CV-1 Gas Grenade (The Choking Veil)
"It's not elegant. It's not perfect. But it kills. That's all that matters for now." - Serina Calis

SPECIAL FEATURES
Basic Lethal Gas Cloud: Upon detonation, the grenade releases a dense, gray-green toxic mist that lingers for approximately 30 seconds before dispersing.
Inhalation-Based Poisoning: The gas primarily attacks the respiratory system, causing intense suffocation, lung failure, and asphyxiation.
Basic Containment System: The gas is stored in a low-pressure chemical chamber, requiring violent rupture to disperse the payload.
Limited Area of Effect: The grenade affects only a 3-meter radius, meaning placement and use require careful positioning.

STRENGTHS
Fast-Acting Toxin: Victims begin choking and gasping for air within seconds of inhalation, leading to incapacitation in under a minute.
Untraceable Chemical Composition: Created from repurposed industrial waste, making forensic analysis difficult.
Cheap & Easy to Make: Requires only common chemicals and basic fabrication tools, allowing Serina to produce them in makeshift conditions.
Silent Deployment: Unlike explosives, the grenade does not make a loud noise, making it ideal for assassinations and ambushes.

WEAKNESSES
Easily Countered by Rebreathers & Gas Masks: A simple breathing filter negates its effects entirely.
Short-Lived Toxic Cloud: The gas disperses quickly in open spaces, making it less effective outdoors or in high-wind conditions.
Limited Lethality Against Physically Strong Targets: A highly trained or exceptionally tough target may survive by holding their breath or escaping the area quickly.
Ineffective Against Droids & Non-Organic Targets: Since it only affects biological respiration, droids and non-breathing species are completely immune.

DESCRIPTION
The Choking Veil Gas Grenade represents Serina Calis's first real attempt at designing a chemical weapon, marking the earliest phase of her study into poisons and toxins. Devoid of Sith alchemy or supernatural enhancements, this grenade relies purely on traditional chemistry, showcasing Serina's raw ingenuity and ability to create lethal tools despite her lack of formal training at the time.

At first glance, the Choking Veil appears professionally manufactured, a detail Serina ensured with meticulous care. The grenade's outer casing is made from salvaged industrial durasteel, but she went through great effort to refine its presentation, ensuring it did not look like a crude, makeshift device. Each grenade is polished to a smooth metallic finish, its seams are carefully sealed, and it carries an elegant pink rubberized grip—a personal touch Serina added to mark it as her creation. She took immense pride in its appearance, believing that even a weapon of death should reflect aesthetic refinement.

However, beneath this pristine exterior lies a simple but brutal killing mechanism. Inside the grenade is a volatile chemical payload, derived from scavenged industrial waste, smuggled pesticides, and illegally procured laboratory compounds. The core stores a pressurized liquid form of the toxin, which, upon detonation, ruptures into a rapidly expanding mist, forming a thick, suffocating cloud that clings to surfaces and lingers for up to thirty seconds before dispersing.

Upon inhalation, the gas immediately attacks the respiratory system, causing a violent burning sensation in the lungs, accompanied by intense coughing fits. Within seconds, the victim's airways begin to tighten, making each breath increasingly shallow and ineffective. Those exposed for longer than fifteen seconds experience full respiratory failure, as the chemical agents cause fluid buildup in the lungs, leading to suffocation and eventual asphyxiation. Victims who do not die outright from the gas often collapse into unconsciousness due to oxygen deprivation.

Though effective, the Choking Veil Gas Grenade is not without its weaknesses. Due to Serina's inexperience in gas warfare at this stage, the design suffers from several flaws. The toxic cloud disperses quickly in open-air environments, making it ineffective outdoors or in areas with strong ventilation. Additionally, any standard military-grade rebreather or gas mask renders it completely useless, as it relies solely on inhalation-based poisoning with no secondary effects on exposed skin. Furthermore, highly disciplined combatants can temporarily resist the effects by holding their breath and escaping the cloud before it fully takes hold.

Despite these limitations, the Choking Veil remains a testament to Serina's ingenuity, demonstrating her ability to turn raw materials into a deadly weapon, even at the earliest stage of her knowledge. The grenade is not elegant in function, but in form, it is strikingly refined—a contradiction that reflects Serina's current nature. She saw this weapon as the first step toward something greater, an initial experiment in manipulating life and death through chemistry alone. While later weapons would become far more insidious, the Choking Veil was the foundation upon which all her future works would be built.
