Manufacturer: Tel'alith Labs
Type: Material
Market Status: Closed Market
Production: Minor
Weight: Average
Size: N/A
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Its Gel nature allows it amazing stopping ability against kinetic projectiles
  • Slows continuous beam weapons
  • Would if left open to reentry allow the exposed portion to survive but provide no further benefit
  • Is an insulator
  • Non flammable
STRENGTHS
  • Gel: Very hight kinetic dissipating ability from the gel family of material
  • Vaporous: Slows continuous beam weapon progress through it
  • Heat Resistant: Is very resistant to heat
WEAKNESSES
  • Bulky: To achieve its feats it requires a big piece. It also requires a minimum of 1 meter of depth to provide starship weapon stopping power, more the better.
  • Heavy: It is not a light material. Given its expanded form when treated the material is still pretty solid and weights quite a bit.
DESCRIPTION
The material that is now referred to as Coreplast is born from an accident known as forgetfulness. The materials lab was working on a new base material for plastic type production. There had been 121 previous formulations that had been tried and failed or incrementally moved towards what characteristics were sought after. TLCP-121 had marked the first material when completed to succeed in being processed into a hard armor type of material. But for anything less rigid the material still failed to create the desired material effects. Keeping the TLCP-121 as a proper base material for hardened applications they moved on to the TLCP-122. It was only the first week of tweaking the formulation towards the more flexible end of usage when one of the samples was left in the chiller for a full night. Upon returning the sample of TLCP-122 had undergone a metamorphosis into a solid gel state that had a bit of give, but otherwise was pretty solid and bigger in volume.

The head researcher saw value in the discovery and set about making a few more in bigger cube shapes to undergo tests. The first stop was at the firing range where a mass round was discharged from a hand gun. The projectile barely scratched & flattened itself. Next they took the meter by meter cube and kept incrementally increasing the size of projectile until the shot made it most of the way through.... which was a lot more size and power than they thought it would take. Next they tested it against laser bolts, and plasma bolts. It preformed like armor against the shots scorching and gouging depending of strength of shot. But under a continuous beam it shone as the material atomized it dissipates a quarter to third of the incoming beam, slowing the rate at which the beam could cut through it. Aleratha Tel'alith decided to market it to the companies allies, especially Werr Drive Yards, And Du'thra Engineering to see what they could make of it.
