BIOGRAPHY:
When growing up in the Undercity streets of Courascant you not only learn to survive, but you learn that there’s no other way to live anywhere else without surviving. Those sort of lessons were taught to the young Deborah Waller while living on the planet-city while it was still under Republic control.
Her parents worked in the cities power companies, helping to fix the generators that kept all the lights on and such. Didn’t pay as well as hoped but it was enough to get by. Meanwhile Deborah had to deal with life on the under streets. She had friends in gangs but never fell into any herself. She had, at the time, a sense of dignity that she wanted to uphold if it meant getting out of the unwanted underbelly of Courascant. That meant joining the Republic Army once she was old enough; though some of her friends like Gordy Vernard, who was a member of a gang known as the Star Striders, thought it was a silly idea.
Spending over a year in training Deborah had been taught in hand-to-hand combat and weaponry, making her way through the ranks in the hopes of going career in order to support her family and a future life. However that all fell apart when, after trying to celebrate with her friends, things had gotten highly out of hand. Too many drinks and enough flaring tensions and soon her whole squad had been fighting with people in the bar where they were partying. It had ended with someone being murdered and the entire squad suffering for the actions of one soldier who failed to step forward and admit to their crimes.
With a dishonorable discharge Deborah’s dreams were crushed because of one man, who she later found out which of her squad members was responsible. She’d beaten him within an inch of his life but, still thinking about honor, let him live. She returned home to her family and discovered some of the changes that happened around her town. Her father was dead from an accident at work and her mother was barely making ends meet. She looked to the one of the few easy routes to gain money, joining the Star Striders. When she went to them, however, she was surprised to see her friend Gordy Vernard was now in charge of the gang.
Looking to help an old friend he allowed her to join, Deborah taking what she could get if it meant helping her mother. During her time with them Deborah began to grow a little more popular among the gang members, finding ways to handle any disputes between them while also managing any and all operations they had more smoothly than before. Gordy began to hear word of some wanting her to lead which he didn’t take kindly to.
Then came the day when the Sith invaded Courascant. Deborah had been home when they attacks, her area of the Undercity wrecked due to a crashed starship. Deborah’s mother died in the chaos and she needed to get off planet while she still could. Running to the Star Striders for help she’d hoped to escape with them as they loaded up. However Gordy had pulled her to the side, tricking her into thinking that he planned to escape with only her and leave the others to die. Instead he’d pushed her off the landing platform to die. Deborah thankfully landed on one of the energy pipelines but a falling piece of debris had crushed her arm in the process. With all the pain accumulated Deborah had passed out and when she awoke again, she was in a medical shuttle.
It was revealed that she was found by an escaping medical team in the lower sections of Courascant before escaping. While telling of Courascant’s take over by the Sith Deborah was also given the shocking revelation of her right arm being replaced with a cybernetic one. Broken by this Deborah knew who to blame: Gordy. After long months of physical therapy and getting used to her new arm Deborah left to hunt down the Star Striders.
After months of searching Deborah found him and the remaining Striders who were trying to rebuild after losing much of Courascant. Her arrival on Nar Shaddar had surprised Gordy upon learning of her survival. Using her arm’s new strength Deborah had crushed the life out of him before claiming leadership over the Star Striders.
Now in control of the group Deborah knew they needed to look to other sources for the means to rebuild. She found it in the slowly rising crime organization known as the Red Ravens. While some of the members were reluctant to join with another group Deborah, now with a more hardened intent, had silenced anyone who questioned her. Now joined with the Ravens Deborah looks to her new calling as a criminal of the galaxy, becoming an iron fist for her want of taking what she deserves.
