The Defiant torpedo is a plasma warhead that uses shaped casings similar to that of a proton torpedo. This is housed in an ultraclean vacuum of a one point three six meter long casing. Where inside is a zero-point field reaction chamber. The Defiant relies on a rapid energy extraction from the zero point chamber. Plasma housed within the zero-point chamber then pushes out - reacting to the detonation as it occurs.
Much like a proton torpedo it features a sophisticated guiding system to track and hone in on targets. In addition, the Defiant-type torpedo has a small anti radiation webbing to keep it from reacting to various forms of radiation. Finally, the warhead that carries the plasma is made of armor-piercing materials meant to shred through most hull-types.
When fired the Defiant-type torpedoes are described as a light-blue hue that streaks toward its target. Piercing through the hull with armor-piercing shells, of course, the torpedo like most must first face off against shields and can be deflected with modern shielding. However, due to the nature of the torpedo if there is no deflector shield equipped on the target, the Defiant-type will simply continue on its path to detonation rather than being deflected away.
