  • Compact. Designed to be a weapon that a Squib could comfortably carry and use, this is the blaster pistol you want if you're a meter tall (looking at you, Chadra-Fan and Tynnans). This caused it to be classified as a Hold-Out Blaster by the humanocentric standards of the galaxy. A human could tuck this into a waistband or otherwise conceal carry it.
  • Sucker Punch. Even in comparison to a full-sized blaster pistol, the Darkwire packed a surprising amount of power.
  • Variable Firing Modes. Designed as both an anti-personnel and anti-droid weapon, the Darkwire had a dual firing mechanism that could be rotated out on the fly to change from plasma to ion at the flip of a switch.
  • Hold-Out Grenade. When your back is to the wall, overload that power cell and get ready for the fireworks.

  • Reload. The power cell was sized for the blaster. Small blaster, small power cell.
  • Overly Complicated. The Darkwire was a computerized blaster pistol. This made it vulnerable to ion or electromagnetic interference, especially as the trigger lock was computer-controlled using a biometric sensor.
  • Pistol, Not A Rifle. This has average performance for a pistol, but is still intended for close quarters.
  • No Manual Scope. Due to its compact size, the weapon only featured a basic targeting laser, which was meant to feed target data to an external, third-party interface as part of the computerized interface scope. If one didn't have cybernetic eyes, a helmet HUD, or some other kind of wearable combat overlay then they wouldn't have the ability to make use of the digital scope.

The Darkwire Phased Pulse Pistol was originally envisioned to be a standard sidearm for the group. Except, they're less of a group and more a loose collection of cells, activists, extremists, teenagers, and punks who have a surplus of personality and a deficit of cash. In addition to which, the Squib found that trying to use weapons designed by humans, for humans, was a losing game for him. And most hold-out blasters were, to be frank, crap. So the Squib set out to design a better blaster for himself and then if it worked for the humans, good for them. They had plenty of their own.

He should know, he made some of them.

As a result, the Darkwire became reflective of the Squib's personality, which overcomplicated the design. For this reason, only a few were made but some of those were known to end up on the black market through the group's connections with the G'uotr Network. The Darkwire was both a plasma blaster and an ion blaster, with a switch on the side allowing the user to switch the firing modes of the weapon on the fly. A biometric scanner in the trigger could be mapped and locked to a single user. This feature could be managed and controlled by the included Tails virtual assistant. While the weapon did not have a physical scope, it could connect with a compatible HUD for targeting guidance.
