Defense at the expense of offense…

It didn’t mater how many times she’d been asked, Corvus always found time to teach someone the third Form. Perhaps it was it was her preferred Form? Maybe it was because of her fondness for Master Kenobi? Or most likely because it was the ultimate expression of non-aggressive Jedi philosophy.

In truth? It was a combination of all three – although Obi-Wan was a serious factor.

So she checked her box of props for the lesson ahead – training sabers, stun blasters, remotes and even a blindfold – and awaited her student. She knew of him rather than knew him.

So she set her box of tricks down and removed her cloak, folding it neatly and placing it on one of the desks. She took a training saber from the wall and put her own sabers in their place for safe-keeping.

Then she closed her eyes momentarily and performed the third Form velocities – a series of moves learned many years ago – and repeated over and over, with ever increasing speed.

These Jedi were an interesting folk indeed. Azel looked at their faux swords with a bit of disdain. They were supposed to be supernatural monks, but they have high tech laser swords? Although Azel did tend to be a bit of a technophobe, he still admired what few Jedi he had met. Already, he was taking lessons from one. Some Lord, or, mentor, he couldn't remember what silly titles they thought up for themselves.

But, this was their turf, and Azel was determined to play by their rules. Maybe he'd learn a thing or two. I'm okay, he'd learn a thing a two. As he walked into the training room, Azel saw the Jedi Master doing, well, whatever it was exactly she was doing. "Er...Corvus, yeah...?"

Corvus was in two minds about the training when first approached. She taught Jedi that served the Republic without a moment’s thought but others? She was always reticent. But she was a Jedi and Azel was a Jedi, so she decided to press on and teach.

So she smiled as he entered the room. “Yes, Corvus – and you must be Azel.”

She finished the cycle and stopped. “Now, before I start, it’s worth you telling me what you know about the Form. That way it saves you listening to me ramble on about stuff you already know.”

Azel nodded at her as she greeted him, no showing much of a smile. He looked uncomfortable as he stood in the room, not knowing how he was expected to stand. Once again, his sheer lack of Jedi culture put him at a disadvantage. Thankfully, Corvus' question was one of the few he was prepared for. Azel was smart enough to not waste time one something he would hate.

"Ah, I suppose I know a bit. It's a combat style Jedi use with. 'Lightsabers.' I believe it mostly uses defense. Something about a barrier."

Corvus knew when someone loved the theory. Azel did not. So to trot out all she knew would simply switch him off. So she needed the lesson to get practical as soon as possible.

"The key to using the Force - even with the saber - is not to overthink. If you do, you will be in conflict with the Force. Trust in it. Allow it to flow through you. Especially with Soresu, and a more advanced variant I will show you later."

"A master of the Form, or even a experienced practitioner like myself can fend off multiple attackers, and not just those using blasters. If you can maintain your focus, you do not need to use much in the way of effort and so you can maintain this kind of defense for hours. I have even heard of some fighting for nearly a full day against multiple attackers at once."

"But enough talking, let me demonstrate. Come at me with whatever attacks you see fit."

Corvus stood there, her training saber now attached to her belt, but she'd indicated she was ready.
