  • Description: The Commonwealth Diplomatic Service is a crucial arm of the government dedicated to managing diplomatic relations with other nations, organizations, and factions across the galaxy. Its primary purpose is to safeguard the interests of the Dosuunian Commonwealth and its member nations, promote peaceful cooperation, and advance the Commonwealth's goals in the broader galactic community. This organization falls under the purview of the Secretary-General of Political Affairs.
GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION
  • Headquarters: Passeri, Crytal Nest [Passeri, will be subbed later]
  • Domain: The Commonwealth, so far includes:
  • Notable Assets: Its notable assets lie in its network of diplomatic missions, embassies, consulates, and liaison offices established across member planets and key galactic regions. These diplomatic outposts serve as vital hubs for promoting interstellar relations, facilitating negotiations, and fostering diplomatic dialogue between the Dosuunian Commonwealth and other galactic entities.

Each diplomatic mission is strategically located to maximize diplomatic outreach and engagement, ensuring effective representation and advocacy for Commonwealth interests. While these diplomatic posts may vary in size and scope, they collectively form the backbone of the CDS's operational infrastructure, enabling the organization to fulfill its diplomatic mandate and advance the Commonwealth's diplomatic agenda on the galactic stage.
SOCIAL INFORMATION
  • Hierarchy: The organizational breakdown for the Commonwealth Diplomatic Service is a little different than the traditional Commonwealth organization. Within the CDS there are approximately four different paths that someone can take. The first is of course the direct path of a Diplomatic Officer. The other three paths follow Cultural Affairs, Political Affairs and Economic Development. Each one plays a key role in ensuring the CDS’s mission to advance the Commonwealth’s interests and promote stability, prosperity and cooperation throughout the Unknown Regions. The chart below provides a look into the ‘rank structure’ of the CDS.

All members begin as trainees, and once they’ve decided on a path they are locked in for the next three years. The trainee period is roughly one year after that one period is up; they must decide on their path, or they can be recycled back through the trainee period. Trainees are allowed to be recycled once, at the end of that second trainee period. They will be separated from the CDS if they have not chosen a path.

  • The Diplomatic Service path has one sub-path and it is designed for those who wish to procure more long-term assignments with various embassies throughout the Commonwealth, and the greater Unknown Regions area. This is the “Embassy” sub-path, and can help those who wish to become Ambassadors. However, becoming an Ambassador is at the discretion of Her Majesty, the High Commissioner, the Director of Diplomatic Services and the Secretary-General of Political Affairs.

    • To become an Ambassador one must first apply, which requires at least fifteen years of service within the CDS. Three letters of recommendations from supervisors and mentors must be obtained, and from there the Committee (composing of deputy directors and directors within the CDS) makes their choice. That choice and a backup choice are sent to the Secretary-General of Political Affairs, the chosen applicant and backup applicant (neither knows which is which) are to go before the Board (that is the entire Secretariat).

After this interview process, the results, and applications are sent to the High Commissioner who then makes their recommendation to Her Majesty. Her Majesty then makes her decision (usually on the recommendation, however not always). Should Her Majesty reject both the chosen applicant and the backup, then the process for that ambassadorial seat begins again with new applicants. The chosen and backup must wait a two-year period before applying again.
  • The Directors and deputy-directors are appointed by the Secretary-General of Political Affairs, and are vetted through a confirmation process involving at least two if not all three legislative bodies of the Commonwealth. At any time Her Majesty may dismiss them.
  • Membership: [IC] To become a member of the organization, individuals must undergo a rigorous selection process that includes academic qualifications, language proficiency, diplomatic skills assessment, and background checks. There is no formal initiation or ritual, but new members receive orientation and training upon joining the service.

Diplomats are expected to carry out various missions, including representing the Commonwealth in diplomatic negotiations, fostering international cooperation, promoting trade and cultural exchange, and providing consular assistance to citizens abroad. To prove their skill and worthiness, diplomats must demonstrate proficiency in diplomacy, negotiation, communication, and problem-solving. They are evaluated based on their performance in diplomatic missions, their ability to build relationships with foreign counterparts, and their contributions to achieving Commonwealth diplomatic objectives.

Marriage into the diplomatic service is not common, but family connections or prior diplomatic experience may enhance an individual's candidacy. Approval for joining the service is granted by the Director of Diplomatic Services or designated officials.

To join the Commonwealth Diplomatic Service, individuals can apply through formal recruitment processes advertised by the government or seek nomination from diplomatic academies or institutions. Applicants undergo a series of assessments, interviews, and evaluations to determine their suitability for diplomatic service. Successful candidates receive training and are appointed to diplomatic positions based on their qualifications and experience.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
The Commonwealth Diplomatic Service (CDS) was established in 882 ABY, concurrent with the formation of the Commonwealth and the drafting of its constitution. Its inception was a response to the need for a dedicated diplomatic corps to represent the interests of the Commonwealth in galactic affairs. Former Grand Moff Ariel Yvarro, a prominent stateswoman and key architect of the Commonwealth's governance structure, spearheaded the creation of the CDS.

The CDS was founded with the overarching goal of fostering positive diplomatic relations with other sovereign states and entities across the galaxy. Its modus operandi revolves around diplomacy, negotiation, and conflict resolution to advance the Commonwealth's interests and promote peace and stability.

One of the pivotal events tied to the creation of the CDS was the signing of the Commonwealth's constitution, which enshrined the principles of diplomacy, cooperation, and mutual respect among member states. This foundational document laid the groundwork for the CDS to operate as the primary diplomatic arm of the Commonwealth.

From its inception, the CDS has played a crucial role in representing the Commonwealth's interests on the galactic stage, negotiating treaties, mediating disputes, and facilitating international cooperation. Its diplomats are trained to navigate complex political landscapes, forge alliances, and advocate for the Commonwealth's values and objectives.

Over the years, the CDS has evolved and expanded its scope, adapting to the changing dynamics of galactic politics and the Commonwealth's growing influence. Today, it remains a cornerstone of the Commonwealth's foreign policy apparatus, upholding the principles of diplomacy, integrity, and service to the greater good.
