STRENGTHS
  • Crystal Gravfield Trap - A highly expensive and specialized sensor system, these devices are the only known reliable means to detect a vessel that is utilizing an active Cloaking Device.
  • Carrier - The Cuirassier-class was designed with the capability to maintain and deploy up to four squadrons of Starfighters as well as being capable of deploying an additional three squadrons of support craft.
  • Increased Mobility - These vessels were designed to prioritize speed and maneuverability rather than heavier armaments. This design focus has produced a vessel that is relatively faster and capable of reaching higher Sublight speeds than similarly sized vessels of its classification.
WEAKNESSES
  • Limited Production - Due to the prohibitive expenses of developing, producing, and deploying these vessels, their design run was limited to only a dozen or fewer of these vessels.
  • Automated - Many of the internal systems were automated to allow for a smaller crew to operate these vessels. However, this renders them vulnerable to Ion-based weaponry or similar weaponry designed to disable or overwhelm electrical systems. If these systems were disabled or destroyed, it would place a higher demand on the limited crew and could potentially lead to the vessel being rendered inoperable.
  • Light Cruiser - The Cuirassier-class was not designed to stand toe-to-toe against heavier vessels or even well-armed Frigates. With its focus on speed and maneuverability, it lacks the heavier armaments often associated with Cruisers.
DESCRIPTION
The Cuirassier-class is a design that has been in development limbo for countless years until its recent limited-run production. Originally conceptualized during the days of the Confederacy of Independent Systems, these vessels were not produced at that time due to the cost-prohibitive primary component, the Crystal Gravfield Trap. Following the resurgence of elements of the Maw Brotherhood, now christened as the "Dark Empire"; and their utilization of one or more Capital Vessels that had been outfitted with Cloaking Devices, the need to ensure that the Alliance could detect these vessels became paramount. Production of the Cuirassier-class began immediately even as the Dark Empire solidified their hold on the Deep Core after their successful invasion of the Tython and Empress Teta Systems.

Each vessel was designed to be highly automated, permitting a smaller contingent to properly crew the vessel with the same efficiency and capability as a larger crew. This was accomplished by utilizing droid brains and automated systems to maintain Secondary and Tertiary Systems that would otherwise require a dedicated Technician to oversee and maintain. However, this automation also renders the vessel vulnerable to Ion-based weaponry and similar weaponry that can disable, damage, or destroy delicate electrical systems. In this case, the vessel could be potentially rendered inoperable as the crew would not be sufficient enough to maintain these systems. Likewise, the vessel was not designed to serve as a mainline warship, with its designation as a light cruiser being evident in its smaller arsenal than what is common on Cruisers of its size.

Having prioritized speed and maneuverability, these vessels are capable of reaching Sublight Speeds higher than what is commonly capable for a vessel of its size, allowing it to outpace, overtake, or otherwise escape from similarly sized vessels or larger Star Destroyers. The lack of additional weapon systems has also provided the vessel with additional hangar capacity as they are capable of maintaining and deploying up to four squadrons of Starfighters. Additionally, these vessels are also capable of deploying an additional three squadrons of Support Craft from secondary hangar bays. As the Galactic Alliance fights back against the encroaching darkness, the Cuirassier-class is being deployed at a vital moment, when there is a need to shine a light into the dark and reveal the enemies that lurk within.
