- Balefire -
- Unlike most cannons, the DC-2 works a bit more 'continuously' than alternatives. When the Balefire fires, not only does it release powerful shots, but it does so at such a rate that it could be considered more a 'flamethrower' than a convention turret. The result? Massive damage between ships, clearing entire areas of space with single volleys, and making no fly zones wherever the beams find themselves - as long as the beams find themselves there.
- Broadside -
- Also unlike most cannons, the DC-2 works by not turning itself. While the individual turrets can be turned within a 30 degree arc, they must be mounted on the sides of ships within blast doors due to the complicated nature of their cooling systems. This makes external deployment unviable, and also entirely useless. They are only for broad side volleys at close range for ships to decimate those that get too close - leave alone the extremely short (relative to space) range of the weapons.
- No-Fly Zone -
- Due to their lack of focus on accuracy versus power, the DC-2 has a tendency to fire upon friendly fighters flying between the ship firing and its target. This makes it either obvious a barrage is coming as ships begin to clear out of the lane, or for the more violent Sith who use it - a loss of person ships as well as the enemies. Its a lose lose, but a powerful one to deploy.
Following Maliphant's mysterious loyalty to the Lords of the Sith, the DC-2 was created to further the abilities of the Sith navy. With most Sith not being that tactical of mind, the DC-2 was designed to be less of a tactical weapon or nuanced piece of equipment, and more a broadside backup on each ship so one could 'get them closer to hit with their sword'. Where as most intend to board, the DC-2 serves as a means to break ship exteriors for exactly that - along with everything else inbetween.
Firing on par with ground based plasma flame throwers, the DC-2 gets its iconic nickname not from actually throwing 'flames' but because it shoots such wild disruptor shots at such a great speed that it is often considered a 'flame thrower' despite no flames actually being apart of the equation. The high volatility of the rounds make their range exceptionally short in naval terms, but make up for it with their superior damage output; able to cripple a wide variety of ships in only a short few seconds of a broadside, depending on the number of cannons in involved in such.
Overall, the DC-2 adds another layer for Sith of the LOTS to perform their duties to the Emperor; and in doing so, potentially ensuring their victory against whatever is before them. While the Worm Emperor has given praise to Maliphant for his design, it is those like Merridius Black that use it to its full effectiveness. Decimating the Worm's enemies with impunity, and crippling enemy ships with ease.
