  • Description: Created from injured, nearly dead Padawans and altered by Magdalena's blood, they prowl the space ways hunting down Dark Side Users and purging its presence whenever found, or staging rescues of captured Jedi. They are especially feared for their utter relentlessness and seeming inability to feel pain, whether physical or spiritual. The motto of the Deputy is "FLEE, HERETIC." They are identified by dark clothing and sightless, blind eyes and semi-pale skin, giving some the mistaken impression they are zombies

  • Combat Function: Deputies are terrifying silent enforcers of Magdalena's will, often roaming alone in a Marauder-like mindset, constantly hunting for followers of the Dark Side, often striking from the shadows. They are supreme martial artists with superhuman physical traits and seem utterly tireless. They typically are pragmatists--though heavily armed and extensively trained, they are not above fighting dirty and will rapidly seek to use any practical means to turn a fight completely to their advantage. If they can one shot you, they will. If they can CHEAP shot you, they DEFINITELY will try to. Each deputy's approach is ultimately unique, but all share the trait of not hesitating to use an unfair advantage once located as they are often operating solo in the field. When around Magdalena, they serve as her bodyguards. They never speak except in extremely quiet, simple sentences often consisting of only two or three words, and then, rarely. Their sole focus is finding the next follower of the Dark Side to kill, and their lack of scruples in going about it causes them to be regarded as dangerous lone wolves in larger military units, who may have to rely on them as scouts. Their terse nature and being often a mystery to others makes them difficult to trust

Strengths:
  • Implacable: Deputies are infamous for being seemingly tireless and inexhaustible, able to fight and function at top condition long, LONG after other warriors would drop from exhaustion. This seemingly endless amount of physical energy allows them to fight at constant, maximum aggression at close quarters, not having to worry about fatigue toxins in the muscles building up. They possess Wookiee-like physical strength and their durability is incredible, able to withstand tremendous physical punishment, up to and including being beaten mercilessly with clubs of solid metal yet still fighting with maximum viciousness in the process. Much stronger, technically more skilled opponents have been beaten by simply being exhausted into submission. The only wounds, in fact that give them ANY pause are those inflicted by shotgun blasts and lightsabers...and in the latter case, even then, their flesh seems reinforced against lightsaber energy...it actually takes about half a dozen whacks to cut through a limb. Even if a fatal wound is dealt, they'll still typically have more than enough energy before dying to often take out their by that point likely absolutely desperate killer
  • Dreaded: Deputies were near universally feared by the low and mid level Sith of the Gulag Era, and even Master Level Sith who encountered them often grew to fear them also. Deputies are often immune to negotiation, and even hostage taking on a Sith's part doesn't seem to deter them. While they will try to save the Hostage, it will not be at the cost of allowing the Sith to escape. They will not allow the Sith to escape no matter who they threaten to kill or actually succeed in killing. This has made Sith with significant military resources in the past desperate enough that the mere rumor of a Deputy in the same area they were was enough to order artillery, air, or orbital strikes to try and kill them, because they KNOW hostages will not stop a Deputy. In the modern era, Deputies are as much fiercely hated by Sith for their relentless nature as they are feared by them. Rivalries that spring up between Deputies and Sith tend to typically be even more petty and spiteful on the Sith's part than the normal rivalries between dark and light adepts, simply because Deputies are completely unresponsive to the usual tactics Sith use to try and get under the skin of light side users. They are seemingly immune to physical and psychic torture methods no matter how severe and brutal the method employed. Sith particularly frustrated by all this have been known to just outright kill captured or defeated Deputies in a fit of rage, unwilling to deal any further with the constant threat from an opponent that will never relent as long as they drawn breath...only to find themselves stalked by multiple Deputies in retaliation afterwards. For a Sith/Dark Jedi/Jedi Hunter, being stalked by a Deputy is something akin to being actively pursued by a living nightmare.
  • Pragmatist: Deputies will use whatever method allows them to kill an opponent the easiest, whether at close range or afar. If they can kill you in your sleep, they will. If using the environment or errant military equipment will do the job, they'll use that. This ruthlessness has caught Sith and too many others off guard, and makes them particularly despised by opponents who think of themselves as honorable. The Honorable are often the first to die in battle against a Deputy, and the ones who are often targeted by the Deputy first.
  • Mage: Deputies command a wide range of practical Force powers to assist them. They are masters of Force Illusion, posing a potentially deadly threat even to others Highly skilled in Illusions and telepathy in the sense they can read minds (Curiously, they never try to talk using telepathy)
  • Smart: Deputies, despite their blunt instrument nature, are often highly intelligent in their approach. They don't take unnecessary risks, and often try to strike where and when their opponent is at their weakest physically and psychologically speaking.
  • Skilled: Deputies are exceptionally skilled in range, melee, and hand to hand combat
Weaknesses:
  • Lone Wolf: Their solitary nature and often inability to speak leads to them being mistrusted by their own ostensible allies. Their solo nature means they rarely travel in groups unless it's to kill a particularly powerful Sith who has killed one of their own or unless they are escorting Magdalena
  • Weak armor: They wear armor that does not interfere with their ability to channel the Force, but it's also armor that is easily penetrated
  • Savage: Deputies, despite their intelligence on a personal level, are rarely ever masterminds of wide ranging schemes. They are a front towards enemy type, and are not good at diplomacy, often preferring Brute Force as the answer to most problems in life, particularly if those problems are Sith
  • Reconditioned: The Conversion Process that made them rendered them loyal to Magdalena to a fault. Deputies rarely have a life outside of the purpose Magdalena gives them, spending their lives carrying out her orders. While not slaves, per se, due to Magdalena seeing them all as her 'children' and doing her best to provide for their needs and avoiding any form of cruelty towards them after essentially being scavenged into her service, they can and have defied Magdalena in the past. However, it usually requires extreme circumstances to bring this about. Deputies rarely recall their old lives, spending their existence in service to the Sorceress of Ossus, acting as her intermediaries. As a result, they rarely have what one could call 'Life Experience'. They don't feel emotion very strongly, and they have suffered personal setbacks in their missions due to the civilians around them finding their mindset utterly alien and occasionally being attacked by them in suspicion as a result. Jedi have sometimes tried to detain them also for acting too much the wild card in a given situation. While a Deputy would never fight to kill a Jedi, they will also decisively fight one to resist capture if possible, leading to further poor impressions down the road
  • Recruitment difficulty: Deputies are created from Padawans found severely injured and on the brink of certain death when they were altered. They are creations of opportunity, and it may be a while before Magdalena can find an injured Padawan injured enough to be worth altering
  • The eyes have it: The conversion process gives them a superhuman sense of hearing, smell, touch, and taste, but renders them physically blind without the constant need to see through the Force like Miraluka do. In Force Voids they lose their powers.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION

Deputies, nicknamed Zombie Jedi by their detractors and critics are incredibly feared warriors infamous for targeting Sith, Dark Jedi, and anybody else attacking the followers of the Light. Silent, Uncompromising, and seemingly incapable of feeling pain or even being tortured, Deputies often have to be killed the first time they are faced or they will keep coming until their target is dead. Created from injured, dying padawans on the battlefield who have no other means of rescue (And no other way to heal them.), Deputies spend their lives in service to the Sorceress, mentally reconditioned to want to constantly hunt and kill followers of the Dark Side. They often remember very little of their former lives due to the conversion process, which alters their neurology to the point it's extremely difficult for them to form a full sentence without great effort despite otherwise retaining all their mental facilities otherwise. They also do not feel emotions very strongly. Nathan Bloodscrawl was once a Deputy himself, altered to save his life after he was fatally wounded in the fall of his family's castle on Ession, and there were very special circumstances that allowed him to reverse many of her changes to his physical and psychological makeup, mainly in that he retained more memories than most of her converts. Magdalena has never stopped creating Deputies, their presence persisting into the modern era to the consternation of certain other light siders who have encountered them, completely off put by their relentless, silent nature.

Outside of their activities, they exhibit no real inclination to a personal life beyond a very spartan existence, unable to appreciate good food or drink, or even entertainment. All that matters is the mission. They are utterly consumed by their war against the darkness, and are often listless without a current, concrete objective, having been known to stand in place for days before what they view as a legitimate objective is presented to them. Their mind, while sane, is still completely alien and unknowable to most people's understanding. They simply do not perceive anything they do as unusual. They are 'nose-blind' to their own strange nature.

In the modern era, due to reconciling with his adopted Mother, Nathan has significantly upgraded the resources available to the common Deputy, taking from modern and pilfered House Io equipment. The Deputies are afforded the best accomodations possible by him when off duty, and Magdalena and Nathan now actively work to try and restore more of their original memories to someday release them from her service, or at least lesson the side effects of Conversion.
