SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Alternate Fire Modes:CrestCrash can be figured to have its charge detonate and explode in two ways: either a relatively small sphere or a large, expansive disc. In its "small" spherical detonation still produces a shockwave about 50 meters in diameter but is much more concentrated, making it much more effective at damaging or destroying well defended targets such as large vehicles, superstructures, and starships. Conversely, the wide-spread disc expands the seismic shockwave in a large disc that can reach up to several hundred meters in diameter but it is relatively weak, making it better suited to soft targets such as infantry or clearing terrain.
  • Programmed Area of Attack: Like some thermal detonators, the CrestCrash can be programmed to have a certain blast radius via self-perpetuating containment field, allowing it be easily tailored for smaller diameters for more precise attacks or demolition purposes.
  • Backwards Compatible: The CrestCrash's chassis is based on that of a proton bomb, making it backwards compatible with a variety of launchers and deployment platforms. Lucerne Labs LLT-7 General Purpose Warhead Launcher can consequently carry a single one of the these weapons.
  • Countermeasures: CrestCrash uses a number of technologies found on its other warheads to make it more resistant to high-tech anti-warhead defenses. This includes the use of a chemical fuel drive (that can't be turned off by missile de-activators or overloaded by EMP/Ion weapons) as well as a detonite-based priming charge as an impact-based detonator (which similarly cannot be deactivated by electronic means). Biolux organoform circuitry also makes it fairly resistant to EMP/Ion weapons, though it is just as vulnerable to traditional energy and kinetic weapons as most other warheads.
  • Ground Controls: While primarily designed to be launched as a missile like many other seismic charges, the CrestCrash can be employed as a placed, ground demolition. In this mode, it can be detonated by wire remote control or by a timer via a control panel that requires two separate activation codes. As it is relatively piece of ordinance, placing such a charge typically requires the full-time effort of a single individual of exceptional strength to move, or more commonly the help of several people working in unison to place.
STRENGTHS
  • Exceptional Power (Spherical Detonation mode): In its spherical detonation mode, the seismic shockwaves are extremely concentrated and even can reverberate back against the containing field, making it a very powerful piece of ordinance well suited to destroying hardened targets.
  • Exceptional Area of Effect (Disc Detonation mode): In its disc detonation mode, the CrestCrash focuses its shockwaves in a very narrow horizontal plane, allowing it to expand to an an exceptional width, making it ideal for clearing out terrain or obliterating groups of soft targets.
WEAKNESSES
  • Large: The CrestCrash is a large piece of ordinance, being the same size as the standard proton bomb and typically taking up all of the magazine space in most general purpose warhead launchers.
  • Heavy: The CrestCrash is a heavy piece of ordinance, often necessitating the use of several people to move around or place on the ground.
DESCRIPTION
The CrestCrash is Lucerne Labs's version of the classic seismic charge, a powerful weapon known for its devastating shockwave. In many ways, the CrestCrash is equivalent to the classic Void-7 Seismic Charge in terms of its size and rough power capabilities, yet it contains several refinements typical of the Lucerne consortium's products. The most significant of these is its alternate fire modes, allowing the charge to be detonated in either a relatively small but powerful sphere or a far-reaching but significantly weaker disc. Both of these modes have advantages and disadvantages that altogether gives its user more tactical flexibility that conventional seismic charges. With that, the ability to dial down the blast radius in either mode means that it actually can be used as a precision weapon to take out targets in close proximity to friendly people or assets that the user does not want damaged. While largely employed as a starfighter launched weapon especially as an asteroid field clearer, the CrestCrash also sees some use as a ground placed demolition, typically in defensive arrangements or in the controlled destruction of large structures.
