along beside [member="Tanomas Graf"] as he started the tour, beginning with a history lesson. She knew of it, had read the stories while growing up and was reminded of it when she was a Senator for the Republic. They had clones working for them too. For a time there was a protest movement as well, all of it a bid to have clones treated like everyone else and not just as war machines. She of course had done her best to treat everyone with respect, and that included both clones and droids.

As they entered the windowed corridor, she looked down upon the clones being 'grown'. Sure she's seen holo displays of such things, but never had she seen it with her own eyes. Some of the clones twitched or moved while others were still. In some way, it was almost horrifying. Kay kept her expression as mild as possible as she didn't want her face to betray her thoughts. She turned her focus to the Grand Moff, listening to him as he continued on.

Already they were reaching the balcony. She stepped onto it, placing her hands on the railing and gazing at the soldiers below her in awe. "Incredible..." How many thousands were there? Tens of thousands? It was hard for her to guess. She glanced over her shoulder to [member="Rex Cruger"] and [member="Baron Morcus"] briefly before looking out once again to the clones in formations below them. "...And how quickly do these clones age? Half as quickly? Or at a normal pace?" Kay knew some of what was going on here. He was showcasing some of their power, giving her hints of what she could be up against if they were to become enemies. Fortunately that wasn't the case for right now.

It made her wonder what his offer would be.

[member="Kayrce"]

As the snore fest began he started to look at the troops scanning them and checking them over seeing them as they were and what they could do, they definitely had good armor and good weaponry, and he didn't have a doubt that they were good and effective fighters. He would've been surprised at clones if they weren't in the first known mass-production clone facility in the galaxy. It was still very interesting to see a faction use these kinds of troopers for army use again after so long.

His brows furrowed as they made their way to the cloning chambers were the clones were being clones, it didn't seem right, or look right, but it wasn't the must inhumane thing he had ever seen, which was the sad part about it. These people, clone or not would never get the chance to choose for themselves besides a tactical situation, it made him sad to see it, but he didn't speak of it, it was not his place.

The part that sickened him the most was what his employer, [member="Lady Kay"], thought of the mass armies of clones, Incredible he thought in his head, they truly were but he thought someone like her could see the immoralities of this, but apparently no one cared anymore, and what could he do or say, nothing. He sighed softly under his breathe as he tried to let it go but he couldn't it stuck with him, the thought that these people would never get a proper life, only life of servitude and death, that's all they were made to do, they were like living breathing tools with faces that resembled everyone else around him.

Graf's lips curled into a smile, an all-knowing smile that perhaps a grandfather would've given, "The clones still retain their aging rate, twice that of our own, it's a sacrifice that the cloners 'must make' in order to create the greatest army in the galaxy. And no, while they were bred for service we do not force them to do such, if one wants to leave then one can leave and live out their life how they wish it, contrary to what you may believe." He divulged, darting his eyes between the members of the delegation.

"The First Order recently acquired an army of eighteen million clones, the ones that had served the Galactic Republic. Truth be told I am amazed at how they find the time away from warring the Alliance to set up 'outposts' on worlds near our space..." Tanomas uttered, a slight amount of poison in his words "I have considered letting our isolationism drop somewhat, by offering Commenor a portion of our clone armies to serve as peacekeepers or however you wish to use them. While I hold a resentment for letting our tech fall into the hands of others, even our allies, these are not ships or weapons, they're soldiers, and some of the most loyal at that."

He waved his arm out at the sight of the assembled stormtroopers before them, seeing if the Queen would accept.

Kay nodded. Twice the aging rate didn't quite seem fair to the clones, but it was just the way things were, the way that they were created. Whether or not the cloned troopers here were free to go where they pleased if they wanted remained to be seen. Yet she wasn't about to dig into it to find out.

As [member="Tanomas Graf"] spoke of the First Order and 18 million clones, both of her eyebrows raised. It was a far higher number than she remembered when she worked for the Republic. But it didn't surprise her that she was kept out of the loop.

The small bite in the Grand Moff's words at the mention of outposts. He probably meant the Embassies, although Kay was uncertain as to how many the First Order had and where. Although Commenor had no ties or communications with the Galactic Alliance, it did have a trade agreement with the First Order. "The hyperlanes and trade routes are what makes my corner of space attractive to other galactic powers. That and our pacts of non-aggression and neutral stance."

The Grand Moff made his offer. She looked out at the troopers below, all standing in perfect formation, almost as though they were waiting for something. Was it her acceptance? Kay turned her attention to Graf. "Any number of cloned soldiers would be a very generous offer. But I must ask, what would you be wanting in return?" She wasn't accepting anything yet. People don't just hand over soldiers as a welcoming gift. There had to be a catch. And so she was remaining cautious.

Graf had been waiting for this, "You see...This region of Wild Space that the Empire currently inhabits is rich in raw materials that can be processed into metal and other alloys that have become paramount in the construction of the Imperial War Machine, as well as food from several of our worlds that specialize in agriculture." He began "But that can only get us so far as a government, I am certain our civilians would not like to live in bland, duracrete complexes, as It is in no way an improvement on their lives away from war."

"A nearby mercantile world, Manda, remains out of our reaches for the time being, only because the trade route would suffer with the proprietors of the hyperlane, the Silver Jedi Order and the Galactic Alliance, placing embargoes on an Imperial-controlled star system." At this point, Tanomas clasped his hands behind his back and began lightly pacing "Therefore I would like to open a trade route to Commenor, its strategic position as a hub, for luxury goods to begin flowing more rapidly into our region from the Core and Inner Rims, so that the Imperial citizens can live in comfort rather than something you'd see in the First Order or the One Sith."

He turned once again to face the Queen "But there is one other thing. Having relations with Commenor would act as...say...diplomatic security between us and the other galactic powers. You would not act as a military ally, I can assure you, but I wish to have Commenor as a 'buffer' between the nations that we are at war with and us, as well as a common friend should we open channels with others involved with you." Graf spoke truthfully, hoping that what he said wasn't too blunt.

Kay listened as [member="Tanomas Graf"] told her of what exports the Galactic Empire had. It all seemed well and good, sustainable even. Yet there was something missing. The Grand Moff touched on it then, the homes of which their people lived in weren't diverse enough to keep everyone comfortable and happy. Embargoes placed by two of the Galaxies largest governments have hindered them. So far Commenor was lucky to not suffer the same fate. Perhaps it was merely by the luck of their location. Or it was the fact that they were neutral.

He made his offer then. Yet it wasn't exactly simple. He had done his homework, knowing that there were Embassies on Commenor from all sides, but not all governments were represented. Yet. Kay's system and firm hold on neutrality was working, despite what others might think. Those people were too blind by war and hate. She tried to keep an open mind and to see things from all sides.

Kay looked up to the man. "Your request for a new trade route through Commenor is granted. The mapping of it will need to be discussed in further detail. Embargoes never work. It's the every day citizen that suffers, instead of the very people that it is meant to punish." She glanced to the others nearby before turning her attention back to the Grand Moff. "And as for us being a 'buffer' between the Galactic Empire and others, we are prepared for it. I would suggest that you open an Embassy in Chasin City. Our newly constructed Senate Hall would also be able to hold an office for you, should you wish for that instead. At the moment we aren't allied with everyone, but that could change. So far there has been no tension between the Embassies on Commenor which I hope is the way that it remains. If we can help deter war through negotiations, I would never turn down the opportunity."

So far the Galactic Alliance had yet to reach out to them and vice versa. But that could change at any time. People had approached Kay more than once on creating a new Republic. But she has held back, taking it one step at a time. The Galaxy wasn't ready for a new Republic just yet.

"Excellent!" Graf beamed, nodding his head in thanks towards the Queen. A trade route for the Empire, it would be perfect, it would allow them to secure Manda without the interference of the hypocritical Silver Jedi and Alliance, but first they would have to take Tatooine to stem down pirating in the sector as well as deal with the remnants of those infernal rebel cells. "Ah well, enough with our offers. These lads need to go through their wargames with the droids, old Separatist relics from the Clone Wars." Tanomas casually mentioned "I'm certain that His Majesty shan't be kept waiting for too long."

Emperor Kardal would've been occupied with the massive galaxy map in the throne room of the Imperial citadel when they arrived, the spiral that they lived in moving animatedly in the shimmer of its blue hologram. He was currently magnified on the Rishi Maze, where the Empire was currently located; They would capture that region, and then the rest of Wild Space from their throneworld of Kamino. Turning around, a smile would soon envelop the monarch's wrinkled features as he began to walk towards them. Reginald Kardal was his name, he was the head of the state that ruled next to Graf, who was the head of the government.

"Your Highness, a pleasure to finally meet someone of your influence and beauty." The old emperor affirmed gently, reaching out to grasp her hand and bring it up to his face in a gesture of courtesy.

"And we wouldn't want the tea to get cold either."Kay bowed her head with a small smile to [member="Tanomas Graf"] as it seemed as though everything was going well for both parties involved. Acquiring such a high number of Stormtroopers was quite unexpected. She obviously didn't arrive on a ship large enough to bring them back. But then there was the question of where to put them. Should they go to Commenor? Or one of the other worlds in her care like Sev Tok? Given that their loyalty was undetermined at this moment, it might be better to keep them away from valuable strategic targets, just in case.

The Galactic Empire was being very gracious, but just as with other governments, some had underlaying motives to their actions. The First Order were only using their alliance with Commenor purely to secure a trade route. When she was abducted and cries for help came from her officials, no ally came to provide aid. Only close friends. So they knew then where their value lay. To close a trade route off might only invite trouble where they had otherwise avoided it.

Kay was led to meet the Emperor, something that she didn't quite expect. She figured that there would just be excuses as to why she couldn't see him, but instead she was brought right to him. She bowed her head as he approached, offering him a polite smile as he greeted her with flattery. Kay placed her hand in his outstretched palm. "The pleasure is all mine, Your Majesty. I must say that your people have been most gracious and generous. It's nice to see that the weather outside haven't dampened their spirits nor soured their mood. I trust that you're in good health?"

The monarch continued to smile, glad to hear of the Empire's generosity from the Queen "Quite so, my Lady. One of the perks of being at the most reputable cloning centers in the Galaxy is that the healthcare is unrivaled, and it makes that all the more sweeter when you can share it with your people as well." Reginald stated, bringing the delegation from the throne room into a small receiving room off to the side.

Located inside would be a small, round table that looked like it would comfortably fit them all, featuring a small assortment of cakes and other foodstuffs. Emperor Kardal would pull out of a seat for [member="Lady Kay"] while he himself sat down nearby, watching as several droids carrying trays appeared around them. "I had the pleasure of importing some Sapir tea from Bakura, as I had heard some rumors that it was your favorite. I myself am a fan of Tarine, but always prefer something stiffer." He informed, turning to face the Queen while the droids poured the tea.
