Demons of the Night

Demons of the Night
Preface

The Wild Hunt is an ancient folk myth of the Nightsisters of Dathomir, recorded in Mother Talzin's manifesto, Wild Power. It was believed that every year, ethereal riders visible as dark figures with glowing eyes would come out of the spirit realm. Roaming the woods and shouting their hunting calls, they would abduct any who crossed their path. Talzin claim to have personally witnessed a Wild Hunt, stating that it was conjured by the Fanged God when the four moons of Dathomir were at their brightest and the snow had melted on the slopes of the Shattered Ridge.

Phoebus hired a skilled group of hunters and researchers to explore the animal life and fauna of Dathomir: her researchers claim to have caught an ethereal creature trapped within a Force cage, requesting for her presence a week ago. Stumped on the recent discovery, Phoebus decided to reach out to @[member='Darth Mephirium'], a well respected and known Sith famous for his great knowledge. Together they will discover the truth behind the Wild Hunt...

Chapter I.
Inside CSS Witchcraft, Orbit of Dathomir

Gethzerion was the founder and first leader of the Nightsisters of Dathomir. Writing the Book of Shadows in my possession, she was extremely talented in channeling the Force into spirit ichor, to the extent that she was able to use the Force without ritual chantings written by the Witches of Dathomir in their customs and traditions. She was so powerful in the Force that Emperor Palpatine was wary of her existence, stranding her on Dathomir with interdiction fields.

While Gethzerion had perished, her legacy was not lost as the Book of Shadows was passed down through generations of Nightsisters...
As the last letters were being typed into Phoebus's hololog, the CSS Witchcraft's sensor suite suddenly detected suddenly pinged with life as it detected another ship in range.

It was rare for anyone to take the time to reach out to him. Mephirium was a particularly busy man, but he was also rather hard to reach. Most gave up when they were stopped by the preliminary security chiefs. Even if the messages made it through those filters, it was quite unlikely that Cyril would get around to actually reading the messages at any reasonable speed. There was just too much to sift through.

Despite that, he'd managed to read the one that came from Phoebus. It was sheer chance that the message actually caught his attention. There was nothing particularly special about it, aside from its content relating to the ethereal rather than physical matters. The majority of inquests he received revolved around politics, resource management, and other things he had trouble giving a damn about.

This one was different.

He'd traced the source back to a woman with little to her record. There was nothing but a face to the name, and a birthplace that was estimated at best. Regardless, Mephirium chose to humor her.

His vessel was a nameless black arrow upon the backdrop of a colorful nebula. It came out of hyperspace at the minimum safe distance from Phoebus' own. A simple message was transmitted upon relation to realspace.

"I've arrived."

Seeing the transmission from Darth Mephirium, Phoebus paused for a split second as she looked at his unique-looking ship. Putting the sudden thoughts about the mechanical structure of the ship, she looked at the green ethereal form of Cynthia and gave her a questioning looking.
Cynthia simply shrugged and Phoebus nodded to her communications officer.

"Send the following response. Welcome Darth Mephirium to Dathomir. I've invited you to a particular specimen I wish to study, would you care to land at the coordinates (102,302)? Thank you and I will see you in person soon."

Phoebus's ship slowly began descending down onto the forests of Dathomir. In the middle of the forest, the ship began landing inside an oddly-shaped clearing.
