General behavior: Corellian Ropos behave in much the same fashion as their Hoth cousins. They exhibit a generally passive demeanor, enjoying being held and stroked. Food is a guaranteed motivator for them. When pleased, Corellian Ropos trill melodically. When frightened, they tend to shriek. During mating season, they will produce music through horn vocalizations that are inaudible to non-Ropos.
History: After a number of Ropos were brought back to the Protectorate, their popularity created a large demand for the cuddly creature. Efforts were undertaken to establish colonies within the Protectorate. However, difficulties were encountered with getting the small mammals to adapt to worlds that were so much warmer than Hoth. Eventually, a number of geneticists created a gene therapy to help the ropos acclimate more quickly. This led to a number of divergent characteristics from the Hoth Ropo. First and most obvious, Corellian Ropos sport a moustache-like tuff of fur on their face that seems to help them navigate. Secondly, within a few generations, the Corellian Ropo's fur variety expanded to include shades of gray, brown, and even black.
Another characteristic that separates Corellian Ropos from their Hoth cousins lies in the trilling noise that they make when stroked or pleased. As well, they appear to be less unwary of danger, capable of responding to sudden, loud bursts of noise. However, their appetite appears magnified and they will eat anything they can get their mouth around. Almost all of these traits were found to be very desirable and soon, Corellian Ropos were in high demand as household pets.
