Description:
The Laser-inhibiting Smoke or LIS was designed for use in either missile or grenade format. Conceived by Sasha Santhe the projectile would be launched and detonated on the battlefield releasing a special chemical gas with intense prismatic qualities which not only obscured vision and baffled basic ground sensors but also diffused the beams of lasers passing through the clouds. This chemical gas was designed from Dampener aerosol, however where an aerosol scatters and diffuses quickly the smoke can linger for longer periods of time.
Being smoke however this defensive system has several disadvantages, namely that it can blow away. The DAX-15 Smoke Grenade is filled with a pyrophoric agent exploding in a bright light and quickly spreading into a blue cloud from an internal bursting charge. When blasters are shot through this cloud they the end result is a hard slap instead of a deadly blast. in addition this smoke attenuates the power of any laser blast by 50% for every metre travelled. This grenade is especially effective on vehicles which may require fast concealment on the battlefield.
Although the smoke is effective on an open battlefield, at least on days without especially strong winds, the flash and resulting screen is best used indoors where a lack of wind conditions allow the smoke to settle and remain in place. The cloud however will also prevent the users own laser and blaster based weapons from operating effectively thus limiting the uses of the smoke screen.
The average soldier can throw the DAX-15 grenade 30 meters. Once activated it emits blue smoke in a radius around the blast with radius aproximately 10 meters high and 10-25 meters diameter depending on wind conditions. The smoke cloud lasts from one to three minutes, and screens unaided or unenhanced vision only.
