OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: Slavery through addiction.
  • Image Source: Addiction by Andrej Z.T.
  • Canon Link: N/A
  • Permissions: N/A
  • Primary Source: N/A
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
  • Name: Compound A, aka 'Despair'.
  • Manufacturer: Vysh-Kolluri Incorporated
  • Affiliation: Vysh-Kolluri Incorporated
  • Market Status: Open-Market
  • Modularity: Generally keyed to specific individuals.
  • Production: Limited | Mass-Produced ('Zero Mixtures')
  • Material: Chemicals.
TECHNICAL INFORMATION
  • Classification: Drug
  • Method of Consumption: Variable, mixture dependent.
  • Average Life: One day to one month, mixture dependent.
  • Nutritional Value/Allergies/Side Effects/Purpose: Compound A's primary purpose is side effects; many mixtures are very pleasurable, but the long list of horrific withdrawal symptoms is more important.
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Compound A is carefully engineered for maximised addictiveness, altering several key parts of the vital organs in order to tie their functions to a steady supply of Compound A. As a result, withdrawal is unpleasant and eventually lethal. It is impossible to cure Compound A addiction by simply ceasing to take it - the few cures that exist are rare, difficult, and all but impossible to arrange discreetly; as such, Compound A is an excellent tool for those wishing to force the long-term compliance of an 'unruly asset'. Just stay clear of the excessively self-sacrificing.
  • Compound A is generally keyed to specific individuals or small groups of related individuals. This makes reverse engineering the right mixture a herculean feat, preventing rivals from offering one's assets better terms; individuals are addicted to the specific mixture, not Compound A in general. It is possible to create - and indeed Mass-Produce - so-called 'Zero Mixtures', which can affect entire bloodlines or even species; this seems like an advantage at first, but such mixtures are much easier to reverse engineer and the risk of 'defection' is therefore greater.
    • 1100-4289-2213 - Batch number for [DATA EXPUNGED], a Coruscanti security official suborned by Vysh-Kolluri.
    • ZM-001 - Batch number for a Zero Mixture designed to work on all humans (and some near-humans).
STRENGTHS & WEAKNESSES
  • Chains of Addiction: Compound A is intensely, irrevocably addictive. Even a single dose causes lifelong chemical dependence; withdrawal has been described as "escalating from mild discomfort to pain comparable to being eaten alive by venomous ants". Certain mixtures apply subtler incentives, but none can be described as kind. With the exception of 'Zero Mixtures', finding alternate 'dealers' is almost impossible.
  • Slivers of Hope: Compound A addiction can be cured through certain obscure methods, but it is never easy and can be quite risky; Healers with specialised training, Biosculptors with 'Anti-A' software, and the twisted ways of the Dark Side all have the potential to cure the addiction.
DESCRIPTION
Wholly dedicated to the creed of the Almighty Credit, Vysh-Kolluri's researchers are no strangers to dabbling in unethical experiments and selling the vilest substances. Even by their standards, Compound A is a sadistically inhumane drug that could never be approved for sale.

Naturally, this did little to stop Vysh-Kolluri from selling the substance on the black market; slavers, Hutts, Sith, and shady intelligence agencies? The customer knows best, so long as the customer has sufficient funds. As far as Vysh-Kolluri is concerned, the invisible hand of the free market is more than sufficient to keep things reasonable. As a result, 'bothersome pencil-pushers' who investigate the origins of the drug have a tendency to vanish.

In fact, several of the researchers that developed the drug similarly 'retired' after raising concerns about Vysh-Kolluri's policies.

Rumours that the substance was inspired by 'vampires' and their addictive bodily substances is, of course, utter nonsense. As are the rumours that at least one such being is counted among Vysh-Kolluri's executives - such drivel is no doubt based on slanderous implications that Vysh-Kolluri executives are as ruthless as they are greedy. Referring to the Board as 'bloodsuckers' is grounds for disciplinary action.
