Description: The Royal Family's defenders and the greatest soldiers on Crina. The Royal Guard of Crina stand above the regular soldiers of the Royal Army, and even elite units such as the Zeta and Valkyrie Squads. Formed sometime down the line of Crina's successors before her direct bloodline died out, the Royal Guard of Crina was at first more of a ceremonial guard in place merely to provide basic security for the Palace grounds, and was in fact much larger than how it exists today. However, as time wore on, the Royal Guard more and more became a true military unit, and by the time of the civil war was a full fledged elite combat unit.
Even then though, the Royal Guard numbers were originally much higher, numbering two hundred originally they were once the bane of Crina's resistance movement during the early days of the civil war. Their armor, back then made of more common materials but thick nonetheless, gave them a hefty advantage in surviving blaster fire brief. A unique trait until the development of the standard armor of the Royal Soldier was developed following the death of General Tiberius the Saint. By that time the number of active Royal Guardsmen had dropped to fifty through continual loss of life in active combat, sadly a result of their failing armor, though the remaining Royal Guard were by far some of the most well trained and deadly soldiers on Crina.
Thus it was passed that while elite infantry forces would be added to the Royal Palace's security detail, only the fifty most skilled would truly earn the title of Royal Guard and wear the armor. The standard would be raised all around, creating a three fold soldier system of the common infantry, their more skilled elite units, and the rare and vaunted Royal Guard. They would act as the personal guard of the Royal Family and defend the most important sections of the Palace. They would perform this duty admirably as well. Skilled in close quarters tactics and learned to act as commanders for small sections of armies in larger combat scenarios during emergencies, the Royal Guard are well trained in ranged and martial combat. While it is not necessary some members of the Royal Guard could be Practitioners who underwent schooling in the Cosmina Academy to practice their more mystical talents as well, though their numbers deemed too few to count.
The primary tools of the Royal Guard are their armor, now made from phrik as a result of working with the Imperial Remnant and also reusing defunct operation units armor as well to make their own, along with traditional Crinan Energy Blades and Blaster Carbines. They are perhaps most deadly in close quarters wielding their Energy Blades, as each Royal Guardsmen is a highly qualified sword user in their own right. Those with Practitioner abilities may have light use of elemental skills at best, though it is doubted they owned their abilities past the skill of a novice unlike fully devoted Practitioners.
