- Name: Dantari Shard Drake
- Designation: Semi-Sentient
- Origins: Alchemical Construction by the Shaper
- Average Lifespan: Between 25 and 30 Galactic Standard Years
- Estimated Population: Rare
- Description: Ranging in coloration from soft blues to deep blacks on their scales and vibrant oranges to rich purples in their crystalline formations the Dantari Shard Drake are surprisingly vibrant or, at the very least, colorful for a product of alchemical creation. Especially one crafted by a Sith. The species is varied not only in their coloration but also in just how much of the Dantari crystals utilized in their creation is visible upon them. From being only minor, horn-like protrusions to a complete covering over their body and scales, these small creatures stand on four legs, two frontal and two hind, and possess a tail behind their hind legs. Most also possess a set of wings, though there are a rare few defects created without them.
- Breathes: Type I and Type II
- Average Height of Adults: 1.2 meters
- Average Length of Adults: 2 meters
- Skin color: Conceivably any and every color.
- Hair color: N/A
- Distinctions: A few of the distinct characteristics of the Dantari Shard Drake tend involve it's level of maturity. Not only will the creature grow in size, but it's scales will harder and become tougher as it grows older. Which causes an increase to the creature's weight and, subsequently, even it's limited ability to glide is lost as it matures fully. Perhaps the most distinct feature of the Shard Drake lies in it's death as, when it finally expires, it's entire body becomes a formation of Dantari crystal. Within which a solitary egg can be found and hatched within three to four months. This egg does not hatch an offspring, exactly, rather a reincarnation of the previous Drake that contains all the previous memories of it's former life cycle.
- Races: N/A
- Force Sensitivity: All
- Rebirth: After death the Dantari Shard Drake forms a new egg inside it's own crystalline remains and, after a time, gives birth to a new copy of itself. Complete with all the memories of it's previous life.
- True Companionship: Despite being a product of alchemy and created by a Sith, the Shard Drakes are not inherently connected to the Dark Side. Rather they imprint themselves with the Force signature of another during their adolescence and, subsequently, form not only a Force Bond with their owners but come to copy their owner's alignment in the Force.
- Limited Telepathy: Though not capable of true 'speech' the Shard Drake is able to telepathically communicate with an owner it has bonded to in simple emotions and 'feelings'.
- Falling with Style: Though not able to truly fly the Shard Drakes are able to glide in their youth incredibly well.
- Built by a Master: Though intended to be little more than pets for those who wish to own one the Shard Drakes are nonetheless incredibly resilient to both blunt or kinetic impacts and extreme temperatures.
- Lingering Legacy: Though the Shard Drakes will take on the Force signature of their owner and bond with them for life, like all things the Shaper creates they are subservient to him first and foremost. A Shard Drake can, at the Shaper's influence, turn upon it's owner. In addition, whether an intentionally cruel design or simple happenstance, the Drake will not betray their owners consciously and will be both heartbroken and distressed if forced to turn on their owners. Two sensations a bonded owner of a Shard Drake will likely have to share with the pet.
- Cold as Ice: In exchange for their intense resilience to heat and much like the cold-blooded reptiles they are crafted in the shape of, the Shard Drakes are highly susceptible to extreme cold. Though if a Shard Drake freezes to death it will attempt to reincarnate by crystallizing itself to protect it's egg, though even this only buys it time.
- Sterile: The Shard Drakes, though able to rebirth themselves, cannot breed. Their numbers will only ever be what they are, unable to grow or spread.
- Circumstantial Rebirth: For a Shard Drake to reincarnate enough of it's body must survive after it's death to house it's next egg. Generally speaking this egg is roughly the size of it's torso and, as such, any damage that kills one of the Shard Drakes that would leave it's body in ruins prevents it from reincarnating.
- Diet: Terravore. The Dantari Shard Drake consumes dirt, earth, rocks and minerals. With metals such as Silver and Gold being like catnip to them and plant matter, such as grass or leaves, being poisonous to them.
- Communication: Though able to communicate with their owners in a limited telepathic sense the Shard Drakes otherwise emit a series of cooing purrs, yips, yelps and burbles when around others of their own kind or sentient beings other than their owners.
- Technology level: N/A
- Religion/Beliefs: N/A
- General behavior: The general behavior of a Dantari Shard Drake depends all but entirely on the owner with which they are bonded to. They are all but dependent on instruction and care from their owners for how they will interact with the world, though they will attempt to feed themselves unless otherwise instructed not to eat something. They are unconcerned with mating, as they do not mate, and all but a blank canvas to become a wonderful companion to whoever their owner may be.
Crafted by the Shaper when news reached the Sith Empire of the coming invasion by the New Imperial Order the Dantari Shard Drakes are, in all honesty, a product of manipulation by the Sith Lord. Fashioned to be the perfect companion, marketable and all but irresistible to those foolish enough to find it's cute appearance desirable, they were purely designed to remind those who came to the Sith Empire's aid exactly what could be lost if Dantooine fell the New Imperial Order. After all, if more Shard Drakes were to be made, how could the Shaper possibly do so if Dantooine fell into the grubby hands of their enemies? Truly it would be a tragedy all who would come to love the little creatures would find most regrettable. The very first batch of Shard Drakes were presented to those who answered the Sith Empire's call to arms in defense of the rural planet and, should those in the galaxy want any more to be made, that will solely depend on whether the planet stays right where it belongs. In the Sith Empire's hands.
