Cyrilla Ky'lik

This is a work in progress. I'm posting this mostly so I can get a thread up and (hopefully) edit it at work.

NAME: Cyrilla Ky'lik
FACTION: Jedi
RANK: Padawan/Knight (Depending on timeline? Haven't decided yet)
SPECIES: Cathar
AGE: 23
GENDER: Female
HEIGHT: 1.7 m
WEIGHT: 61 kg
EYES: Jade
MANE: Bronze
FUR: Brown/Red/Yellow
FORCE SENSITIVE: Yes

STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES:

Her temper and stubbornness, as well as her past, have lent her a preference for aggressive and immediate resolutions to conflict at the expense of peacemaking and mediation. Cyrilla has come to view the Jedi Code cynically, believing that it is impractically idealistic and irreconcilable with the real world. She is no stranger to using questionable means to achieve her goals, such as executions and lies, firmly believing that the ends justify the means. This has led her perilously close to the Dark Side.

While possessing the natural agility and grace of the Cathar race, Cyrilla is not an extraordinary fighter. Her lightsaber skills are above average, at best, but that hasn’t stopped her from trying to master the Ataru (FACT CHECK FORM) form, having found that the dual-wielding form couples well with her natural ferocity and aggression. That being said, Cyrilla is not afraid to engage in hand-to-hand combat, relying on her feline grace and instincts to carry her through dangerous situations.

While her martial skills are not stellar, Cyrilla possess a keen connection with the Force, allowing her supreme control of the elemental aspects. She is most talented as a healer, able to mend devastating wounds and injuries. Her skills are not limited to restoration, however, as she is also able to subtly manipulate the intricate physiologies and anatomies of most creatures.

BIOGRAPHY:

Cyrilla Ky’lik was born to a family of hunter-gatherers of the Ky’lik tribe on her native Cathar. Her older sister Miri Ky’lik was a star athlete and huntress, known throughout the lands for her exploits in bringing to heel many of the feral beasts and animals. Cyrilla grew up in the shadow of Miri’s martial achievements, and always strove to reach the impossible marks set by her sister. However, despite her best efforts, she fell far short. Others of her cohort bullied her for her martial failings and physical weaknesses, breeding in the young Cathar a deep hate for those who prey on the weak.

Because of her inadequacies, Cyrilla turned away from the typical martial activities familiar to most growing Cathar, and focused instead on the sciences. She developed a keen knack for the biological world, and consistently surprised her teachers and family with her natural abilities. She even earned her sister’s respect by healing Miri of an ailment acquired during one of her adventures.

It was during her early pre-teen years that Cyrilla was discovered by a travelling Jedi, who sensed her natural Force affinity. She was then taken to the Jedi Temple, where she has learned to mostly control her anger and to focus her Force powers.

ROLE-PLAYS:
New Jedi Order – Thread detailing an adventure in which Cyrilla ventures dangerously away from the Light Side.
Winds of Change – Following the (unwritten) events of New Jedi Order, Cyrilla has decided to strike out on her own and clean up Nar Shadda, all without official Jedi Order sanctioning. Her (questionable) actions have caught the attention of the Sith Empire, who has sent an agent to acquire her.

Interesting character. I hope you've developed some foibles on those healing abilities e.g. duration etc, but that'd be my sole concern on this one. Looks like you've done a thorough job :) Welcome to the party!

Calm yourself, Iago. There's enough weaknesses in the bio, and you're talking to someone who can responsibly RP a healer without being all 'derp, I keep you alive as you take a turbolaser barrage to the face'.

That’s an interesting idea. I’ve never really viewed Force powers in the same light of spells and magic. I’ve always seen them as organic creations, with the nuances of their effects dependent on the individual generating the Force spell. As such, I’ve never really thought such things as duration or whatnot.

That being said, I’ve always RPed Cyrilla as being able to “see” the physiology and anatomy of a person, as if she is viewing a schematic and diagram. From there, she is guided by the Force to fix and repair things, more by intuition than by knowledge. As she’s trained and grown, her ability has gotten stronger, so her intuition has grown stronger and more accurate, and she’s able to execute more intricate repairs.

I’ll have to review Wookiepedia’s collection of Force healing techniques to familiarize myself with them.

Also, this is Asemir Lor’kora. :)

Interesting concept there, @[member="Cyrilla Ky'lik"]. I always go with the idea that the Force itself senses what's wrong with the individual - the Force User simply applies their senses and knowledge to the patient to work out the issue (in essence, visualising the blockage/trauma/misalignment etc). The actual repair isn't conducted by the Healer, though: that's a result of the body's natural repair mechanisms and an influx of concentrated Force Energy to the site of the damage, using those same mechanics to augment the healing process. Evidence in the EU suggests that it's a drawn-out process and often takes hours at a time to do, requiring complete concentration on the part of the healer (or the injured, in the case of self-healing processes, such as Healing Trance). That's my take on it, anyway :)

We'll have to sit down and discuss it a little more! Good to know that it's you though, Asemir :)

Well, my thinking is actually along those lines. I just didn't express myself properly, I guess. :p When I say the healer repairs the injury, I mean that she will use the Force to accelerate the body's natural healing process. The wound isn't healed immediately; there would be recovery time, of course.

So, I suppose our two views are actually very similar!

Oh, and I see that you are Tidarius! It's hard to tell who's who with all these different character accounts. Haha.

To my amusement and your annoyance, this is one of the many times when EU does it BOTH ways. I could cite good sources for both of those thinking processes. Ergo, healing can be done in both ways.

@[member="Cyrilla Ky'lik"] - Yup, that last part's always an issue. 'tis why I didn't cotton on to you being Asemir until Ashin mentioned it. As for the Healing...yes, we definitely have similar views. Good thing too, considering that we're part of the same faction. Consistency, people... ;)

And, yes, EU does go both ways on this, but I rather feel it depends on the writer as to what you get. Matt Stover, Timothy Zahn, James Luceno - they tend to be the more reliable writers in terms of offering an account of how the Force gets used. The two Medstar books make the technique fairly clear, too, thank goodness. There are just some writers that I wouldn't trust to write a good account, though. And the less said about the two Darth Bane books, the better... *rolls eyes*
