The CSR-50i came from necessity. The Trade Defense Force was lacking an in-house sniper rifle and after going through many tests of several different weapon systems, particularly interestedin ApexTech and Republic Engineering Corporation models the Trade Federation finally came about the development of the CSR-50i Slugthrower Sniper Rifle. The selection of a slugthrower platform came from one of the first significant conflicts of the newly re-constituted Trade Defence Force in the form of the Obredaan Hostage Crisis of 861ABY where a Sith affiliated terrorist group went about the seizure of a Trade Federation Cortosis weave production facility. Before the widespread control of the New Imperial Order on the planet as a result of staking claim on surrounding systems, the Trade Federation was the primary means of authority on the world for the short interim between Keshiri Empire in-exile control and NIO's authority over the world.
Sith connected terrorists saw this vulnerability and sought to gather a steep ransom payment from the Trade Federation in exchange for the preservation of its Cortosis facility on the planet. Thus an attack was staged and successful, with the ring leader taking the Jin'ha production foreman captive in the upper levels of the facility. From outside of the manufactory, a Trade Defense Force sniper sought to secure a shot with a blaster sniper rifle, only for it to be deflected by the swipe of the ring leaders lightsaber and the foreman was killed as a result, making way for a greater exchange that might've been prevented by a more suitable arm. Thus the CSR-50i was developed as a result, with its hyper accelerated and therefore difficult to deflect or block reflexively electromagnetic slugs acting as the utilized system of the weapon with a variable change in payload and coating of the slug to allow for different uses in different roles or situations be it armor penetrating to slam through cover or high explosive to disperse and damage a gathered group of hostiles.
