SPECIAL FEATURES
- Climate controlled and hermetically sealed, allowing for protection against vacuum.
- Helmet is fitted with same features as standard Sith armor
- Basic energy shielding
- Powered exoskeleton
- The use of thick phrik plating allows for a significant degree of protection against lightsabers and most conventional firepower.
- The wearer of the armor has significantly enhanced strength when compared to an ordinary Dark Trooper - even allowing them to wield heavy weapons as though they were standard infantry weapons.
- The exoskeleton is large, bulky, and slower to run around in when compared to normal armor.
- The armor is vulnerable to electromagnetic pulses and ion weaponry, and does not have enhanced protection against sonic, radiation, or other weapon types.
Desiring to give a greater level of protection to the commanders of Dark Trooper units, Vanessa Vantai had all remaining information regarding the Dark Trooper project directed to her, particularly examples of the Phase III variation. Physical acquisition of a prototype allowed for dissection and reverse-engineering of the Empire's most powerful ground-based body armor.
The Commander Exoskeleton has several differences from the Phase III - it is less technologically complex and cannot be operated without someone wearing it, compared to the droid-like nature of the original armor. It also lacks in in-built weaponry - it has neither the wrist blasters nor the missile tubes of the Phase III. What it does have is thick phrik plating almost completely encasing an armorweave bodyglove, allowing for exceptional protection from almost all conventional weaponry, including lightsabers. The exoskeletal design of the suit allows for the wearer to wield heavy weapons as though they were rifles, and rifles as though they were pistols - significantly increasing their lethality and giving them a bone-crushing grip.
However, the Commander Exoskeleton has several misgivings. Designed to protect against conventional armaments, it does not have high levels of protection against exotic weaponry such as sonic, ion, or radiation weapons. Ion weapons in particular are quite effective against a Commander Exoskeleton, though the intent is for a Dark Trooper Commander wearing the suit to be reinforced by other supporting troopers who could thus engage enemies with such exotic weaponry.
