Crown of the Metharian Nebula

After returning from another mission on Ord Pardron that resulted in a Confederate victory, Jessica knew that she had to do something about the situation of the Crown Nebula hotel, namely that she definitely didn't get to the bottom of the matter with Ashla when she last tried to get to learn more about the issues of the hotel. All that she managed to determine was that the work environment was poisonous one way or another, but there were several things that could lead to a poisonous atmosphere, or any combination thereof: the owner was exploitative, failed to pay the employees on time and also lacking respect towards the staff and/or guests being the most common three, as she knew the hospitality industry. If the rumor mill was correct about the hotel, one of the longest-serving staffers saw 15 managers come and go for the few short years the hotel has even been in existence. Today, Jessica would take [member="Ronin Wendigo"] at the Crown Nebula hotel, the only luxury hotel in the region of Trandosha one Jaster had his starship salvage plant built, in exchange of which the Silver Jedi would have access to transponders and access codes for the purposes of smuggling through First Order space. Before going through the front door of the hotel, which displayed vacancies:

"I heard about this hotel: perhaps I can more easily get to the bottom of the matter, of what's wrong with the hotel to the point of the staff requesting our aid to resolve a labor dispute, if we were guests at the hotel"

And so it was that after all the session along with time spent with the Healers since his return Ronin had been somewhat struggling still. But was doing his best blend in and at the same time reconcile his past from his present which onto itself presented some challenges. For one skill he'd once learn or knew of from the past beyond the basics was seem lost or impartial. That he had little or no control of their use thus preventing him from attempting them outside of the Temple walls. And secondly with the tear in his memory barely mended made him reconnecting or associate with those that knew him before trying to a point. It leads him to bouts of instability that tend lead him to lash out negatively...

220bea29c6e86408fe49b87a5c86ce2b.jpg

To which he did well to find ways to deal with but was nothing short of trial and error to which. Seem out of options or treatment to suggest one the others task with his reintegration into the order figured send him on a mission would help. So with much care and given very little information other than a name along with a hangar number. He'd been assign to a mission with one the other Jedi Master which he reluctantly thought agreed to. As it came be the two met cordially and boarded one the awaiting transport ship provided for them. And all the while for the duration of the trip he could shake the feeling. That he's somehow known her from somewhere but from where all his mind could come up blank. SO in frustration in his inability to find the answer but not wish to act out as he did his best to calm his mind that he stay silent for the duration the trip.

Until such time that they soon arrive at their appointed destination which was it seem a hotel. And it was at that time that the Jedi Master accompany him came forth to speak.

"I heard about this hotel: perhaps I can more easily get to the bottom of the matter, of what's wrong with the hotel to the point of the staff requesting our aid to resolve a labor dispute, if we were guests at the hotel."

To which he seems unmindfully replied.

"Well get into the guestbook rather than come in strait as Jedi's.... might not be much of a stretch and much easier do to best find out what wrong here. Although would you rather go in separately or under a combine guise....?"

His words cut short as his eyes turn to gaze back at her with the seem blank yet familiarity hung ever so stubbornly on the tip his tongue. That he sort unable notice nor catch how far longer he seems been staire at her...enought so that she'd most likely notice by now. And it was only by chance how if any she'd react to having been stared at.

"Under a combined guise"

Yes, she realized by now that [member="Ronin Wendigo"] was staring at her just outside the lobby of the Crown Nebula hotel. But it was not a new experience to her: she was stared at in similar manners by other people, ranging from Omwati, Trandoshans, to Geonosians even. The duet walked into the front office where the only Trandoshan on staff greeted them; she swiftly remembers that her last meeting in the hotel did not comprise any Trandoshan, and it was the entirety of the then-current staff as well as many of the more recent ex-staffers that showed at the last unproductive meeting. So the Trandoshan in the lobby was either a new hire or the owner of the place. All that the Trando receptionist had to show for it was a hunting suit that had an identification pin with Ithuvask on it. Hopefully there wasn't a whole lot of baggage Ronin brought with him in the lobby.

"Hello, sir, I heard that you had vacancies, so I would like to check in for the night"

"350 credits per night, and a minimum of two nightsssss" the Trandoshan receptionist told her about the conditions.

"What is 350 credits per night buying me?"

"It'sssss a flat fee per room regardless of what room you are getting"

"Are meals included or not?"

"Of course not, little misssssy. You want to use the restaurant, you have to book a table in it firssssst! And pay for each and every meal you eat in that restaurant!"

"I have enough to be treated like a number in an accounting journal entry!" Jessica lashed out at the Trandoshan, while looking around the lobby. "The rooms better be maintained better than the lobby is!"

Without suspecting that Jessica was, in fact, a Jedi Master, the Trandoshan still sees credit signs in her, and mostly just that. So it was more than understandable that, while Jessica was being jumped at by that Trandoshan receptionist, she was quickly locked in a fisticuffs duel between the two of them. When, in attempting to use her strength against him, she used telekinesis to shove him aside against the wall that had some aging wallpaper being peeled out of it, the wallpaper fell out from the wall behond him when the Trando's body made contact with it. But a few bruises was not enough to stop the angry Trando from attempting to punch her to the breasts. And punch her in the cleavage he did: she was being pushed back with her back hitting the counter Hopefully Ronin would have an idea of what to do while she knew that her regular options were unacceptable to her except perhaps pinching his nerves; however, even pinching his nerves was a risky operation when he locked her horns into a fisticuffs duel.

"Under a combined guise."

Came her response to him which for the most part appeared been enough to snap him out his brief stupor of stare at her. As the nagging desire to gain any shred of recollection or clue as to whether he'd had met her once before ate at his mind. But then again once out his stupor, it became no less apparent to him how oddly strange at best unwise it was doing that in the midst of all the Omwati, Trandoshans, Geonosians or whatnot that were milling about. Given that he'd had to make sure remind himself that they were here on a mission not for anything else that he then after a quick nod. Set about fall in line by her side as he took the guise blend in as best he could. At which time given the short notice he'd been given prior to leaving that he opted pack light. Which he'd hope would work well with whatever guise she had in mind as he shifted the small satchel on his back to the opposite side as they enter. What appeared to be some sort of Hotel establishment from the looks of it that she then enter with some seem familiarity to it. Crossing the threshold they then soon come to find themselves standing in front of the front desk where she came to initially engage to converse with.

That no sooner seem to escalate to exchange of couple choice words that lead into a heated argument and some exchange of punches. Which left him with a bit of a loss how to intercede but then again. It didn't take long for something inside of him to snap upon seeing one or two of the Trandoshan land few solid hits against her. And before he knew it as his fist ball up tight onto his side that the Trandoshan seemingly abruptly froze into place. Unable move or speak the Trandoshan soon came found himself facing off with Ronin who'd moved in with gleam look of rage in his eyes. As one hand held tight the Trandoshan collar and the other raised as if intended to land a hard blow aim at its head. Which was all that anyone uninitiated in the force would have noticed when in fact it was far worse. For given the slightly unhinged state his mind was at the sight of believing or maybe perhaps reliving past memories.

That he was unable holdback nor contain himself as he unintentionally stumbles upon accessing what one could deem to have been force Alter ability within him. As it all seems to harmlessly start as an attempt to force stun the enraged Trandoshian receptionist. Slowly escalated beyond his control and would have accidentally resulted or lead to resulting in soemthing disastrous. If not perhaps for Jessica quick thinking and Mastery to find a way snap him out of it and pull him back off from the receptionist. Who by then was left gasping as if held down by a chokehold move which he seems tried to play things off as what had happened? Covering his track he then as his gaze slightly turn away from the receptionist as he leaves her with some choice words.

"....and you better get your grubby hands off her."

He then stands and as he did so came to try brush and then grab his satchel where it fell. As his eyes turn back at Jessica seem silently wording thanks to her direction thru the exchange of looks between them. Before coming to stand by her side and adds.

"...Now are those room ready or do we need to include management in all this now?"

Quick thinking? I knew that a fast brain was a big thing many Jedi seemed to be asking for, especially since, these days, while the cohorts of Jedi padawans were, on average, no different from the NFUs of their respective species, just more narrowly distributed, but he seemed to be a beginner in Force-stun, she thought, while [member="Ronin Wendigo"] attempted to Force-stun the Trando receptionist. Once that attempt was over, she made a mental note about the state of dereliction of the walls. If it meant the mission would take two nights in this overpriced hotel, then so be it. But now that the receptionist was fully convinced that he should not mess with either of them, the question of which room the two of them would be getting will soon be resolved. So she knew by now there was a male Omwati, a little different from her wife left behind on Glyss (so that she could actually take the responsibilities of running the planet) and a Geonosian among the guests, who both quickly left the scene once the fisticuffs duel began, which ended just as quickly as it began, thanks to the . The answer is:

"Your room is going to be the Sunwell Suite" the Trandoshan receptionist announced to them before handing her the keys to the Sunwell Suite.

"Thank you sir. I apologize for my earlier discourtesies"

It was then soon after once the haze dissipated from the receptionist's eyes as seem recovered the lack of oxygen.

"No need...management doesn't need to get involved. Now if you could maybe help me up so can get you two settled?"

That he soon help him up once he'd made sure the message was received loud and clear by her. At which time once up she then moves slowly towards the front desk. Where after running her fingers over the screen she pauses then turn round grab to take a keycard which she'd run thru a reader before turn face them with a half smile smirk as she then handed them the room key.

"Your room is going to be the Sunwell Suite."

To which Jessica calmly accepted and take the key in hand replied.

"Thank you, sir. I apologize for my earlier discourtesies."

At which time he then in turn just nod to the receptionist and left alongside Jessica.

" Very well and guess we be on our way then?"

Turning around he then with his satchel slung onto his back again set off to rejoin Jessica. With that said the two then head off towards one the few lift available and only after the door close that he came speak.

"You alright? Sorry if I wasn't able to jump in sooner pry her off yah... just that ....well didn't anticipate nor expect things go south that fast. At any rate guess, we got our room key and all we need is find this Sunwell Suite?"

"I'm alright" Jessica answered [member="Ronin Wendigo"] before settling inside the room, a little shaken.

Jessica knew that at least one room had guests, but while there were twenty-nine rooms in the hotel, rooms are given specific names. The Sunwell Suite, which was theirs to sleep in for however long the mission would take, would have a bubble bath, yes, one painting each from artists on Thyferra and Utapau, a food conservator, but she needed to take a closer look at the rest of the amenities. A complimentary ironing board, a greeting with a care package containg two bars of Squib chocolate, a bouquet of Wasskah flowers, and also a holoprojector whose sound system can be activated independently of the screen. But this was where the unpleasant surprises started. Crown mouldings that are in poor condition, and also the room's walls are adorned with the very same wallpaper that was all too easy to peel off as in the lobby. Upon taking a closer look at the bubble bath, she realized there was quite a lot of filth, even suspecting the presence of mold, and also that there were cracks on the bathroom's floor. The same horror story happened in the food conservator: mold was everywhere in it.

"Yes, I feel that we have been ripped off, but the whole point of this mission is to discover why the staff is unsatisfied and whether or not it amounts to gross mistreatment, and also whether or not there is any mismanagement. However, the fact remains that most stuff of that nature usually do not reach such levels that Jedi would actually intervene"

"I'm alright."

He then hears her say no sooner had he closed and secured the door behind them which only then he breathes a sigh of relief. Thought in the back his mind part him couldn't help notice how seem visibly shaken she was by the encounter which kinda made him worried a bit. As doubt in the back his mind form and was somewhat hard to quell.... that being if was it from the fight or him? At any rate, he ops not to dwell too much on that thought as he then replied.

"Well good hear that you're alright .... although am not quite sure what we're here for? As have admit details they gave was a bit sketchy at best....but just the same we've been ripped off."

His eyes then seem glance over and no less take in the state as well the sight of seem disrepair or care the room they were given. At which time she then seems to pick up on his question came forth reply.

"Yes, I feel that we have been ripped off, but the whole point of this mission is to discover why the staff is unsatisfied and whether or not it amounts to gross mistreatment, and also whether or not there is any mismanagement. However, the fact remains that most stuff of that nature usually do not reach such levels that Jedi would actually intervene."

At which time he then nods and spoke as he takes a quick peek at the food conservatory before turns back face her.

"Yeah, guess so ...thought this is not quite the stuff of nature that Jedi would interviene in but still the mission whole point regarding the staff is important to look into. So now were in and got their attention what the plan?"

"We may as well be asking room service. Please, take a look at the menu. I think we can also question the waiter about the management and the other issues of the hotel that aren't maintenance-related once the waiter arrives"

In a larger hotel, there could be significant differences between room service menu and the restaurant menu, but in smaller hotels, I expect the room service menu to be at least a subset of the restaurant menu, at most the restaurant menu itself, she thought, while thinking of what steps to take, depending on the outcome of this step. She knew that, sometimes, she would get different answers in a one-on-one setting vs. in a group meeting, and groupthink was a distinct possibility she couldn't rule out. However, [member="Ronin Wendigo"] only had a partial clue about what was going on at the hotel: maintenance neglect, restaurant requiring booking, high prices... they may as well be shooting the pilot episode of Dar'yaim Hotel or some other show about hotel mismanagement. Oh and if they have the opportunity to ask other guests, they should do it, too. A hotel that large wouldn't have a whole lot of staff, but if Ronin found that the food was up to no good, they should probably go to the kitchen as well. And not simply to file complaints, either. But if they did go to the kitchen, then Jessica would teach him pyro and cryo. She takes up the comm for the room service:

"I would like one serving of asparagus soup please"

"We may as well be asking room service. Please, take a look at the menu. I think we can also question the waiter about the management and the other issues of the hotel that aren't maintenance-related once the waiter arrives."

It was at that time with a shrug of agreement that after being handed the room service menu Ronin then somewhat flip thru it. Looking and reading thru the list of what seems to be a somewhat bland or generic list of food. That he, for the most part, figured was the common fare offered in most if not all the grubby motels or such one could find. And not quite he'd thought to expect a grand hotel such what this place seems to been once nor given the price they were charged to have.

" Well ok, the thought does seem to see what you mean.... although have say seem decent choice for a menu though sort not quite on par with I'll expect given the trouble and the price that receptionist charge us. But guess will go try this Karkan ribene if it's any good. And you? What you figured to try out from this list? "

"We'll question the waiter, and then eat. If there are problems with the food, then we can question the cooks"

Karkan ribene for Ronin, asparagus soup for her. Straightforward enough for the two of them to eat, and, since she could feel there was a lot of empty rooms, she expected a faster turnaround than if there was no vacancy in the hotel. But while the menu contained what [member="Ronin Wendigo"] termed the common fare of grubby hotels that actually had room service (low-quality motels may not even have room service to begin with, especially not in Wild Space), shorter menus were often common in smaller hotels, like the Crown Nebula. Although I was willing to give a chance to the Trandoshans when it comes to hotel management, even then the menu seems to be a little long. It had no less than a whopping 150 items, she thought, while the important bit was not so much the food quality itself, but the questioning of the Vratix waiter. The waiter finally arrived with dishes that clearly have nothing in common with fine china as she would expect from a luxury hotel. Even worse, it wasn't even china at all: it was more akin to takeout at those third-rate restaurants that she ate at on places such as Ord Pardron or even Agamar. As she picked up the tray with telekinesis, she could feel that the food, well, smelled rotten...

"Room service!"

"Mind if you could answer a few questions?" Jessica asked, while the Vratix waiter looked around to see whether there were other guests or other staffers.

"Sure, go ahead"

"How long have you been working here?"

"About a month or so. I left a Thyferra on fire whose authorities sold out the planet to the Sith when the fires were burning brightest, but the Trandoshan owner is rude to us and rude to the guests as well"

"Hold on, hold on, do the Trandoshan owner even do front desk duty at times?"

"Yes, unfortunately"

"We'll question the waiter, and then eat. If there are problems with the food, then we can question the cooks."

She then replied as he then takes another passing glance at the menu as he then put it down replied back.

"Well, i guess we could try to slip a question or two in when the waiter gets here. To maybe find out what the deal is with this place thought judging from that lady from the front desk. We might best watch it at first just till we can be sure they're not in with whoever float her jack up ....."

At which time his words were then cut short as a knock came from the door along with a voice.

"Room service!"

To which he then stood up then open the door let the waiter in and close the door shut after. In order make sure they got a bit more privacy as they then enter. When Jessica stood up and proceed to meet the waiter to then proceed to lead him where to place the food tray. And she then once the tray was placed on one the side table proceed to start conversing with the waiter as he then took in what was said to late add.

"So...wait...wait a minute .... so that one at the front desk was the owner? really? huh? Well, guess that explain some the interesting decor. But seriously..."

He then takes a somewhat reluctant bite albeit hide this fact from the waiter of the food. And find it be quite dry at the very least leaving an odd taste in his mouth then adds.

"If you were allowed to eat at the restaurant on duty, would you do it? Assume you can meet the conditions to do so"

"No, not even if priority reservation for free food at the restaurant was a fringe benefit of the job: you have seen it for yourself, the food is no good"

"Do you even have fringe benefits in the first place? In addition, are you even getting paid?"

"No fringe benefits, and payroll is very erratic at best. The owner claims everybody is incompetent, apparently"

While it's obvious the kitchen is part of the problem, judging by the dry Karkan ribene, and the rotten asparagus soup, what's causing it? she thought, suspecting causes such as conservator maintenance neglect, lowballing on ingredients and even possibly employee sabotage. Or possibly even an attempt to defraud, but the purpose of the mission is not so much to lay charges on Ithuvask but to determine if further action is required, usually under the form of a forensic audit, which is something most Shadows didn't even know it existed. [member="Ronin Wendigo"] must realize that the owner does not understand that, even on Trandosha, wallpapers that peel off the walls are a red flag, regardless of the motif. The kitchen was the next step for them, and little do they know was that the chefs were essentially free because no one else was in the restaurant or ordering room service at this time. But the Vratix waiter has one last question to ask the guests before they could even be brought to the kitchen in the first place. She could feel that she hasn't seen the last of the Trandoshan owner just yet...

"May we go to the kitchen please? We might have a few questions for the chefs before we proceed with the rest of our stay"

"Do you want to return the food?"

It was then while Jessica was conversing with the Room Service that came that he passingly took a few stab at the steak. And just as the guy said the place seem be not quite as one would expect. As sure enough the steak was seem as dryer than a Tattoine desert leather back .

"May we go to the kitchen please? We might have a few questions for the chefs before we proceed with the rest of our stay."

At any rate he then turn back to the guy as she spokes and he seem no less hesitant that as he replied.

"Do you want to return the food?"

And he in turn replied.

"Maybe...and have bit chat with the cook. But don't worry will try be discreet and not get you in trouble buddy."

He then stood with the plate in hand notioning to the guy as they followed behind him/

Now that they got out of room service, the Vratix waiter was happy to get out of the room to get another customer served with this very same horrid food. In doing so, the waiter accompanied [member="Ronin Wendigo"] and Jessica to the kitchen, while realizing that maybe some additional clues could be gleaned from questioning the cooks prior to the pyrokinesis and cryokinesis lessons. Even though she couldn't care less about the exact content of the 150 meals on the menu, she realized, upon arriving at the kitchen, that there were only two chefs. How in dar'yaim are they supposed to be able to cook any one of 150 meals unless the menu has a lot of commonality from a meal to another, or operate a very large restaurant? Also, a restaurant that has a customer base large enough to justify 150 items on the menu, even when accounting for appetizers, main courses and desserts combined, would have more than two chefs, she thought, ready to question the chefs. Since there was no activity whatsoever in the kitchen, she was able to get directly to the Pau'an executive chef for a short while.

"Before you actually get to the pyrokinesis lesson, I might have to question the executive chef, while returning the awful food"

"Welcome to Bumba's Eatery. What can I do for you?" Bumba asked Jessica.

"The asparagus soup smells rotten, the Karkan ribene is dry, almost as if it was frozen, there is just no freshness in what we ate from food service"

"In fact, the ingredients are frozen, for the most part, except when ingredients cannot be frozen; the Trandoshan owner doesn't let us buy fresh ingredients, claiming that it will eat into their profits"

"Also, how many plates do you serve in any given day?"

"50, maybe 60 on a good day"

"What else is wrong with this place?"

"The owner is a miser, and mistreats employees when they ask for their paychecks or when they make suggestions that may prove expensive to implement even though we have strong evidence of its impact, of how proper implementation of those measures will help the business"

It was midway after being led by the room service to the kitchen and their waiter leaving that Ronin passingly asked Jessica about when if by chance their lesson was to fall thru. And if he thought to be wise that they try it out on those that were responsible for such horrid dishes by the chance to which she then came forth reply back on her own way.

"Before you actually get to the pyrokinesis lesson, I might have to question the executive chef, while returning the awful food."

To which he figured with a nod let his intended reply known to her that he agreed her plan. As they soon come to the kitchen and were met by two beings who introduced themselves and keep his word let her interrogate them first while he stood the side and listen. Learn by her example about the subtle art of coax information from being without their knowledge until such time he felt he possibly able to interject into the conversation by speaking.

"Really well I guess that would seem odd given the price they're charging in this place and way the place looks. There seem to be quite a disconnect......"

"Thank you for your cooperation"

Well, well, well, what have we here? A hotel whose guests are routinely getting the short end of the stick, at the restaurant or in the rooms? There is only one way to save this hotel, buying the hotel from the Trando owner. However, to do that, the owners must be charged with crimes and prosecuted: Jedi don't deal in hostile takeovers without proof that the targets are doing evil, she thought, hoping that there would actually be charges to lay on the owner. After [member="Ronin Wendigo"] mentioning that the practices of Bumba's Eatery were odd for the pricing, and the resulting disconnect, now she was in the right frame of mind to actually attempt getting the lesson underway, hopefully using some ingredients that are used in ordinary karkan ribenes. She summoned another karkan ribene, using telekinesis, put that onto a plate and then presented the plate to Ronin as part of his pyrokinesis lesson. It might be her favorite item to teach, just that she had to be mindful of not assuming people will know thermodynamics, unless she knows a student well enough to say that they, in fact, know thermodynamics. That knowledge was effortlessly surfacing to her mind:

"Too often, people think of pyrokinesis and cryokinesis as weapons. Pyrokinesis can be used for a variety of non-combat purposes, such as cooking, welding, but a beginner would probably be better-advised to use pyrokinesis on an opponent's weapon if they were to use it in battle. Pyrokinesis is about making molecules dance at a certain tempo, called the temperature. Try making the ribene's molecules dance"

It was then after much talk exchanged between Jessica and the two Bumba's Eatery ended that it seems she then pause. Deep in a thought that he for a moment felt tempted to ask about their training. When soon after she snaps out her deep thought to then turn him and spoke just as a piece of karkan ribenes hover towards him. Then down again before him onto a plate which at first puzzled him as to what but soon became clear. As his gaze turns toward it and her as he listens...

"Often, people think of pyrokinesis and cryokinesis as weapons. Try making the ribene's molecules dance,"

To which take on account what she said and his eagerness to learn possibly a new skill he nods and gets to it by reply back.

"I see well alright will see give it shot..."

With that said he then using some the skill, he'd learn thus far to concentrate and call upon the force to try focuse it towards the piece of meet upon the plate. Which at first seem work a bit of steam rose from it as he began to agitate the liquid within the meat. To slowly heat it up from the inside when a slight distraction from the reaction from a passing waiter that just came in to drop off another dissatisfied meal from a guest. That seems had been enough to shift his concentration towards the nearby dirty linen thrown onto the countertop that it then soon burst into flames.

Poodoo, she thought, while seeing the dirty linen burst into flames by [member="Ronin Wendigo"]'s concentration being thrown off-balance by another dissatisfied Harch customer returning a meal. Of which there wasn't a whole lot. It was then that she started calming down the molecules by first solving for their vibrational molecular speed in her head and then taking out the heat side of the triangle of fire once those calculations were done. Now that the dirty linen ceased burning, after a little burst of computational power expenditure, she proceeded to throw said linen into the nearest trash bin that wasn't for the food. Then again she could sense that Ronin didn't even heat the steak to the point where it could even be considered to be bleu, much less rare, to say nothing of higher donenesses. Jessica was a little disturbed, but she acknowledged that Ronin was still a beginner and that it took longer for him to get the karkan ribene cooked than it was for her. And yet, a thousand-parsec journey would begin with a few meters. Her own beginnings in pyrokinesis were certainly smoother, where she heated up a baseball base with no real issues.

"Concentration is key here. Also, because you were distracted, you left an unfinished job of using pyrokinesis to cook the karkan ribene. Get the karkan ribene cooked and then we can move on to the next and final topic. We shall see if that karkan ribene is any better than the one you ate"
