Inspired by Imperial Designs, the reconstituted MandalMotors went to work almost immediately following the Empire's liberation of Mandalore from the Sith. Design efforts were slow as much of MandalMotors' data had been lost when ex-President Zeke Farthen wiped the archives before being captured and sentenced to death by the Sith. Fortunately, many of Farthen's top engineers were found in the Beskar mining death camps on the surface and with the dedicated minds of Kuati engineers they were able to introduce a new generation of Mandalorian ships.
The Covert-Class dreadnought, or the Mandalorian Star Destroyer in Imperial databases, was a rare vessel with only a handful being completed during the Second Great Hyperspace War. They served the Mandalore Sector's newest weapon and were the pride of the few fleets they were a part of. Despite them having less firepower than the few remaining Mandalorian Battlecruisers, they were more agile and readily available when compared to those ancient behemoths. Shaped like Mandalorian warships of old, or in the image of Imperial design, the blade-shaped vessels were equipped with the standard Imperial fair of heavy turbolasers, missile launchers, and laser cannons. Hangars along the spine of the vessel were defended with quick targeting point-defense weapons and there were dozens of launch tubes along the underbelly and within the trenches of the vessel to launch boarding pods, drop pods, and bes'uliik war droids.
The warships would be held greedily by the nascent Imperial-backed Mandalorian government as it re-established itself under the protection of the Son's of Mandalore. After Tavlar's death and the reign of his successor, the Iron Emperor Fel, growing unrest in the sector kept the vessels from taking part in the Second Great Hyperspace War as they began rolling out of drydock. Despite the lodes of beskar pulled from deep within Mandalore by the Sith and reclaimed by the Mandalorians, little was used in the construction of the warships. Only the bridge, located in the reinforced rear superstructure of the vessel, had beskar to defend its exposed position.
Despite its namesake, the Covert-Class was meant to be Mandalore's bold step into the Galaxy after throwing off the iron chains of bondage by the Sith. But growing internal paranoia kept them hidden from the stars.
