Dark Beginnings

The Cataphract drifted peacefully in orbit around Kalee. The sentient beings of the world below were experiencing anything but peace, yet the great expanse cared little for their petty disputes. The void of space was as close to a Sith one could find in nature. Cold, unforgiving and uncomrpomising. A powerful and stubborn entity; one could not change or manipulate it, but rather had to accept playing by its rules and making the best out what was given. There were countless of opportunities to thrive within those rules, but to challenge to void was to embrace defeat and death. It was absolute, free of chains.

The Cataphract had travelled to Kalee alone and without an escort, and it would leave in similar fashion. Its destination was known only to Darth Pyrrhus himself, who just recently had arrived via a transport from the surface. It was not that its destination was a top secret operation, although as usual Pyrrhus preferred to keep things on a need to know basis. The less complications the better. Although he had arrived and all members of crew were onboard, the Cataphract did not move. He was waiting for one more still.

The young Sith Acolyte had been left to his own devices and told to report back to the Lord of Ruin once he was done. Victory or defeat, he would make his way to this ship or it would come find him and learn why. Although in their first encounter Pyrrhus had greeted him with a touch more displeasure than the boy was no doubt used to, his conviction and ability to act on it did him credit. Yet there was little cause to praise action without results. Until he saw it through to the goal, Drios had accomplished nothing. However, even if others would have approached the matter differently, if Drios did succeed then that did not matter. As long as he acheived the same results then that made him right, regardless of what tools he used to get there. There was hope for this one yet.

The doors slid closed behind the tall Togruta, who had made it into his own chambers. While he was waiting for matters to be conlcuded on Kalee, he had a little reading to do. “Bring up the file on Drios Rapux.” he requested in a clear tone. Activated by the voice-command function, the Acolyte’s file was brought up in the middle of the room by way of holographic project. Pyrrhus studied it, scrolling through files and pages, seeking whatever useful information they had on him.

The looming mass of The Cataphract dwarfed the vessel which held Drios Rapux, the young Sith Acolyte, hailing from a noble family upon Panatha. He was but a stranger to the Galaxy, but had already taken part in several missions with his superiors, The Sith Ascendancy. However now was the time for him to begin his real training, under a real Sith.

The Epicanthix had been ordered to rendezvous with the Sith Lord known as [member="Darth Pyrrhus"] after he had completed his work upon Kalee, where he fought with and against the local species and the Force Hunters attempting to take over the planet too. He himself had deemed it a successful venture, but others would likely debate this.

Drios had already sensed the Togruta's displeasure upon Kalee, and silently dreaded what the Lord would say to him.

Nevertheless, he had rushed from the planet to the Sith's ship with no haste, for he hoped that promptness would help quell whatever doubts the Togruta held against him. Upon boarding, the Epicanthix was escorted by an official-looking officer toward wherever Darth Pyrrhus was upon his grand vessel, as the labyrinth of corridors and blast doors served only to confuse Drios.

"Lord Pyrrhus' private quarters. Lord Pyrrhus should be waiting for you inside." the officer said, before briskly turning upon his heel and marching away down the ship.

Doubtless the Lord of Ruin was aware of Drios' arrival before the doors slid open with a dying hiss. Even so, it was the Togruta's back the Epicanthix saw first. It was his business to know every in and out of his own ship. A simpler task now that he had scaled down somewhat.

As anticipated Kalee would be absorbed into the Sith Ascendancy's sphere of influence. Drios had played his role in it all. Pyrrhus had access to the appropriate channels that kept him informed. No surprises had waited for them in space either, so for the Togruta it had been a rather dull and mundane affair. This was no Mindabaal, or even Amar. Those campaigns had required a little more hands-on approach from him. Or actually, Mindabaal had been like a wonderful get-away. In any case, matters had resolved themselves without much hiccups.

How would Drios' report read? How would it compare? Would he play up his role, be humble, or give something resembling the truth? It was a hard thing, balancing facts with one's own emotions and desires. If he disappointed again, what then? Punishment? Demotion? Worse? The allure of words the recipient wanted to hear always had a way to seem more tempting than the cold truth.

"Drios Rapux of Panatha" there it was again, that hint mild disdain. Of Panatha. Not the Sith. Where did his true loyalties lie? Could they be combined? Would he become the soldier or the commander? Only time and trial would show.

"Report. What is your assessment of our operation on Kalee? What sort of activity do you expect to see from the natives in the months to come?" Force be good and it wouldn't turn into another Csilla.
