“There are no beautiful surfaces without a terrible depth.”
―Friedrich Nietzsche
"The mark of the Rin'Kurre was burned upon his crypt, a warning to all of Lao-Mon that the terror within must never be freed. There he lies still, and ever more, in silent suffering. May the sum of his sins never be absolved, may the blood on his hands never dry, and may he never wake again."
—The Chronicles of Woe, Fall of Malignus, 791 BBY

A favorite among many intimidating forms. |
As a member of the Shi'ido species, Malignus's natural form is that of a small, pale humanoid with deep set eyes, a wide mouth, and furrowed skin. Though, as is the case with many of his kind, his birth-form has been entirely forsaken in favor of other guises. Many of which border on horrifying realism and depraved absurdism. There appears to be no limit to Malignus's macabre imagination when constructing new appearances.
The form most attributed to Malignus, and the most ubiquitous of his known forms is that of a dusky, avian humanoid with massive wings, alien anatomical detail across its exaggerated muscularity, and a helmet-like structure for a head that encloses a pale, near human face. It was this reviled configuration, known colloquially as the Hawk of Perdition, that struck fear into the minds of Lao-mon's inhabitants for over five decades during his despotic reign several centuries past.
Among all his exteriors, the one which he considers his primary configuration is that of a tall human-like male with pallid, freckled skin, long silvery hair, and and lithe and elegant frame. It is an unoffending, pleasant form in stark contrast to almost all of his other guises. All aspects of that appearance are were constructed to comform to his ideal appearance as an individual, and as such is what he considers to be his own true face.

Early Life
Darth Malignus, born Baalzephon Mishra, was the fifth and youngest child of Liluri Mishra, matriarch of clan Ish'sah, Lords of Ba'tae. His father was allegedly a wayward Force Master Shi'ido expatriated from Lao-Mon at a young age by a unspecified Force Order. This father apparently had no pains about leaving the child to the clan. Rather he was content to completely estrange himself from the clan shortly after conception.
Little is known about Baalzephon's childhood, and the veracity of the information that has been documented and uncovered is questionable. What is certain, is that all five siblings each became their own flavor of wonderchild and were at constant bitter odds with one another for the approval and affection of their aloof mother. More so than any of the five, Baalzephon was particularly disliked by his older siblings. Noy only because he was the most successful in their competition for maternal affection, but also that they were often times disgusted or unsettled by his demeanor and mannerisms. Even as a child it was noted that Baalzephon was particularly vindicate, cruel, and manipulative. Whether he was born that way, or if he developed these traits due to his upbringing and struggle for paternal notice is up to interpretation.
Sibling rivalry came to a head in his second decade, still rather young by Shi'ido and Ish'sah standards. Baalzephon systematically murdered each of his older siblings by means that varied greatly in brutality and surreptitiousness. These eliminations put him in direct line for the position of Ish'sah Patriarch and Lord of Ba'tae. Several years later, he married outside of the Ish'sah. A loveless, unconsummated, political union meant purely to expand Ish'sah influence.
The origin of Baalzephon's introduction and advancement within the Sith arts is unclear. From apprentice to self-proclaimed Lord is estimated in Benandanti speculation and memory, which has been subsequently recorded by various third-parties, to have taken anywhere from twenty to thirty years. Within this time, he would become the Clan Patriarch and Lord of Ba'tae, and accounts of his decadence and cruelty become ever more frequent and severe. All the while, his identity as Sith was kept hidden from even those closest to him.
His marriage partner would dissappear at the end of this peroid, though it is unknown if she was killed, exiled or simply removed in some other capacity. Following this, Baalzephon staged his own death, which plunged Ish'sah and its enveloped territories into crisis. It would be then that Baalzephon would reappear, in a new assumed form as the Hawk of Perdition, proclaiming himself Darth Malignus. With overwhelming socererous force, he would eventally subjugate a majority of Lao-Mon's inhabitants over a decade span. Following this was the Great Purge, in which political enemies, the Ish'sah clan, and furtive force sensitives were removed from Lao-Mon's collective picture.
Fall of the Domination
Fifty years under the stygian fist of the Lord of Perdition, and the rebellion was at the peak of its power. Many unsuccessful attempts to kill or defeat Malignus resulted in the death of thousands. Eventually, the conclusion that he could not, at the time, be wholly destroyed without the presence of other powerful force users. Instead, the Benandanti concocted a plan to coax him into a incessant slumber in lieu of more fruitless attempts to kill him. This plan proved successful, and crypt was built around the very spot where he lapsed into dream so that he would never be disturbed or roused.
The Death of Dreams
The Benandanti used their Dreamwalking to calm the stirring of the slumbering evil within the crypt. For centuries, Malignus's slumber was still and uneventful. Until, at some moment, like the spontaneity of the big bang itself, the slumbering dark lord found a semi-lucid state of consciousness within his unceasing rest. Unable to wake himself or influence anything beyond his dreams, he resigned himself to furtive observation of the somnial intruders that sought to keep him under.
As centuries passed, Malignus's dreaming consciousness began develop an understanding of the methods used by the Dreamwalkers. Every intrusion from then on was met with increasingly disturbing images and intensifying turbulence. Eventually, access to his slumber-bound imagery became unobtainable. Malignus's range of influence expanded from his sarcophagus, to the dreams of the unsuspecting and unwilling inhabitants of Lao-Mon. Through their sleeping hours, Malignus brainwashed cells of fanatics which would mount a menagerie of attempts to free him. None were successful...
Awakening
Until the Maw came with the passing of further centuries. Their newfound dominion over Lao-Mon has given the New Sith Order the means to rouse the Old Evil that now walks amongst the waking world for the first time in over a Millennium.
The extent and nature of Malignus's training is largely unknown. It is apparent that he is an extremely powerful force-presence with an inordinate command over the dark side of the force, as well as a talented practitioner of the arcane. A Mastery of Core Force manifestations and abilities are implied, and as such, only notable aptitudes will be listed below.
