The CST Toscan 8-R, based on the hull design of the Shobquix Yards Toscan 8-Q, is the companies first open market fighter design. The 8-R's primary armament of two particle cannons may seem light at first, but like most particle cannon weaponry the individual weapons pack a powerful punch. This punch comes at a price though. The cannons have a low rate of fire, and the cannons are generally set to an alternating fire mode, meaning only one bolt is usually fired at any one time. Along with its particle cannon armament, the Toscan is armed with two universal launch tubes, allowing it to load torpedoes, missiles, bombs, small mines, and any other kinds of ordinance.
While a fairly average fighter overall, the CST version of the Toscan notably puts speed over agility, making it more suited for boom and zoom tactics. While this may be a turn off to some, the add speed also allows the multi-role fighter to function in a pursuit role. Like other recent CST starships, the 8-R was made to be able to be modified as well, though not to the same extent as the recent freighters.
