GENERAL INFORMATION
- Planet Name: Confracta
- Demonym: Confractan | To call someone from Confracta a ‘Confractan’ is considered tasteless and ignorant, as they have many demonyms based on where you come from planetside & 'Confractan' is actually the name of the language spoken/written there and in the Triumvirate itself. Those from the Cerevessian Republic are Cerevessians, those from the City of Ifradel are Ifradeli and those from the Illasian Aristocracy/the moon are Illasians. Whilst these demonyms share the names of the nation's respective races, any species born into their borders is called such as well. Those who live outside of those 3 nations are simply Triumvirate citizens and have no specific demonym.
- Region: Unknown Regions
- System Name: Ferentis system
- System Features: Confracta is located in a micro nebula named the Golden Veil, alongside other planetary bodies within the Ferentis system. The moon that circles Confracta was named Illasia by its settlers, the Illasian Aristocracy.
- Coordinates: M-12, in the centre.
- Major Imports:
Outsider Foodstuffs - Outsider Weaponry/Technology
[*]Major Exports:
- Zersuium Ore
- Magnetite Ore
- Gold Ore
- Silver Ore
- Aluminium Ore
- Local Foodstuffs
- Starships/Technology | Created in the Banded Forge
GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION
- Gravity: 0.8g | Slightly but not majorly weaker.
- Climate: Temperate | Leans towards warmer.
- Primary Terrain: Plains, Grasslands, Deserts, Mountains, Marshes, Forests
- Atmosphere: Type I - Anomalous | Due to catastrophic events in Confracta’s turbulent history, the Atmosphere has been largely diluted and rendered semi-inhospitable in areas in and around the breach of the planet. This results in some industrial complications for some areas, such as workers requiring oxygen tanks and pressurized suits.
- Major Locations:
Illasia: The moon of Confracta only saw habitation with the arrival of the Gulag Plague, the ever ready and efficacious Illasian Aristocracy was fast to think, even faster to act. A full-scale quarantine of their homeland was no option, so they would relocate their people, it has a hard arduous task, but it steeled the ever ready Castes, transitioning them into a new era. Confracta's only Moon, Illasia is a polar wasteland possessing an artificial Type I atmosphere, cultivated by the Illasian Aristocracy. It houses a wide range of imported Confractan arctic wildlife. In the modern era, it is indistinguishable from Confracta itself, and by all official organizations, the environment, population and economies of the two are one.
The Citadels: The Illasian people make their home in massive citadels, carved into Glaciers and ice at the base, boasting spires that rise kilometers into the skies above. Beneath them are caverns dug deep into the moon, some rumored to reach as deep as the core, though outsiders, even their Brother, and Sister species are strictly forbidden from entering.
- The First Citadel: The Seat of government and Capital of the Illasian people is a mighty fortress built upon the Moon, it is here that the far-flung avian refugees first arrived, and made the first of many homes. To call her impregnable is laughable, it cannot even broach the subject. Deep below, in the oldest caverns and mines of Illasia was found a strange and ancient runic pillar, imbued with the Dark Side of the force, not unlike a Holocron. Members of Illasia are tested using this pillar, those who succumb to temptation are not strong enough to bear the burden of Rulership, as one must always see the needs of their people before the taste of greed.
[*]The Banded Forge: Within the planet-spanning crack has risen a new industry; shipyards. Controlled by the Triumvirate to ensure this natural resource is not possessively used by one of the three nations over the other two, this ‘crack’, in actuality an unstable chasm that runs right to the core of the planet in some channels, has been industrialized over years and years to become a hub of production and wealth. Able to harness the power of Confracta’s core itself to power the factories and production lines, this is one of the planet’s most populous locations and the busiest, with hundreds of thousands of credits moving through the Forge on a daily basis. Whilst all three nations operate within the forge to sustain their own national militaries and that of the Triumvirate itself, private companies-- more often than not managed by the upper-class of the planet --also hold shares and districts inside the Forge for their own production as it’s treated as a protected natural resource. The Band runs all the way from Confracta's north pole to just below the equator.
- The Skyspire: A massive facility located in the centre of the Banded Forge. Despite its name, it is not a single spire, but an industrial complex centred around one, which reaches far into, as the name suggests, the sky. The top of this spire is covered in a strange web of combs and vents, and the purpose of its design is to reach above the heavier undesirable elements of Confracta’s atmosphere, sucking in healthy clean air, to then be further scrubbed, processed, and bottled for industrial use.
[*]The Toxic Lowlands: On the western side of the Banded Forge is a large stretch of desert that is known as the Toxic Lowlands. Naturally-occurring even before the Banded Forge was ‘created’, it’s only intensified after the incident; various deadly gasses permeate this wasteland and make it extremely treacherous to cross. However, it's not impossible -- And there are a wealth of rare ores and minerals ripe for mining, should you feel like taking a chance to make some credits.
[*]The Fertile Highlands: On the eastern side of the Banded Forge is a large stretch of nutrient-rich plains and oases dubbed the Fertile Highlands. Home once to an ancient band of nomads, it is now a hunting ground for those primarily from the City of Ifradel and is home to a few wandering folk still. Those independent peoples are having their farmland bought up by enterprises operating out of the Banded Forge.
[*]Necropolis: A place that is both sacred and vital to Confracta and the Triumvirate, Necropolis is a vast city/base occupied predominantly by the Labyrinthian, a religious/Force order. What makes Necropolis so astounding is that it is the burial site of the vast majority of Confracta's deceased, where rites are performed so that the Maze blooms utilized to chart the Unknown Regions can be grown directly from the corpses of the deceased. It operates as a greenhouse, cult centre & mausoleum.
[*]The City of Ifradel: Seat of Ifradel, one of the three prongs of the Triumvirate, the City of Ifradel is a massive and ancient metropolis the size of a small country. Consisting of three rings of walls to protect against outsiders-- Though the advent of flight technology made this rather pointless, and it has seen upgrades to compensate --The city is hundreds of thousands of years old and has been the home of the Ifradeli since time immemorial. In the past it was ruled in a 'round robin' manner between five noble Ifradeli houses; The Vacaryns, the Dorlens, the Naxxremises, the Cartorises and the Thexinas, with the crown passing to the oldest child of each house following either the death or the relinquishment of the High Crown. However, around the year 3701 BBY, a coup involving the Vacaryns and House Valeport of the Cerevessian Republic led to a more strict monarchal rule being placed on the city, with the Vacaryns ascending to the High Throne with the support of Cerevessia. The four other houses fell in stature and were soon all but erased as lesser noble houses of the fair city. The Palace of Ifradel was rebranded to the Opaline Palace following this event.
[*]Valeport: Capital of the Cerevessian Republic one of three member nations of the Triumvirate, and seat of House Valeport, it is a mighty and wealthy city, once home to thousands of ships which rode the waves of the sea, now too is she home to a myriad of vessels who brave the dangers of the void. Constructed millennia ago, the City of Valeport was the last experiment of the Mad King of Cerevessia, a fortress which would never fall - and never has, taken only from him by a minor noble of the area by betraying the King, taking the fortress for themselves - and its name as their own. Known as The Golden City, Valeport is divided into several sectors expanding outwards radially, each layer exponentially older than the next, the very core itself now built upon ancient buildings carved of stone and granite. The rich merchant houses who call the city home have ensured it has always developed as a center of wealth and trade, historically Valeport was not the Seat of Cerevessia. Several millennia ago in no small part, thanks to interference from House Vacaryn somewhere around the year 3701 BBY House Valeport successfully launched a Coup, installing themselves as Constitutional Monarchs of Cerevessia, and thus sealing the fate of Valeport to once again take up the mantle of Capital.
[*]Southern Pole: Former seat of the Illasian Aristocracy prior to the evacuation that the Gulag plague brought, Confracta's southern pole was the homeland of the Aristocracy for many years. Now it is a graveyard of a civilization that was forced to find a new home.
[*]Noctus Forest: A large swathe of forested land on the still-whole side of the planet, the Noctus Forest is famous for its near-constant darkness due to tree cover and the bioluminescent creatures who reside there. It is a trippy and celestial-like place to visit, filled with strange and beautiful creatures.
[*]Ai'ith: An island off the coast of Ifradel in the throes of the Sapphire Sea, Ai'ith was once home to Grey Ifradeli who splintered from the main faction in ancient times. They long-died out, consumed by the wildlife of this strange jungle island, but their ruins remain. Now Ai'ith is just a reminder, and the home of many exotic, sought-after animals that more often than not turn this island into a death trap. The Labyrinthian sometimes sends Scions, their apprentice-equivalents, to Ai'ith as tests of endurance.
POPULATION
- Native Species: Illasians, Ifradeli, Cerevessians
- Immigrated Species: Small populations of Humans, Chiss.
- Population: Moderately Populated
- Demographics: Ifradeli: 25% | Cerevessian: 35% | Illasian: 30% | Human: 5% | Chiss: 3% | Other: 2%
- Primary Languages: The Old Tongue [Limited] | Confractan [Majority] | Basic [Limited]
The Old Tongue: A language that is impossible to speak but is often found written on artefacts found on Confracta. It is runic in nature, and the symbols on the Triumvirate logo are of the Old Tongue.
- Confractan: A flowy, unique language, Confractan is written with circular glyphs and is read left to right, sharing much with Basic/Aurebesh in that regard but they sound/appear nothing alike.
[*]Culture: Confracta is ruled by the Second Triumvirate but has always been home to three main powers; the Ceverssian Republic, the Illasian Aristocracy and the City of Ifradel. Each nation has its own cultures, which make up the overall 'culture' of the planet.
- Ifradel: The culture of the Ifradeli of the City of Ifradel is tight-woven and colourful, literally. Utilizing their natural bioluminescence both as lighting substitutes, forms of communication and bodily art, these peaceful peoples only seek to live their lives in their massive city and support the Triumvirate as much as possible despite their relative low constitution.
- Cerevessian Republic: Industrious and artistic. Pretentious and graceful. These are the ways of Cerevessia's children, all things are seen as a craft, as a labor of love - artistic expression in its purest most refined form. Everything exudes beauty and meaning, Cerevessian people seek to become the masters of what they do and execute lives of dedication and reverence in equal measure. Cerevessians are charming by nature, making shrewd negotiators and diplomats, they are painfully pretentious and can always be found in any occasion of class or pomp, they are graceful artists dedicating themselves to not only master every undertaking but to express themselves through it and see it reflected back in themselves.
- Illasian Aristocracy: Competition and the Caste. Illasians are members of a caste-based society, functioning within it for the completion of a specific task or tasks. Movement through said castes is fluid, and the Ruling Caste is a bounty held above the heads of all.The act of proving oneself is the height of existence. All wish to command, few wish to be commanded. The single unifying motivator of Illasian Society is to become one of the ruling caste, should one bring themselves fame and glory, they shall bring it to the nation. Everything is a competition, explorers outrace each-other, further and persistently pushing the boundaries. Warriors compete against a common foe. Historians seek to out-wit and out scribe others. To live is to compete, to win is to be exalted.
GOVERNMENT & ECONOMY
- Government: Triumvirate | Confracta is ruled by a 'United Nations' style alignment of three central governing bodies; the Cerevessian Republic, the City of Ifradel and the Illasian Aristocracy, which make up the 'Second Triumvirate' as it's called. All three nations govern themselves in distinct ways, though -- The Cerevessian Republic is an Aristocratic Federation, Ifradel is an Absolute Monarchy and the Illasian Aristocracy is an Aristocracy. In terms of planetary governance; the Triumvirate has a first and final say of planetary rule and law.
- Affiliation: The Second Triumvirate
- Wealth: Medium | The Triumvirate sustains, it does not glorify. The majority of the planet falls into a middle-class position, having enough wealth to live comfortably not greatly. There is an established upper class on the planet, however, mainly made up of ancient noble houses. The lower class goes mostly unnoticed, but is there, especially in the City of Ifradel.
- Stability: Medium | Stability on Confracta has always been high due to only having to deal with planetary issues for its entire existence. With the introduction to the wider Galactic stage, however, many residents are left unsure of these outsiders and their problems that they bring to the Golden Veil, leading to some push-back in areas.
- Freedom & Oppression: The Second Triumvirate is very Confractan-centric, loving its people and being loved by them in return. There is a high level of freedom on the planet between the three nations and the Triumvirate itself, citizens free to move between the major countries or live outside their borders whilst retaining Triumvirate citizenship.
- Military: Confracta is the seat of an interstellar nation bearing ambitions, or perhaps, delusions of grandeur. She is home to four separate military organizations, each having no higher goal than the defense of their homeworld. These including; the Ifradeli Armed and Naval Services, the Cerevessian Military Orders, and the Illasian Aristocracy itself, which in truth bears no distinction between state and military - Each in turn ruled above by the Armed Forces of the Second Triumvirate.
- Technology: Confracta is at the galactic standard for technology, being spacefaring. Their technology is also mostly compatible with other galactic techs as well, though lacks in some areas like shielding and often requires reverse-engineering on the local's part to work.
The sands of time rarely tell the truth when viewed through the hourglass lens of history. History is often seen as something in the past, as concluded and finalized, but the truth is stories change, books are rewritten by the victors, children often erase the sins of their forebears. Facts fade to legend, stories further fall into myth with each passing generation.
The History of Confracta is twisted and tainted, the truth long ago lost, not that it frankly matters any more. History is what you make of it but it all starts somewhere, there is always a beginning. Confracta orbits the star Ferentis located near the centre of a micro nebula in the Unknown Regions, being in these treacherous parts of the galaxy spared the world most of the tumultuous history, but also much of its prosperity, developing itself in near isolation, with few examples. The genesis of life on Confracta came slowly but steady with Ifradeli and Illasians, one calling ancient dark caves home, the other making their roosts in the frozen mountains of the South Pole. A third would soon join, as the first exception of interference begins, a transport vessel through some Hyperspace mishap would find itself crashing on the world and with no hope of escape, the passengers adopted their prison as a home. These ancient humans would comprise the third race, taking their name from thee vessel that bore them, the Cerevessia. The pieces were now on the board, and so the game began -- pawn to D4.
Written history begins somewhere around the year 5000 BBY, with the many medieval nations of the world finally contacting one another, most which are now dreadfully extinct, and lost to time. Through guile and luck, three, in particular, began their alliance here, one which would slowly become the Triumvirate. The now Great City of Ifradel, ancient, graceful, immense. The Republic of Cerevessia, traders, explorers, artists. The Illasian Aristocracy, proud, strong, dominating. They would each grow among others for the next millennia until the shape of things to come took form, and coalesced into being. Later in 3701 BBY Vacaryn of Ifradel and Valeport of Cerevessia each unto one-another ensured that each found and kept their respective thrones for themselves, from there soon after into this dual Union joined the Illasians, and formed the First Triumvirate, wars would be fought, battles won, dust settled. When all came to its end, three remained, three as one.
The Force was quick to be discovered and studied by the natives, influenced more only as they grew. It was here than an ancient order, perhaps more like a cult dug in their claws, their foolishness, an ancient ritual meant to bring them immortality, rife with energies, left instead with a cataclysm of the sort enough so forceful and powerful to rip deep into the world, leaving fissures and cracks which spewed forth minerals from as deep as the core. Scars are strange things, reminders, reminders that fade to nothing; this left a scar in the minds of the Confractan peoples, shying them away from the Force until the rise of the Labyrinthian upon the discovery of the enchanting Maze bloom. Mortals are a greedy ravenous sort, and in the ancient Great Desert of Drahara now stood a wound in the world itself, but this wound bled riches, riches which would be consumed. Drills, picks, all manner and sorts of digging things, factories, deeper and deeper, vacuuming up minerals and now harvesting geothermal energies deep into the planet core. Over the next two thousand years and into the annals of time was this crime committed, followed through on what should have been a burial ground left the scar growing. A beating heart, a great forge, a titan of industry to rival that of any other in the Unknown Regions, for this heart pumped blood made wealth. The Banded Forge had awoken.
It was sometime between the creation of the Banded Forge and the advent of the Gulag plague that a mysterious plant was discovered by the First Triumvirate. It was a strange black blossom, sprouting from the corpse of man, attractive yet beautiful in it’s reinvention of death, and, later discovered, to hold properties that could give Confracta the stars. The Maze flower would send shockwaves over Confracta and would go on to change the entire religious landscape, with a new order, the Labyrinthian, rising to tend to these mysterious flowers and to other facets of death and reincarnation on the planet. Following the formation of the Labyrinthian, a mysterious warrior would find himself among their ranks, offering teachings on the use of dual-bladed lightsaber combat and Form IV, Niman. This would be the ‘Jendee’, the only named leader of the Labyrinthian in history, and who would turn the gardener cult into an order of Force disciples.
Until this time things had been relatively peaceful, quiet and undisturbed. Societies grew, some stagnated, technology progressed. The Hyperdrive was a gift which came late to the slow-developing natives of Confracta, but when it did they were quick to brave the dangers of the Unknown Regions, to slowly expand their tendrils of influence outwards in the form of trade and peaceful coexistence.
The Gulag plague is what brought the First Triumvirate to its knees. Violently, painful, enough to leave marks. The First Triumvirate had some passing encounters with the Chiss, fellow space-fairing peoples, but one such encounter would lead to the plague passing from an infected Chiss to a ship, from a ship to an armada, from an armada to the entire planet. Panicked, fearful, the First Triumvirate collapsed overnight as the Ifradeli retreated to their prehistoric caverns, the Illasians took flight to the moon, and the Cerevessians sealed their borders and themselves, preserving themselves out of manic fear of the killer unknown. It would take four hundred years of well-fought-for built-up immunity to the disease and careful actions before the remnants of the First Triumvirate could rise, to their broken cities and empires, to rebuild.
Rebuilding from the plague would take longer than any had expected to. Emerging from self-imposed preservative exile in 800 ABY, the three nations would spend some time collecting themselves and licking their wounds before re-establishing ancient channels of communication. 804 ABY is when the Second Triumvirate would officially be formed, between the Ifradeli, Cerevessians and Illasians, a long-forgotten alliance reignited with the goals of survival and remembrance. Repairing Confracta would take time and dedication, but it was the first thing on the minds of the newly-formed Second Triumvirate, a task that would consume them for years on end as the Banded Forge rose to meet the new technological demands of a people freshly risen from slumber. It would take almost 30 years for this process of restoration to finish, but it would be complete nonetheless.
With the Second Triumvirate advent, a new era of Confracta was before the planet and it’s denizens. New probes sent beyond the relative-safe-harbour of the Unknown Regions, a completely changed galaxy to face. Perhaps to dominate. Perhaps to enter peacefully.
The Galaxy is Confracta’s oyster.
