Community / International Forum?

I'm a member of a James Bond fan forum, where discussion of films, books, games etc takes place. There is also a area called 'International Events' and it is a header, like The Codex or Roleplay here, broken into numerous forums.

As I love the RP base here, I also feel the community is something special. I've met lots of people here from the Americas, the Europes, the Asias and the Australias and beyond. However I note that as a community, it's good to have a chance to share country / continental Star Wars and maybe even writing related events, meet-ups, conventions etc.

The forum headers would probably cater for the bigger majority of countries, but no one would be generally missed out, for example:

Australia and New Zealand

Great Britain and Europe

United States of America

Other World Regions

...or something like that. Just an example.

Initially it's nice to meet people here from your country but with the amount of posts and others threads you soon forget or lose track of who knows what and who etc, so what do you think of a 'Chaos International Community' split into various forums where people just from that country/continent can get to know who's writing from that area and share specific events or un-official Chaos meet-ups etc. The amount of times I may want to share something UK related but it either gets lost in the fray, or just not seen amongst the others, is a shame.

Some forums will be more popular than others, but if you have one for where you are, it will e a nice base to work from and meet new people in the community.

This would NOT be a place to advertise other RP communities or anything in relation to where you live; STRICTLY Chaos chat and loving only, and official Star Wars / sports / film conventions and events you may feel others would enjoy from being here.

Just a thought, not sure if it has been done before.

Thanks! :)

I like this idea!

This is a pretty common feature on many forums, although I've actually not seen one on a roleplay forum before. However; I have indeed seen them on various web forums and it's great to be able to have discussions with people who share a region. Especially in terms of sharing news about Star Wars events, or maybe giving a head's up on emergencies. Things like that! So yes, I'm very supportive of this idea.

[member="Chiasa Kritivaas"] ...it's a GOOD other. :)

(I hate the "other" class - that will of course be worked on, or an alternate grouping suggested perhaps!)

I believe Canada would fall under the category of Americas (North). Instead of other regions and untied states...how about Americas?
Technically correct, but you say America or Americas and folks think USA, I'll just sit with the Others, it's okay, we'll be alternative and edgy in our corner ;p

I'm 2-4 hours away from the Canadian border.
Alas, Canada-Land refuses to share it's glory (and polite nature) with us Washingtonians (affectionately dubbed "Worshingtonions" by some).

To touch on another note: I think I know of 3 Australians on the site. Pretty sure I've talked to at least a dozen writers from Texas alone.

Why not start with a single board, and set out guidelines about topic creation to clear up any region confusion (perhaps topics start with [USA] or [Germany] to identify the location and whether said topic would be of interest to readers)?

Multiple sub-boards to start just seems like a recipe for empty sub-boards. There may not be much interest in this, and people might just post in General Discussion anyway (like they do) the topics that should go elsewhere.

[member="Captain Jordan"] Could do - and it's the reason for you saying you post in General Discussion, but it can get lost so quickly, this will help be more country / continent specific for people to get to know each other or share events etc so they don't get lost in the mass of topics.

Maybe the forum's can be divided by the seven continents? Then subdivided by some of the major regions that people come from on the board via application process? Oh, and don't you dare disclude the Antarctic!

Penguins need some forum space too ya know :p

[member="Zambrano the Hutt"] Seven continents could work - I just feel it'll be good for events, gatherings etc to be collated into a more social / communal side area which brings people together. And the penguins, of course.

I just think a bunch of sub-boards is excessive to start. Ultimately it's up to the staff, but I think it's unnecessary clutter for something that may or may not be used frequently.
